Praise the Obsidian Lords
Excalibur_2102 replied to anom9n's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Only thing I think a lot of people will disagree with you on is the music. A lot of people seem to like it, including myself. However lack of music could be an issue with me.. Like you say, no boss music etc. -
Thanks for your support! I don't know if a cd is still possible. We had a limited edition one that backers could add on, but I don't think we're still making them anymore. Speaking of which, do you know when those of us with the add on will get CDs? Will they come with the Collectors Edition? Im in europe so I still dont have mine yet

come on.. maybe a 1 for DA2 ... But yeah I just checked and it was 7, so Im slightly happier now. I thought it was the same score, when his PoE was overall a much more positive review than his DA2 one. Which wouldnt have been right. Edit: Also, ive noticed that PoE has jumped back up in to the top 10 on steam today. Wonder if its anything to do with his review.

Just curious, but could you elaborate? I havent played the game yet but its disappointing hearing some of the stuff about the stronghold, but as I remember in BG2 all the stronghold did was give out quests (enjoyable quests as I remember), but after just became a building where you could store items? At least I remember my rangers hut being used largely for just RP and storage after id done the quests. Well, BG 2's big pluses on that were that the strongholds were customised to your character class, which was really cool (although I think that it was probably far less useful from an objective standpoint than the TOB/KOTOR style hub you have in this game). Didn't have any of the beautiful dynamic environment etc stuff that PoE has either. I guess that can be seen as an advantage. Doing a different one for every class wouldve been alot of work though..

The Gamespot review
Excalibur_2102 replied to sim-h's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
8 is a pretty good score really, though his reasons for lowering to that score are more questionable. The overall review is favorable, and really I'm just glad virtually all reviews so far have been positive. Just some more positive than others. -
Realistic dates for PoE 2

I think tomorrow is likely, with the day after being the worst case scenario.. -
Oh, I'm sure he did it all on his own. It's not like Obsidian would've kept the text in the game if he said no. They would've just deleted it altogether without having him rewrite it. Thought youd come out with that one. But the fact is we dont know what Obsidian would have done had he said no, which he didnt. So that point is moot. Have you actually asked Obsidian to give you your money back by the way? You never know.

You're simply not going to look at this in context are you? Not only that but you ignore the fact that it does not change the game drastically like you say it does (unless all you did in the game was sit and read that memorial text over and over and over), you ignore the fact that this is Obsidians game anyway so they choose what goes in, and you have never acknowledged that the backer in question (firedorn) agreed to have this changed anyway, and was given the choice.
-
Oh, come on.. "Drastically changed"?? It was a few lines on a memorial stone that has absolutely zero effect on gameplay. This is obsidians game and it is, ultimately, up to them what gets put in it. How is approaching the backer and saying "do you want to change what you put on on your memorial stone in light of whats happened?" How is that unethical at all? The backer then decided to change the tomb stone to something else of his choosing, without making a fuss at all, and in fact has defended obsidian about the choice, when it is he who has the most reason to be angry! Youre also ignoring the fact that this is not a matter of free speech.. Everyone involved in this issue has had "free speech", including the SJWs who brought this up in the first place, the backer who changed it, and of course everyone who seems to think that it is a great injustice that it has been changed. Everyone has had the right to voice their opinion, but the decision was made to change that "controversial" content.

Well yeah. Even the masses (who I trust more of late than reviewers on more well-known sites) love this game which makes the constant harangue of negativity on the forum all the more mystifying to me; especially given how the complaints are contrary to how most people are finding the game (myself included.) Yeah its a bit odd.. Though I have noticed it in most game releases to be honest
-
Am I the only one who feels this is getting blown out of proportion? I too was disappointed and actually somewhat surprised after hearing they had removed it. But from doing a few minutes research I discovered that there is still an entry for firedorn at the end of the memorials, and that Obsidian were in communication with the backer while making changes to the memorial. So chances are the backer wrote the new entry and does not have a problem with it. It was his $500, and judging by the changes to the memorial he is taking the situation rather light heartedly while other backers are crying murder. I definitely agree with voicing concerns about this but the backer with the most right to complain does not seem to be making a huge issue of this. I highly doubt he was forced in to making the changes either, but instead given the option. Hopefully it will all be clarified soon, but if other backers want their name removed from the credits then just contact obs directly, even it to me it seems an extreme over reaction.

If its that bad, then obsidian may choose to do something about it (although dont count on it). Inexile actually sent all their backers (at collectors edition) an extra poster as they were not happy with the one that initially shipped. Perhaps obsidian will take the same stance with this. I like the overall look of the PoE CE from the pictures ive seen, but hearing about the map is a bit disappointing. I don't think the manual looks "small" though, from what ive seen? surely its over 100 pages?

There were a lot of praise threads here a few days ago. Those threads seem to have a few replies and then die away. Hate threads (or even just constructive criticism) on the other hand seem to invoke more discussion or disagreement... Or Flame wars, lol.bn Which of course means they are top of the list more often
