  1. so-called gimmick systems has always been utilized in football. as a matter o' fact, the service academies at the collegiate level still run the triple-option in part 'cause so few o' their opponents will be able to devote more than one week o' practice in preparation o' facing the triple-option. am suspecting the most significant factor limiting the prospects o' kaepernick being signed (beyond his woeful accuracy and poor decision making skills) is not bigoted owners, but shortsighted players. the cba is specific tailored to favor veteran players over younger players. yeah, fixed/capped rookie contracts is an obvious veteran advantage, but so too is reduced practice hours. as much as the reduced practices were touted as a health conscious appeal (injury totals and retirement ages for the last couple seasons don't support such a notion) reduced practice times were also implemented to favor vets as such limits almost halved the on-field time in which new players were afforded an opportunity to learn the intricacies o' complex nfl systems. even vets from other teams would have a much harder time unseating an established veteran presence if the new guy only had 1⁄2 as many opportunities to show improvement over an established player. unfortunate for kaepernick, 1⁄2 practice time for coaches and teams means few nfl franchises is gonna implement run-option for the possibility o' a backup qb getting a few snaps or even a few starts. to be effective, kaepernick needs be in a run-option kinda system. is no longer efficient for a team to implement a unique package for a backup qb. HA! Good Fun! ps the triple-option also goes a long way in negating an opponent's size advantage in the trenches. to defend triple-option requires good lateral movement in addition to ironclad discipline.
  2. similar experience. back in the late 80s we were kinda shocked to realize we enjoyed a couple king short stories, and so a friend loaned us the gunslinger. couldn't get past the first 60 pages after multiple attempts. never finished a king novel, but am thinking a few o' his short stories is actual underrated by the new yorker crowd. HA! Good Fun!
  3. what the heck is wrong with his arm? is it attached? is doing the same thing theisman's leg did when lt hit him in 85. gruesome injury warning: HA! Good Fun!
  4. nice maps. if dirt and rocks could vote, then perhaps trump woulda' managed to win the popular vote. unfortunately, more o' the people in the US live in urban areas than in the desert south o' salt lake city, or in the appalachians or the rockies... or michigan . go figure. watched ozark and learned hillbilly is a pejorative for redneck. who knew? HA! Good Fun!
  5. biggest obstacle for kaepernick as a starter is nobody in the league runs the read-option anymore. chip kelly were the last holdout nfl coach running a variant read-option system. read-option is what harbaugh used to maximize kaepernick's talents. is also what the broncos ran with tebow. kaepernick just don't... fit. even so, is a bit perplexing to look at all the 2nd and 3rd string qbs on nfl rosters and not see kaepernick as an improvement for some team. he shouldn't be a starter. if he demands starter money, then such would explain the disconnect. however, if kaepernick is willing to be a backup, then we have a hard time coming up with a football rationale for his absence from any nfl roster. too much physical talent and too much potential to give you an extra win or two when number the number 1qb goes down with an injury. HA! Good Fun!
  6. I do not agree. Nobody really knows it because nobody really watched much of the 49ers last year, but Kaepernick performed pretty well in a bad situation. He's been growing as a player, but the general fanbase hasn't noticed much. He's a legit starter in the NFL. Probably an above-average one. disagree. kaepernick is a significant below-average qb with above average athleticism. his accuracy is nowhere near starter levels. kaepernick did well in one particular system with one particular coach. kaepernick has proven he is incapable o' grasping the intricacies o' complex nfl offenses and he has never learned how to throw the ball with touch when necessary. kaepernick is the proverbial coach killer. 'cause o' his athleticism and arm strength, he will succeed on occasion in spite o' bad decision making and poor accuracy-- he is a less polished version o' jay cutler. he is a tim tebow, without the in-your-face christianity. tim tebow ain't playing football either. even so, am thinking kaepernick has value as a third-string guy. he is not the player you want to build a team 'round, but his physical ability is unquestionable and particular for a defense likely prepared for qb1 or qb 2, kaepernick presents unique challenges... as a backup. from a football standpoint, we can't see kaepernick as a starter anywhere in the league. we don't even see kaepernick as a great backup option, but is not a good football reason he ain't been signed yet as most teams carry 3 qbs. HA! Good Fun! ps is a bit dated, but kaepernick skills and mental preparations ain't improved since the following: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fancy-stats/wp/2015/11/03/colin-kaepernick-doesnt-deserve-a-second-chance-as-an-nfl-starter/?utm_term=.5ba1294d7d9a he is a round peg for square-hole qb opportunities. he ain't a starter. he ain't the qb o' the future. he ain't the ideal mentor for the franchise qb o' the future. he is an athletically gifted backup for a team who wants to win now rather than take a risk on young/cheap talent.
  7. for ben? hmmm. now if only we could find such performed by teletubbies or chipmunks, it would be spot-on ben anthem. HA! Good Fun!
  8. this is the reason we got the Constitution and Bill of Rights n' such. democracy is a weak protection 'gainst the violation o' liberty. the mob is petty and vengeful and often stoopid. in their wisdom, the founding fathers recognized the need for protection from democracy. converse, only a gibbering lunatic or bootless hermit would wanna live in a civilization wherein liberty is absolute. after all, when push comes to shove, most people only care about Vol (or any other random person) when it is convenient. HA! Good Fun!
  9. Don't leave home without them. If someone want's to "opt out" then let them. But if they want their kids to attend public schools, etc. then roll up their sleeve. Look, there is no bigger champion of liberty here than me but even I will tell you it isn't and can't be absolute as long as you're planning on living around the other humans. One of the little sacrifices you have to be expected to make is to not spread infectious diseases that can wipe out entire populations. If the thing you are doing is likely to harm only you, not wearing a seatbelt for example, then leave them to their folly. But if you want to go "off the grid" and live on a mountain somewhere and make your own whiskey and dress in goatskins then ok, we can dispense with the measles vaccine. how do you differentiate social costs o' the vaccinations from those o' failure to wear seatbelts? your fellow americans, through democratic elected representatives, has recognized just how expensive it is to allow numbnutz drivers to use motor vehicles sans safetybelts. is costs to have emergency medical people to rush out and try and scrape you off pavement or separate you from a tree. is emergency room costs, which are exorbitant. is costs for long term care and/or support for your highly likely permanent disabilities. there is costs. even if you thinks such costs don't merit Government interference, american adherence to principles o' democracy makes it perfect legal and reasonable for your neighbors to object to and sanction dumb and/or costly behavior by fellow citizens. force you to wear seatbelts is indeed The Government demanding you to suppress liberty. is a representative democracy, so the Government is your neighbors, not some kinda monolithic freedom suppressing machine. you wanna live in America? fine, then you gotta live by certain rules your fellow americans 'gree 'pon. sure, the Constitution sets aside particular freedoms which is believed too important to leave to the whim o' democracy, but the rest is fair game. similar, gd cannot drive a car which produces too much pollution. why? 'cause the costs to your fellow americans has been deemed too expensive and as long as your fellow americans got a rational basis for enacting a prohibition on excessive polluting cars, you will not be allowed to drive an excessive polluting car. is basic social contract suff, no? vaccinations, seat belts, smoking in restaurants, dog waste removal, whatever. if The People agree your behavior has too great a cost, you may be prohibited from enjoying such a behavior... with the exception o' Constitutional protections. *shrug* democracy isn't 'bout liberty and peace and enlightened western culture. democracy, the Government, the People, is a community's necessary collective will to limit your liberties. democracy is opposite o' liberty. seatbelts? safety belts? am not seeing such mentioned in the Constitution, direct or indirect. religious freedom claim? due process claim? equal protection? sure, the fed powers is limited, but state and local can, and do, have the power to limit all kinda socially costly behaviors. thank goodness. you not like a particular prohibition? go out and get the law creating the prohibition changed. is how democracy works. honestly. libertarians can be as silly as the far left and alt right folks. is kinda reassuring actually. nobody gots a monopoly on good sense. vaccinations... am not gonna go into vaccinations save for two observations: 1) there is constitutional issues regarding compulsory medical treatments, so is actual more complex than seatbelts in cars, and 2) people who claim a reasonable basis for forgoing the vaccination o' their children is dumber than a bag full o' rocks. HA! Good Fun! You know... I don't recall mentioning the constitution, or democracy, or anything like that in any post on this subject. That's probably because we discussing general philosophy of interference rather than who can specifically keep you from doing what. And one of the things you hit on: the reason we have so much stupidity is because the costs of stupidity are so seldom borne by the stupid. But anyway. For neigh on 14 years now I've been coming to this board (and others) arguing a philosophical viewpoint. I doubt I've made many converts, which was never the intention anyway, but I daresay I've conceived more than a few people to at least think about things from a different perspective. My target audience here (and elsewhere) is not legislators, it's citizens. Who go and vote. And there was the added benefit of enjoyable conversations and spirited discussions along the way. Just sayin. you not mentioning hardly precludes Gromnir identifying the process and rationale behind such prohibitions. vaccinations= good. seat belts = bad. government shouldn't mess with gd seatbelts. we responded by noting who The Government is, and why seat belts and vaccinations got similar rationale for legitimized prohibition by The Government. for many folks, liberty and democracy is wrapped up in the same flag as if the two is essential qualities o' some larger whole. nonsense. democracy is a process by which liberties is limited or removed. can't reasonable discuss american liberty w/o observing impact and value o' democracy. oh, and the stoopid can rare afford to fully pay for their stoopidity. bob's stoopidity leads to a measles outbreak and chances are he will be unable to pay for all costs involved. wendy gets in a car accident and becomes permanent disabled and chances are wendy ain't gonna be able to pay even a fraction o' the costs involved. is why we speak o' social costs as 'posed to personal. your neighbors, the government, gets tired o' paying for stoopidity and decides there needs be a prohibition on such behavior. am personal 'gainst the federal government becoming so involved in prohibiting stoopid behavior. ideally, such restrictions o' liberty is 'posed to occur at a level o' democracy much closer to the individual whose liberty is being limited. local and state is the folks who should be the enforcers o' prohibitions and the guardians o' liberties. gd should have a reasonable chance to personal fight legislations and ordinances with which he do not agree. one man can make a difference at local levels. sadly, that proverbial ship sailed a long time ago. regardless, gd mentioned what the "government" could and should do 'bout his perceived liberties. failure by Gromnir to mention democracy, the people and the constitution in a reply to such a post woulda' been... stoopid. HA! Good Fun!
  10. looks kinda intriguing, and sounds good too. wouldn't mind if poe2 went for a brian mccreary inspired soundtrack. HA! Good Fun!
  11. am kinda all over the map this eve. aloo chaat, baba ganoush (perhaps a bit heavy on the garlic), and a small greek salad. add pita bread and a few fresh vegetables cut for easy dipping. real reason for the baba ganoush is 'cause somebody asked us what we were making for dinner and we said "baba ganoush" for no other reason than we believe baba ganoush sounds inherent funny. *shrug* have a couple eggplants we bought yesterday, so it all works out for us. HA! Good Fun!

  13. just sayin' HA! Good Fun!
  14. true, but not necessarily for the correct reason. am getting the humor o' gifted response, but am certain the irs would be shocked to realize paizo is a billion dollar publisher. got ~50 employees at a single location in washington. generate a bit better than $10 million a year. so unless their office happens to be resting on the richest unobtanium deposit within 200 klicks in any direction, am not seeing how they is a billion dollar publisher. HA! Good Fun!
  15. along similar lines http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/ex-nasa-engineer-builds-worlds-largest-super-soaker-180964056/ HA! Good Fun!
  16. interrupts have always been "in," but they were almost pointless in poe1 as an interrupt often causes little more than an imperceptible delay o' a foe's action. am glad poe2 interrupts has been a feature o' emphasis for the developers, but am also waiting for the beta 'fore we congratulate obsidian. doesn't take much imagination to foresee players creating builds which exploit interrupts resulting in effective stunlocking o' any and all enemies with other than instantaneous activations o' abilities. have personal been relative quiet during this portion o' poe2 development 'cause our input is least important at this time. developers had all kinda internal and external dialogues 'bout poe2 development months and even years removed. nothing we say at this moment is gonna change implementation. community input at this time is little more than white noise to the developers. however, once the beta goes live, am hopeful the community is offered a real chance to break the game. history shows us the playtesters is never complete up to the task o' finding game mechanic exploits, and interrupts is simple one o' many features which has the potential to be exploited. better to fix the game in late 2017 than mid 2018, no? obsidian were much responsive to beta respondents o' poe. am hopeful obsidian is similar receptive to poe2 beta feedback. am pleading for a more expansive look at mechanics to break in later 2017. HA! Good Fun!
  17. been too long. could be daily updates, but have been too numbed by the new normal. in any event, alternative math is getting trump into trouble with the cbo... and yellen offered a mild rebuke as well. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/congressional-budget-office-casts-doubt-on-trump-spending-plan/ar-BBEmw6w?li=AA5a8k&ocid=spartanntp https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-07-13/yellen-lauds-trump-s-3-growth-goal-cast-doubt-it-s-achievable btw, trump's off-the-record comments 'bout his wall, which angered him 'cause such comments weren't reported, were likely best left off-the record. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-07-13/trump-s-plan-for-his-border-wall-gets-shorter-and-see-through “It could be a steel wall with openings, but you have to have openings because you have to see what’s on the other side of the wall,” Trump said. “As horrible as it sounds, when they throw the large sacks of drugs over, and if you have people on the other side of the wall, you don’t see them -- they hit you on the head with 60 pounds of stuff? It’s over.” ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_Kh7nLplWo HA! Good Fun!
  18. am aware some people see numbers as colors. synesthesia? am not knowing much 'bout the "condition." in any event, one s'poses is possible to see letters as colors as well, and regardless, letters may be expressed as numbers, so the question is not the kinda cheshire cat query gifted might have expected. HA! Good Fun!
  19. Have you BEEN to california? It's either overpriced garbage or seasonal overcrowding, nothing in between. *insert arguably gratuitous eye-roll* summer in california has two major drawbacks: 1) gas prices 2) heat gas prices is gonna be high everywhere, but while heat is less o' a factor for those at the coast or the mountains or the far north end o' the state, many o' your possible destinations will nevertheless include unpleasant ambient temperatures. am not a fan o' CA summer heat. https://www.nps.gov/state/ca/index.htm such destinations is cheap. can't express how much we love both the idea and the experience o' our national parks. not including national parks, you got a state with a ridiculous 'mount o' coastline, a significant % which is free accessible. live your point break fantasy... sans the bank robberies. am understanding there is many activities other than surfing which is popular 'mongst folks, but such seems alien to Gromnir. regardless, is much frequent free ocean to be enjoyed during the summer. am recalling having posted 'bout sierra buttes, our favorite mountain destination. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/92618-what-you-did-today/?p=1918613 gonna take but a little effort to find equal fantastic and underutilized CA mountain locales. but s'pose you are an unathletic lump o' human flesh who don't like any kinda activity which might make you need sweat. no biking, hiking, surfing or even fishing. am suggesting a cheap gym membership, but if such is not what you were looking for, then just 'bout every mid-sized municipality is gonna have some kinda summer concert/movie series which will be free and/or cheap. if your town is still recovering from the economic downturn and has done away with such free entertainments, then chances are the locale community college or University has similar options which will be free to students, but cheap for ordinary adults with jobs and families and lives. high end eateries is expensive in CA, but every real city has at least a couple in-N-outs. in-N-out is pretty darn cheap. 'course every college town is also gonna have food services which need be cheap enough to satisfy often destitute students. some o' our favorite burrito and breakfast eateries is college dives. still got fond memories o' now closed egghead in isla vista. zachary's weren't our ideal chicago pizza, but it were, at the time, not too expensive and it were ~ 2miles from campus. etc. am knowing calax were being calax, and most people don't take such calaxian lugubriousness serious, but there is inexplicable CA contempt at these boards which we find inexplicable. sure, am not a big fan o' patchouli, birkenstocks and angry liberals. http://www.cc.com/video-clips/9fgyc6/the-daily-show-with-jon-stewart-marines-in-berkeley we don't like summer heat and dryness. we don't like housing and gasoline costs. *shrug* at the moment, Gromnir is particular enjoying the overabundance o' local fresh produce. is one o' the unspoken advantages o' being in the most active farming locations in the world. get a 2lb bag o' the most beautiful snow peas you ever seen for $2.50... or pick self for $.30 a pound? by the end o' the month am gonna be seeing the country's best tomatoes. watermelon, cantaloupe, corn, and all manner o' peppers is also grown local and is difficult to find better anywhere else. is all manner o' other produce, but the aforementioned is simple the stuff we ain't seen superior anywhere else in the country. kinda the ending o' the best asparagus season, but is also a local favorite... and cheap. we get bacon from local farmers. real bacon. cheap. get our eggs from local sources. cheap. am now getting fish from a local fish farm. less cheap, but still cheaper than even supermarket prices. with all the cheap food, you need fight to get us outta the kitchen. well, such would be the case if it weren't so damnably hot. housing prices is ridiculous expensive, but is not specific an issue when one is considering summer activities, eh? sure, price o' housing pushes everything else northward, but if you can't find fun things to do in CA w/o spending big money, then you is not trying or you is simple a dull person. can't blame such failings on CA. HA! Good Fun!
  20. keep in mind thoreau did not see injustice in the government incarcerating him for refusing to pay taxes. thoreau understood there were consequences to his actions. is gonna be few folks with the kinda commitment and resolve displayed by mr. thoreau. HA! Good Fun!
  21. That was out in the open and they had similar platforms. It's not collusion if it's out in the open? ... uh. ... why bother? HA! Good Fun!
  22. ~$897k with a bit over an hour remaining. (edit: finished at $909k) can't help but wonder what a kingmaker crowdfunded project woulda' achieved if it were obsidian developing it instead o' owlbear. the kingmaker pnp adventure path were kinda an open-world sandbox, and it were making considerable use o' non-combat solutions as well as unique combat encounters. 'course having already played kingmaker, Gromnir knows kingmaker... which kinda sux. the big reveals ain't big reveals to those o' us who already played kingmaker, and we cannot unknow how to deal with more than a few intriguing events. *shrug* for every kingmaker development positive, we can think o' a couple negatives, so am continuing ambivalent. if feedback from the beta is positive, we will purchase. would be nice to play a pathfinder inquisitor in a crpg, but only if the crpg is decent. HA! Good Fun! ps if kingmaker is successful, am thinking is a foregone conclusion future pathfinder adventure paths will be developed. am a little disappointed the kickstarter couldn't generate more money, but there is nevertheless still a chance kingmaker will be the start o' more/better pathfinder crpgs. hell's rebels and mummy's mask are solid adventure paths and while we would prefer new material, we could see our self being enthusiastic 'bout crpg developments o' those pnp products... depending 'pon what we see from the initial kingmaker offering.
  23. wasn't that st. elmo's fire? a different schumacher film, so your confusion is understandable. am not a schumacher fan. how do you screw up dicaprio and deniro performances? screw up dicaprio and deniro in the same film? we always kinda thought o' flatliners as schumacher's attempt at less campy horror following lost boys, though we kinda liked lost boys for what it was. didn't hate falling down. most horror films miss the mark with Gromnir. goal o' most such films seems to be to find interesting/bizarre new ways to kill pretty people. am not gonna try and convince folks o' the inhumanity o' killing pretty people onscreen, but am also clear not the target audience for such faire. will wait for the next shining. HA! Good Fun!
  24. and now, a brief look at death. enjoy. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/mortality-rates-united-states/ HA! Good Fun!
  25. That sounds a bit like Neverwhere (1996). I wouldn't mind a setting based on some of Neil Gaiman's modern fantasy works. fixed feargus urquhart has mentioned the neverwhere setting as one which interests him. HA! Good Fun!
