What Are Your Fears For KOTOR 2?
Lacan replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I've never found a gaming philosophy the least bit impressive. It's a game, after all. I thought the core plot, of the last guy being a part of you, and the pc creating his own conflicts by his previous actions, was a pretty good. Add to that how much I had been anticipating Ravel asking me that question, it was pretty good imo. -
Its official 8.5 Graphics= Lazy Dev

True. The co-op aspect is mainly what hooked me. But as far as shooters go, I felt that the storyline was bearable and that the designers put some effort to making it decent. -

Halo 1 had a pretty good storyline, relatively. Halo 2's sucked hard, and everyone knows it. -

Amen. Resource allocation will be completely different between the two genres. (And if anyone doesn't believe me, play the 10 hour single player camgaign for Halo 2) -
What Are Your Fears For KOTOR 2?
Lacan replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
My only concern/greatest fear was with the storyline. Having Chris Avellone as the lead designer made, in my mind, a far better plot than Kotor 1 likely. I am discouraged to hear that this reviewer found KOTOR 2's plot less than KOTOR 1. -

"KOTOR II's overall story is not quite as strong as the sweeping epic of the original, but its pieces are more compelling... The story starts strong but stumbles across the finish line." The framerate issues didn't surprise me, you're trying to run this thing on a 500 MgHz processor. I was surprised by these comments. I really was expecting/hoping for a great storyline with a gigantic twist (making the KOTOR 1 twist seem paltry by comparison). PS:T's twist(s) did this, and I expected an encore. I guess I just have to accept that those days aren't coming back. -
Never been terribly impressed with Hilary. She was, let's say, overly enamored with the plot of the the original KOTOR (she apparently didn't see it coming). I'm trying to reconcile the lukewarm comments about the plot in this review with the OXM comments. edit: I expected this after the massive disappointment that Halo 2 was, and it skated through with a 9.8. Expect the same treatment from Gamespot.

A guy at the IGN message board has the game.
Lacan replied to TheAco's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I had that idea. I just wanted to verify that someone had the game early (at least on Monday). That would be a difficult screenshot to fake. -
Chris Avellone worked on Torment. That's enough for me (until he proves otherwise).

When will the review come out today on ign?
Lacan replied to mace mandu's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I basically bought my Xbox to continue Shenmue and to play KOTOR. I found a few other games that were interesting, but I mostly bought it because Bioware allied themselves with Xbox. -

Aren't interested in Jade Empire? (IIRC, it's Xbox only) -
Designer Rambling: PC Causality/Triggered Events
Lacan replied to Chris Avellone's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Nice. Big improvement over the "Hey, I'm walking into the cantina for the fourth time and getting my turbo-finger ready to shut up Carth's whining" situation. Nice job, makes it more interesting on successive games. -

Hehe, you could speed that up to Monday by getting an Xbox... [+2 dark side points for me ] -

I know. I've been checking constantly on this board for this review, and they seemed so damn slow. My impatience > me. -
I can see your point, and agree that to a certain extent society is responsible for its own mistakes. But, in my mind, humans are so flawed that they cannot even be expected to do something they know is logical. Reason can be so twisted in a human being's mind with seemingly the simplest of efforts. I once saw a person (on a CNN show) crying after her apparent exorcism by some priest/con-artist. A segment of our society's minds are so malleable that anything can be believed. edit: I must commend the mods for being so open-minded and not locking this immediately. Thanx.

Let's throw Iraq aside. Whether you agree with the war or not, there is one fact that came out of this. We were led to believe there was WMD in Iraq before we invaded, and now it turns out that is not the case, and the evidence was fabricated. Now hold your horses, because this is an important point: A large group of "educated" people in a wealthy country believed that there were WMD in Iraq, only to find out that there is not. That is the very definition of ignorance, and proves that ignorance still exists in large quantities.
-
*Restraining self* The era of ignorance is NOT over. Do you realize how many times in history a population believed that previous societies were ignorant, and the current society had solved ignorance? That was the rationale behind colonialism.
-
1000 years ago, but not today???!!! So Bush saying that god was advising him to invade Iraq is not? I didn't say I blame religion as a malevolent, self-conscious force, but it is a tool nontheless. You cannot blame cigarettes either, but they facilitate the problem.
-
I do believe you can blame religion, to a great extent. Religion's prime goal (other than keeping the priest caste in power, in ancient times) is to supplant empathy with religious dictates. It mobilizes the masses to commit actions they would normally not commit because they know it is wrong.

It clearly states in Leviticus that you may not consummate marriage with his sister (21:17). I would also point out that if the Bible is true, God proclaimed in Leviticus that "If a man lies with a man as with a woman, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." God Himself said this to his people. I guess if the Bible is true, you better go out and enforce this law by killing homosexuals.
-
Even if Adam and Eve had daughters (which as Hades points out is not true) incest is forbidden (in Leviticus, iirc).
-
The Bible is most certainly false. Check out Genesis 4:17. The son of the first man, Cain, leaves to create a son, Enoch.... with his wife. How can he find a wife somewhere else when he is the descendent of the first man?

That religion has intrigued me, and I understand little about it. However, after reading ancient Chinese works like Monkey, I am struck by how Buddhism is slightly cruel. People seem to accept their lot in life because they believe that it is due to something (in the case of the misfortunate) horrible they did in a previous life, thus putting the fault of their own misfortune on themselves. And, of course, the patricians did something good and should be more revered because they were virtuous in a previous life. I may be mistaken, but it seems kind of cruel to me.
-
I saw someone else write "we don't understand lots of stuff, so becuase there are mysteries, god must exist." Again, a logical fallacy. Because an animal doesn't understand psychology, does that mean god exists for him? No, it simply means he doesn't have the intellect to understand, or the knowledge to build an understanding upon. It's Biblical ignorance.

Of course, because as I just stated, nothing's existence can be disproved. Leprechauns don't exist, right? No, they do. You just can't see them. They're invisible and can become insubstantial at will using super-leprechaun magic, so you'll never actually see... therefor they can exist... in fact, using Dr. Zug's prophecies, it's likely they do exist... disbeliever... heretic.... Same old line of reasoning.
