Huh. Regarding BaW About to start NG+, only to find that the current main mod I have installed is incompatible with it. Dagnabbit.
-
Do you have proof of this? Because not even Google has claimed such -- all we know is the manifesto is in breach of their "code of conduct". Besides, he wasn't "undermining" anything, except perhaps the uniform acceptance of the party line. He's just complaining that Two Minutes Hate cramps his style.
-
Heh, point taken. Still, it's deliciously ironic that they are all for diversity, except where it concerns political sensibilities. The fallout from this is going to hurt them way more than any manifesto, I think. Wonder if the guy has a legal leg to stand on.
-
Nah, the premise is more that the company isn't big on dissenting opinions and honest discussion regarding its overt political agenda, which is kinda evidenced by the fact that he's been fired faster than you can say "politically incorrect". I guess some people care more about their politics than they do about a free sandwich, who'd a thunk it.
-
Not "full" actually, because Gizmodo amputated links and charts from the document. another link Guy's been fired, btw.

I was surprised by how good HoS was. Meh. I don't know, writer exhaustion perhaps? On the other hand, production values are pretty great. Beauclair is stunning, and as always, attention to detail is impressive. Well worth the price, and I don't even remember the last time I felt that way regarding DLC.

My fear is that the positive reviews are totally over-biased just because the older generation gets a feeling of nostalgia, or just because they got lucky and it actually works so suddenly that warrants the positive review already? Either way, this is the same story of any "Support it! Bring back the 80's/90's games, we have to support it" You know... Old people will be sure to defend it even if it's crap I think this Steam discussion (although it got silly) says it all. http://steamcommunity.com/app/650670/discussions/0/1471967615846929849/ It's important to remember that this is indeed a very "niche" game. Not alot of people will buy it, there are only 84 reviews at the moment which is nothing. The game was at like 48% positive but now is at 70% positive. Just remember, the negative reviewers have no reason to be biased against the game, they bought the game and wanted to like it. Also, its inportant to note that the general playtime for both positive and negative reviews seems to be 0.1 to 5.0 hours.... but I guess positive reviews are more "valid" than negative reviews huh? Hmmm... I'm adopting the Obsidian forum logic I see hehe As of writing this, not one of the 84 reviews, nobody has even 8 hours of playtime.. When the game supposedly has 600 hours of gameplay. That should be a red flag to anyone with common sense so I do not blame you for being cautious lol

Yeah, I don't think anyone actually said, "hey, let's shoot ourselves in the foot". However, MEA already had the difficult task of regaining lost goodwill with the fans following the whole ME3 endings/EC brouhaha. They chose to take the franchise in a substantially different direction, and to completely sidestep the problematic RGB endings. To make things worse, they handed the project to an unproven studio, and put the chief architect of the ME3 debacle at the helm. And to top it off, they went ahead with the march release when the game clearly needed at least 3-6 months more. Don't even get me started on the MP. It makes no sense for anyone involved to intentionally try to destroy the IP. In retrospect, however, I can't think of many opportunities for them to drop the ball, which they didn't take. If it was intentional, the result wouldn't be much different. Will we see another ME? Depends on whether biower survives long enough, I think. If they manage to produce another bomb like MEA, I'd say outlook not so good.
-
Plus, biower likely have their hands full with DA4 and Totally Not A Destiny Clone, which seems to be their attempt at jumping on the "games as a service" bandwagon. SWTOR refuses to die as well, which I suppose keeps Austin somewhat busy. So I doubt we'll see another ME game for a long time, if ever. In hindsight, it almost looks like someone made the decision to bury the IP on purpose, absurd as that idea is.

Haha. Knowing that a 165 lbs body being hurled at 50 mph has about the same kinetic energy as a .50 BMG round leaving the muzzle also helps understand why you'd want the government to force the other guy to wear his seatbelt in case of a frontal collision. Also, what do you do about people who drive but don't know physics. ****, I can't believe I'm arguing in favor of laws. But seriously, of all the stupid **** the government makes you do, you guys pick seatbelts?

Well played. Had me going there for a second. I can't answer for things I did not see first hand. So to tell the truth I really can't say much about the other services either, just the one I was in. But n that one, incompetence was a definite hindrance to promotion. As were character flaws. Unfortunately being an assohle was not counted as a character flaw so we did have quite a few of those climb the ladder. The remark was more along the lines of being "the best" at something doesn't necessarily mean being "good" at it, just that the competition is even worse, which could be a literal interpretation of what you said. I believe the English idiom is "damning with faint praise". Just yanking your chain a bit, don't take it too seriously. My own experience is that it wasn't hard to find NCOs that couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery, while simultaneously resenting career officers (regardless of their competence level). I wouldn't have trusted any of those clowns to lead me to the grocery store, let alone the 'stan. Then again, my experience wasn't in the US military, so it's possible things are different and there's a true culture of excellence. People are rarely systematically excellent though, so I'm not inclined to believe it.

From what I recall, they licensed the models from Piranha Games, who had been using those mechs in MechWarrior Online for, uh, a year? It wasn't a problem until now because, as Shady pointed out, they are redesigns. I hear there's rumors on the internets that Harmony Gold's renewed IP trolling efforts may have something to do with the Robotech live-action film having apparently just left development hell.

You... you mean that acting tough on the internets isn't enough? brb need to rethink my life

So I found a mod that does something about itemization, in part at least (addressing crafted and DLC equipment obsolescence): http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2120 What this does is automagically and constantly update base values for witcher gear and Relic DLC stuff, bringing it up to par with random leveled vendor trash that you come across. Attributes are untouched which means that there's still a valid reason to upgrade to a higher tier. From what little I've tested, seems to work fine. Not sure if balance will be thrown out the window though, considering that devs never intended for witcher gear to level like random loot. edit: 3 level 48 boars still do a number on me easily with my (leveled) Mastercrafted Feline armor, so yeah, doesn't look like it's imba. Enemy Upscaling on.

Ah. So police brutality is acceptable depending on context? Hilarious because especially in the case of hardened gangbangers, violence does absolutely nothing to deter them. Those guys are willing to go up against los zetas without batting an eyelash. You think hitting their heads on police cars or being roughed up a bit by cops while "resisting arrest" is going to accomplish anything, other than possibly a bunch of lawsuits that taxpayers have to pick up the tab for? Nah. It's only internet badasses like you that fear police brutality, when you just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Yeah, that's one of my biggest gripes with the writing as well, apart from the lack of meaningful consequences to choices made in TW/TW2 that you mentioned. I'm going to use spoiler tags from now on because there's a bunch of people that haven't played it yet, apparently. Gameplay wise, I went with a full overhaul mod right off the bat (School of the Roach) which seemed to appeal to my tastes. I died quite often because I have the patience of a three year old and waiting and learning patterns before CHARGING!!1 is not at all my speed, but the harder combat coupled with the "enemy upscaling" option in the game prevented the god syndrome that is so frequent in the late game of RPGs. Even a pack of wolves or especially boars can tear me a new one if I'm not careful, and I'm currently around level 50. There's none of this "meditate anywhere with alcohol and all your potions are refilled" nonsense, neither. Itemization is still garbage though, and it pisses me off to no end that a random armor from some chest is better than the Elite Super Grandmaster Godslayer piece I spent 15k gold crafting, and hunting for the corresponding schematics. Next playthrough will probably be with a mod that tries to address that. I was thinking W3EE but that comes bundled with stupid Oblivion-esque "learn by doing" leveling which I detest. This doesn't even qualify as #firstworldproblems though, great game overall. Have yet to play B&W.

Nope. No one can lawfully stop him from launching a nuclear attack, and attempting to do so would probably be treason or something. The only one who could do it is the SecDef, and only if it could not be verified that the order comes from Trump. That being said, the answer to the question "Can anyone stop Trump from ordering a nuclear strike?" is probably classified. Would Mattis intervene and derail any such orders even though he is not permitted to do so? We had this issue come up last year, too. Look up Harold Hering. The whole thing is a crisis waiting to happen, if you ask me.

To no one's surprise, I agree with and fully endorse Gorgon's "angry old men" assessment. I'd be happy if just the forum's software was updated to fix bugs we've been dealing with for years now and allowed for stuff like @callouts which are a common feature in other forums. Whatever is done, make it optional. I get it that youngsters these days love social media, mobile-optimized content and obtrusive storefront-gaming platforms, and it makes sense to appeal to them, but please don't force it on us angry old men. Best of luck.

Again with the insinuation that homeless people are just lazy. It's such a great thought process because it goes like "only lazy people are ever homeless → I'm not lazy → I will never be homeless". If only. I take it then that, for instance, the hundreds of thousands of homeless veterans are just lazy? A certain book I'm reading says that that, by 1993, just about 5% of all companies in the US had started looking into ways to automate processes and suppress jobs, where 75% of all jobs in the US were essentially repetitive tasks (i.e. easily substituted for a machine). I take it that the millions of people being laid off with no prospects of finding even a job flipping burgers are lazy? The downward slope in prime-age male % participation in the workforce hasn't changed despite the recent employment upturn, which is in part driven by poor quality job creation. Are those not able to find stable, full-time jobs lazy? And no, you don't see roving gangs of starving proles because they turn to crime rather than starve. Are you sure you don't see roving gangs in the most economically depressed areas of the US?

(emphasis mine) Much like with the whole "invisible hand" gimmick, I'm not really sold on this romantic vision that "winners and losers" is a state of affairs that is desirable, if being a loser means lacking basic means to sustain yourself through no fault of your own. This isn't a game, and in this context, the increasing amount of "losers" tend to turn to crime which threatens the stability of society as a whole. A system that will not make everyone rich but will indeed make most poor is, I'm sorry, a very bad system. And I see no reason why a system created by humans to serve humans "should not be controlled". That's very much what laissez-faire is, at its core.

It's not a scam! It's the absolute minimum goal, we have additional (but obviously limited) funding sources and most importantly: we live like spartans... Good to know. It's just that the pitch is incredibly ambitious for a game to be made with less than €10k, and it looks as though a lot of work has gone into the project already. And seeing that it's based in Germany, I thought it might be taking advantage of EU game development co-financing programs or something. Only turnoff that I can see is that it seems to be Steam-only, everything else looks pretty good. Good luck!
