Both Gromnir and Krazikatt came to visit? Well, I'll be... I might not be interested in dating your former stripper, but if she can throw some planks around then I might have use for her yet! At any rate, hopefully you didn't refer to your female stripper as an it.

So much for "no more mature topics in D&D"
Cantousent replied to deganawida's topic in Computer and Console
Ahh, but that's not a matter of WotC trying to keep DnD clean. I've thought for some time that it had something to do with the license itself. I mean, it seems as if WotC used it to push around folks who held the license more than anything else. Of course, I know virtually nothing about such things, but it just doesn't make sense that their primary concern is image when they themselves publish material like this. ....And I wouldn't want to play in a game where there was "...nothing but drug-addled hookers toting bloodied machetes all over the place..." Gritty is fine, but grit for no reason other than to show how ugly you can make a campaign just seems stupid to me. -
Gorth, you nut! If I had a hamster named Boo, he could have patched the damned hole from the inside. That would be much better.

I'm rather fond of Yorkshire pudding. Good stuff, Maynard!

Aww, it was a mess from the very begining.

I could go for a good jalepeno burger. mmm MMMM MMMM

I hate my name. I've thought of changing it to "Ted" or "Boz" or some such. I guess I'll have to stick with Eldar. *shrug* It was good enough for Tolkien's elves, it more than good enough for me. I guess. Maybe a bit pretentious, I suppose.

No, I think Dega's right. It's definitely some sort of marsupial.

Wow, Krazikatt, it's great to hear from you. How are you and Mr. Krazikatt doing? The wife and I are quite well. The home improvement projects never end around here, although Mrs. Eldar does not hold with the actual labor. We have an agreement... she decides what she wants and I do it. Makes sense! There are some times, rare though they be, where I will say not only no but hell no. Most of the time, though, I'm just happy to have her telling me what to do. Now, if you think the fireplace was tough, let me tell you a story of a cat and a terrible desire to shred wall paper. Yes, I have stripped the entire house of wallpaper. Some of the rooms in my single story home have ceilings 12' high. What is a not only but hell no item? Wallpaper. I won't abide putting it in. I won't buy a house with wallpaper already installed. I had to strip the stuff and paint. Then, because I'm a fool, I was arguing with my wife over the huge amount of crap she has all over the house and I put my fist through the wall. There's a special place in hell for people who destroy their own homes in a fit of rage. I patched it, but it doesn't look very good. I'll have to redo the whole thing. :Eldar'sshakinghisheadwithaforlournlookicon:

Painting the trim is only bad if the wood looks good underneath. I'll tell you now, some trim is better painted. I do, however, hate all carpet. After taking up a variety of carpet, I have to say I hate it all. Nasty, disgusting stuff. Nothing you do to the top of you carpet can get the filth from underneath. If you have 3 cats, and we do, then you get three times the fun. Tear it out and put in flooring!

Hahaha! That Charles Dexter Ward part was comedy! You know, Cath, my wife, let me do whatever I wanted to do with my bathroom, so I painted the walls and trim silver, the ceiling a midnight blue, installed a midnight blue toilet seat, midnight blue towels (upon one is the morning star and the other the evening star), a beautiful, framed picture of a unicorn on one wall, a beautiful, framed picture of a wizard on the other wall, and a 9" tall 'knight' light. We get a lot of compliments on the bathroom. Who says you can't do "geek" tastefully?

I'm in California. We call it "slightly less warm summer-een-mas!" Actually, it's been raining like hell of late, but I've been playing KoTOR2 for the past couple of days. Great stuff, man!

Well, it's gotta be easier to strip wood than it is to strip brick. You just have to be careful with the stripper lest it get all over the place. Speaking of home improvement, I ordered a hot water heater from Sears. They quoted a price and charged me and then sent someone out to my house to install it. The guy comes in, looks around, and then writes up a bill for an additional $60. I ask, "what's this?" He says, "I have to do extra work to install it." I reply, "Why didn't they tell me you might have to charge me extra?" His response? He shrugs and says, "I don't know." Well, I call Sears and the lady says she's sorry but the person who took the order should have warned me that there might be an additional charge depending on what the contractor sees when he arrives at the job site. Meanwhile, the contractor is taking the water heater off of the truck and getting ready to bring it into my house. He says, "did you call?" "Yes," I respond. He starts to bring the thing up to my house and I tell him to stop. He looks at me like I'm crazy. With a silly look on his face, he asks me if I really don't want him to bring in the water heater. I tell him no, that I don't need his service. Man, was he angry. He simply left. Good choice on his part. Sears quickly refunded my money. It's like that thread somewhere hereabouts asking about how hostile we are. I wasn't angry. I was damned angry. He was going to be wearing that water heater as a permanent appendage if he had put up an argument. Well, I went and bought a water heater and installed the same thing myself. I went from... I dunno... something like $500 to buy it and have it installed to less than $200 and it's been working quite well for the last four years or so. Wasn't really his fault, though. The lady at Sears should have warned me that there might be additional charges when I first paid for it. Instead, I'm surprised when he arrives. Never a good thing. :Eldar'svoiceofadmonition: Remember, contractors can be good or bad, but they simply don't have as much at stake in your home as you do. If you can do it yourself, you're better off than if you're forced to use a contractor.

Hours of scrubbing the fireplace bricks with paint stripper and steel wool. It looks much better, but I have to wonder why folks would paint a fireplace. ...And we're not talking some ugly, cheep brickwork either. This fireplace is sweet and some jackanapes thought it best to paint it? Not only that, but I had bare cement in the family room until I finished the fireplace. Finally, both fireplace and floor finished, but the whole experience almost killed me. Rat bastards! ARGHHHHH Someone told me once that owning a home is like building a cathedral... it's never finished. How right that was.

Hey, I think the gold box SSI games belong in the classics column. I'm buying both NWN2 and Dragon Age, although I'll wait for some word on both before purchase. I'm playing KoTOR2 right now. I haven't seen anything that's caused me any real irritation so far. I think there are a couple of really shining moments, including the prologue. First of all, the player can skip the prologue, which is quite nice for a lot of folks. The prologue itself is quite well done at any rate. The whole package is a lot darker than KoTOR, which isn't a surprise to me. I have to agree that KoTOR2 does have more of an expansion feel than a true sequel, but I'm quite happy to have it. I'm looking to see what happens with NWN2. As I understand it, KoTOR2 has done well, but I don't know that it has established Obsidian as a premier developer. What I do know is that, after a week of hard manual labor, it's quite good to sit down to a game of KoTOR2, but NWN2 will have to do more to make me happy. Giving me more of the same with some improvements might work for KoTOR. For NWN, I demand some substantial improvments to the single player game.

taks, you show-off! We have a couple of sweet systems here, also. Nothing so cutting edge, but enough to play anything I play without problem.

I thought the first battle in Alexander was quite well done.

Gauntlet Name Revealed: Gauntlet Seven Sorrows
Cantousent replied to funcroc's topic in Computer and Console
Quest for the dirt states.... I love it. I thought that was what Fallout 3 was supposed to be before they decided to put it in Morrowind. -
I have to admit, that post made me laugh. I'm sorry the game sucked so bad for you, but I appreciate your candid post. Even more, I appreciate getting to hear about your experiences. You've really convinced me when it comes to FF XI. I'm not planning on doing the MMORPG after I finish the last story arc in CoH. If I do, I'll be sure to give FFXI wide berth.

Oh, you just wanted to oogle Brad Pitt's bod.

We live in a capitalist system. Companies exist to make profit. I like it that way. That works both ways, though. If a company charages too much money, then they will see a decilne in demand. Some companies will provide games at a standard $50-60 price and then we'll be happy. ...But you can't begrudge a company for making money.

How can a movie based on the Iliad be historically inaccurate, you doofus?!?! I'm not too demanding of films when it comes to accuracy. After all, it creates both interest in the field as well as a need for classicists. I like that! Okay, on Alexander, here're my two big beefs: 1) Monologues without end. Shut up, Ptolemy, we get the idea. Alexander is a deranged visionary. Gothca. We understand. No need to start out the film with a four hour monologue. 2) The Indian battle. You know, a good battle scene can save a bad film. This could have worked well. Instead, Stone puts some freaky filter on his camera and the blood looks like mustard and the leaves look pink. ugh. Give me a break. Most of the other stuff doesn't bother me, even Alexander's over the top insanity. We can't know Alexander's frame of mind at the end of the Indian campaign. Who is our source for Alexander anyhow? Arian, I think? This late antiquity stuff gets away from me sometimes, but I think he had access to Ptolemy, which would explain Ptolemy's central roel in the film. I dunno, I think Stone did a terrible job.

For what reason are you creating these images? You said something about a game in one of your posts. I'm curious. As far as the quality, I simply don't have the experience to be critical in a technical sense. However, I agree with you in that the models would probably suffice for most games. The question is, how hard is it to model movement and such? At any rate, I'm always impressed by folks who have the drive to create stuff like this... and I never knew Oerwinde was such the modler!

I suppose that practice doesn't hurt. Whatever you learned in making the first one is going to make you better in the long run.

My favorite so far is Master Jedi's butterfly. I think your would run second, Rosbjerg. I like the 'feel' of it, I suppose. The fact that I don't understand the writing makes it... I dunno... mysterious.
