I don't know if anyone has suggested this, Nepenthe, but just ply her with booze and measure her wrists when she passes out. EDIT: Not a bad idea, ManISO. I looked it up and a reasonable amount of alcohol is allegedly not supposed to inhibit the efficacy of antibiotics. Hmmm, just a *few* beers?

I don't know if it's feasible, but I enjoyed Dungeon Siege III. The only thing I will say, and this isn't to draw anyone's wrath, but it wasn't really like the first two games. Anyhow, I liked them all and I think DS3 was really under-rated. I actually liked it better than 2, but it's kind of a tie with 1. I dunno. My feelings kind of fluctuate.

I normally wouldn't be able to play so much, but I've got an excuse to get some real gaming done over the past few days and I've restarted Pillars of Eternity. I went and did some stuff out of town first and returned to do the temple of Eothas. I made a priest of Eothas this time and I have to say it rocks. I like this game better than I did the first time. It's not because I didn't like playing my mage. I think, in terms of the class, I liked it better than the priest. ...But then I was trying to figure out how I felt about the design and whether I was right to back it and all the arguments different backers had about decisions Obsidz had made. This time, I'm just playing a game to enjoy it and that's why it's even better than the first time. Plus, I think they've fixed a few minor things that bugged me before. Also, I'm starting to feel a little better physically and that always makes everything seem better at the same time.

Oh, sorry, a bit loopy. I've been having some dental problems. More like jaw problems, I think. Teeth and gums look fine, but there's something amiss with the ol' jawbone and it's a bitch to get any sleep right now. I'm on antibiotics, so I'm sure I just need to give it a few more days to improve. Still, it seems that GD's problems are worse. At least my insomnia will be solved when my health problems are fixed. Come to think of it, I've actually got it far better than a lot of the regulars here. TN's dad had a heart attack and I think Mal got laid off. Tough times for some of the Obsidz ol' skool. So, Mr. VC, what did *you* do today? Good news to brighten the mood?

Today I started a new game of Pillars of Eternity. I haven't played in a while, so there has been a number of changes. I still can't sleep and it's starting to show. I can tell (and others around me also) that I'm not thinking as clearly. I've used the vicadin sparingly, but it doesn't seem to matter. If I take it before bed, I still wake up a couple of hours later and can't sleep. It doesn't really dull the pain much either. Well, on the plus side, I'm quite apparently in no danger of becoming addicted to vicadin.

I say BG1 because it's the first in a long line of IE games. It broke the ground, which is how I see PoE. If the setting takes off, it can have a variety of takes on things such as sandbox, story-centered, more or less combat oriented, and exploring different regions. However, I'll take your point and recognize your rationale.

I haven't participated in the thread because I don't want to appear to take sides in all the troll accusations flying around, but the one thing that strikes me as being unreasonable is for folks to lump all of the IE together for comparisons. Now, I don't want to cite anyone by name, but I have to point out that there have been folks on both sides who've taken bites out of the same apple in this regard. For my part, I just can't see making Pillars of Eternity measure up (or down) in every way to every IE title. I also think that it's probably not unreasonable to compare PoE to the IE games generally, but the primary comparison should be to BG1. This is the first title and some things will be ironed out in subsequent releases. Some of those things ironed out will probably royally piss off folks who actually liked things the way they are. That's already happened. I, for example, don't like the idea of immunities. On the other hand, I just started a new run with the goal of working through White March, so I haven't faced immunities as of yet. I just try to play the game with as fresh a mind as possible without prejudging the way something will work without at least playing. I will say this, there are members (and that's plural on purpose) who really dug in and suggested a lot of things for the game. I respect all of these members, some of whom succeeded in their advocacy and some who didn't. However, I'm pretty happy with the things Obsidz decided to do. In a lot of cases, I think the things some folks suggested that didn't make it into the game would not have made the game substantially better during actual gameplay (as opposed to theory) but would have made the game substantially different. I know some folks have hit these topics already and I didn't quote them. That wasn't to deny them credit. Merely to avoid citing individuals in a highly charged thread. Also, I don't think I can post without at least exhorting folks to respect one another. Be gentle. Attack arguments, not persons. Be charitable in assessing opposing statements. No one has reported anything from this thread, which is great. It does seem to be a little testy and far too personal at times, but folks still seem to be making arguments and addressing each other's points, even if they're addressing each other's personalities a little too much. Hopefully, when you guys attack one another, you do it with a grin and the other person reads it in the same way. Anyhow, that's the end of my typical Cant sermon about playing nice. EDIT: what a difference one 'not' makes.

Sounds even more like miniatures than XCOM. Small band, kind of like Mordheim, though, not the large scale warhammer battles.

Why hatchets?
Cantousent replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
lol Hatchet Haters. I actually get what you're saying, Jerek. ...But I don't agree with the severity of the gimp. On most settings, and even what I've seen of PotD, you're not completely screwed by taking different weapons. You've just got a deflection boost with hatchet. I dunno, seems a bit weird to me also, but not all that big. On the other hand, I have my own little peeves and some of those are quite petty. For example, I hate that they used 'Might' to mean effectiveness for just about everything. physical, divine, arcane damage. Healing?! lol Doesn't seem to be a big deal for most folks, but it used to get under my skin a bit. Now I just think of it as one of those endearing oddities that gives a game its character. Anyhow, keep the debate alive! Better to debate about in-game hatchets than to whack each other with real ones. That's my take. <.< -
How about the new Pathfinder card game you guys are making right now? :Cant's angelic grin icon: I can see the way it would go now: GSG: "I'm going to school ya!" MD: "Get ready for some treatment!"

To be fair to lowest0ne, I don't think he's complaining about the language based on his delicate sensibilities. He's make more a design approach argument that profanity in the setting is jarring because it doesn't fit. At least I think that's it and you can correct me if I'm wrong, l0ne. Now, most of the time, I don't agree. Durance's dialogue isn't any more profanity ridden than I would expect from someone who is characterized by his vulgar, intemperate, and spiteful demeanor. There are a few times other NPCs use profanity where it just sounds kind of jarring. It hasn't bugged me, but I don't generally see profanity as mature. It can be realistic and I have my moments when I'll issue forth a stream of profanity (welcome to southern California driving), but I'm not more mature when I do so. ...But the fact is, most adults use at least some profanity. The question is when or where to use it in dialogue and I generally think the devs did a good job.

I don't know 'bout weed, as I've never taken any illicit drugs, but I love my booze. Sadly, I was put on antibiotics yesterday and can't drink. I'm also in some discomfort and unable to sleep more than 15 minutes at a time before the angry ol' infection wakes me, so I'm on vicadin. Now, to be straight about it, vicadin is in no danger of taking over my sweet spot for slow liver failure. Loves me some beer, wine, and spirits. ...And, if it weren't for the antibiotics, I think I would have been able to throw down some demon rum and get a little shut-eye. I've had only bits and pieces of sleep over the past 45 hours. However, I'm actually in good spirits. Getting a little goofy at the moment, and perhaps a wee bit punch drunk, but still counting myself lucky. Probably good to give my liver a break anyway. :Hearty grin icon:

Well, I do have to admit that some of you diehard fans really do elicit interest in Fallout 4. Because of the enthusiasm, I'm thinking I might actually purchase the game after the new year. It used to be that companies didn't care as much about sales after the first push, but with digital distribution, my gut tells me that's starting to change. ...And, if I like a game, I want my support for the title to do some practical good for the company. Anyhow, I've bought most of Bethesda's games and enjoyed them, so it's not like I'm worried about enjoying Fallout 4. It's more a question of time.

I finished Dragonfall. Truly Excellent! I felt compelled to start a new game of Pillars of Eternity with a godlike of the moonish variety who also happens to hold forth as a priest of Eothas. Didn't get far because, while I had a little time tonight, my health is undergoing a little bit of renovation right now and the antibiotics and vicadin still leave a wee bit o' edge on the process and I was finding it hard to concentrate on the game. Tomorrow, assuming I'm feeling better, I won't have time. ...But I'll be preaching to everyone in the lands about the goodness of Eothas soon enough, I'm sure.

Yeah, sometimes profanity bugs me and sometimes not. If it seems genuine, I like it. That can be for a character who's supposed to sound adolescent, a character who is damned angry and means it, or some other use of situational language to convey an ideas, tone, or demeanor. So, a movie about gangsta rappahs? Sure. Probably not my cup o' tea, but I can live with it. The drill instructor in Full Metal Jacket? Sure. ...But I think devs need to be careful not to waste or frivol the impact of profanity. Once it becomes completely common, then it ceases to do anything other than... and I hope you can forgive the term but I can't think of any other way to say it... ghettoize the dialogue.

I went ahead and approved the post for you, lowestOne, and I can sympathize. However, 'bitch' has found increasing acceptance in popular culture, including television. It's not even filtered in this forum. However, you are correct in that there is a forum language filter. That's because I believe Obsidz thinks of this forum as a resource for a larger and more inclusive community while the games are more creative and intended for somewhat more mature players. That's my guess. I just go where I'm told and stand around until I'm told to do something. :Cant's wry grin icon: However, keep advocating for your position. It's healthy and you never know when you might make headway towards your goal.

I enjoyed playing as Reinhardt also. I finished as him and then started as Katarina but real life stepped in and I forgot about it. ...But I like these horror games they play a lot. The ones with the winter lodge was cheesy enough to be campy but spooky enough to be creepy and [insert something] enough to be sexy but not too steamy. Okay Okay, I'm reaching on that one, but I like the ones that can be campy a bit. Watching the endless deaths of Mario was too cruel, but seeing angsty teens get the chop was more like dark humor. Oh, by the way, it's official, not only won't they give me the keys to this forum but they locked me out of the moderators' restroom too! Bastards! I wish I had enough power to corrupt. :Cant's grumbling icon:

I just finished a big project and now I'll have a little time this week to complete Dragonfall finally. It's such a great game, although it seems a little heavy handed with current day movement references to sexuality and the like. Not enough to put me off, just often enough to make me grin and roll my eyes. I mean, some people are straight also, right? lol ...But it's a great game and it definitely does lend it that European sort of self congratulatory cosmopolitanism. Got a kick out of the subtle slap at the US for using the atom bomb. Actually, I thought that was well done. Didn't agree with the implication about the US, but they did a good job with it. Unless it really tanks in what must be the last bit coming up, this is one I can see playing again.

I'm not going to engage in the discussion about France or the attacks there. I think I need to try my best not to get involved in that discussion. ...But I will say this to you, Qistina: I have lived in Asia. I lived there for 1.5 years. I lived on Guam for 3 years. I've been to foreign countries and I have gone out of my way to respect them. I have gone out of my way to respect their customs. You, personally, are not the enemy and anyone who attacks you on a personal level will be censured by the mod team. I can attest to that. ...But the problem I can see in the world is the inclination to take attacks on ideas as attacks on our persons. I even see that in the United Sates. Such a stance is not right nor just. If your ideas, values, and beliefs are viable, then nothing can destroy them. I see people in other countries, and increasingly in our country, attacking people as a way to suppress ideas. It might work in the short term, but it can't work in the long term. At least I pray it can't. I didn't volunteer to serve my country in order to pave the way for people to feel 'safe' from offensive ideas. I've been faced with offensive ideas my whole life and I defy anyone to point to an example where I wanted to prevent someone from speaking his or her mind in public. Sure, I don't think that every message board or tv show should be required to represent your ideas, but I've never called for those ideas to be repressed in the public arena. ...And if I ever have, I would have been wrong. Perikles, as described by Thucydides, tells us that all the world is a monument to dead men. We don't know their names. We don't know their nationality, background, lineage, or history. They are lost, unmourned, and unknown, but the ideas for which they fought is not lost. We may not honor their names, but we honor their beliefs. Let the battle of ideas take the place of oppression and all the world wins. Let oppression suppress ideas and all the world loses.

Thanks for the feedback, mkreku! What about this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=Samsung+Galaxy+Note+Pro+12.2%27%27+64GB+%28Wifi%29%2C+Black&N=-1&isNodeId=1 Or maybe this one: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Xperia-10-1-Inch-Factory-Unlocked/dp/B00YR1JHK2/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1447556586&sr=1-1&keywords=Sony+Xperia+Tab+Z4 I'll probably shop around a bit for price once I've determined what I want. I like the bigger screen and double the memory on the Samsung, but the Sony is lighter and *waterproof!* I mean, I like that idea quite a bit.

Niiice! I actually own Mordheim, although I haven't played it in a loooong time. I loved it, but scheduling to play a game sucks.

I'm really thinking hard about getting Mordheim. I loved the tabletop game. Small band turn based fighting. Huzzah!
