  1. Chill. It's WAPO. Fake News. Sigh. Literally one click. One.
  2. HIAS' mission is, on paper, out to help out refugees, no matter their background. They could assist Egyptian Copts, Syrian Muslims or even Colombian atheists fleeing the low-intensity civil war there. But to the observant, er... observer, this is only a cover for their true purpose: importing Muslim rapefugees into the US as part of the Kalergi master plan. It's up to Joe Sixpack to stop it because Trump is in fact a puppet of the Reptilians or some such, and will do nothing. None of this is "sound" of course, but as others pointed out, if you're the kind of guy willing to shoot up a synagogue, that won't stop you.
  3. I love how Red Bruce makes Blue Bruce look like a perfectly rational and reasonable guy. Yeah, I suppose that whether he's a bona fide fascist or just a Trump larper is going to depend on how much he uses state power to repress the opposition, be it social or political. Authoritarian populist nationalism of far-right flavor is the textbook definition of fascism. Considering his background and his pining for Brazil's 20-odd year military dictatorship as well as his hardliner views on security and law enforcement, I'd be surprised if he ends up being as ineffectual as his idol. I'm not one to throw the "fascist" label around lightly, but if it talks like a duck, walks like a duck...
  4. Not surprising. He was actually quite close to winning outright in the first round, he was just under 4 points short of the 50% he needed. It's pretty crazy because the highest-polling candidate (Lula) is actually serving a sentence for corruption and was rightly barred from running. If Haddad had won, he would have probably pardoned him and would have vindicated Bolsonaro anyway. Guess that after a few years of the crony capitalism of the corrupt left, the people want to try on some fascism for size. Just another variation of "teh nazis were actually left-wing". Nothing to see, move along.
  5. Ireland just voted to abrogate blasphemy law But, but, how are we going to protect people's feels now?
  6. Yep. I may have mentioned this before, but some assclown "comedian" faced the same over here. Yesterday, I'd have expected any convictions in that case to be overturned by the ECHR. Today I'm not so sure. The prosecutors were hounded on him by the previous conservative and strongly Catholic-rooted government—somehow I doubt they would have shown the same zeal if he'd been mocking Muhammad instead. Which he wouldn't, either. By the way, "protection of the right of citizens not to be insulted in their religious feelings by the public expression of views of others" is bull**** reasoning. Does that also cover people who profess to be "jedi"? Pastafarians? Or just fanfiction written by some goat****er at least a thousand years ago? Previous rulings in that regard only show that the ECHR are consistent in their idiocy. Bunch of spineless twats, man. As always, trust the EU to fix exactly diddly squat. edit: this is the ECHR, not the ECJ, so not an actual EU organ. I can't into bureaucracy
  7. Explosives, yes. What they apparently lacked was a trigger. So they probably wouldn't go off unless someone at the post office punted the package or something. From what I've read, anyway. Haha, oh wow. Please please, someone sue Charlie Hebdo.
  8. US Congress deems it legal to circumvent DRM to repair electronic devices Yeah, didn't know whether to post this on the RVGN thread or here. But since this seems to have been triggered chiefly by farming equipment manufacturers' practices, I figured this is the right place. So let me get this straight. Private personal property is sacrosanct, but it's still up to a bunch of kleptocrats in Washington to tell you what you can and cannot do with your stuff?
  9. The whole white race? Sounds like a lot of work. On the other hand, if I hadn't quit studying Russian, I'm sure Oby could have hooked a brother up. Dagnabbit. Location: Finland "dirty commie..."
  10. That's been the right-wing's schtick at least since the right-wing was literally invented, back in 18th century France. Justified or not, they must always be reacting against the international conspiracy to sap and impurify their precious bodily fluids oppression of progressives. BTW guys, I get the feeling that the weird Poe experiment we've got going on in the last few pages is getting out of hand...
  11. No, it's FACT:
  12. Suspected bombs sent to Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and CNN building inb4 "they mailed them themselves"
  13. Yes and no. The things listed are exclusively the paid stuff. The general economy overhaul is part of the upcoming 2.2 Le Guin patch, which will release at the same time, but is free. The stream also had some cheap shots at scientology and lootboxes (which the game now technically includes), but was surprisingly to the point concerning expansion features. Yeah. The game is currently sorely lacking in ways to deal with other countries that aren't outright war. What they showed regarding the crime syndicate civic is a step in that direction, so maybe if that sort of thing is well received they'll explore it more. I miss Coup Nation 667 (1000).
  14. Space communism, playable crime syndicates complete with hostile takeovers, planet-wide cities, and a few more megastructures. I really hope the next big patch is a diplomacy overhaul.
  15. They did that. Two problems, though. One, they didn't really look at what was inside each country's "bag", as in the case of Greece, turns out it was full of old newspaper clippings and lint (I read allegations that they actually did know what was inside, but brushed off concerns for the sake of political expediency). And two, not too long after their "you must be this rich*" thresholds were announced, France and Germany no longer met their own requirements themselves by virtue of overrunning the deficit limits. They pardoned themselves or some such bull**** instead of paying fines or kicking themselves out of the union as they should have done had they had a modicum of shame. *fiscally responsible
  16. Oh, sure. There's plenty of overtime regulation and worker protections. They just aren't enforced for ****. Last place I worked at had several complaints filed against them for illegal shifts and other shenanigans. Never heard back, inspectors never showed up, and everything went on business as usual. In some sectors (advertising/PR for instance), it's common that you literally never know when you're getting off work on a given day, and you'll get laughed out the office if you demand compensation. Regulation schmegulation.
  17. Paradox Development Studio: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love DLC. I don't know about non Paradox-developed games, though. The DLC announcement for BATTLETECH seemed somewhat lackluster feature-wise for example, and one of the big points (multi-mission "flashpoints") had already been done by mods.
  18. If it was a free(mium) addon to FO4, I'd understand them reusing most assets and basically slapping a bunch of network libraries on top of a new map and then calling it a day. In a $60 game? Seems to me like they are trying to double-dip, as it were. Don't get me wrong, it may be a fun game to explore with friends, and I may pick it up at some point if/when they make private instances a possibility, and provided I'm not forced to use Bethesda's proprietary bloatware. However it'll assuredly be at a heavy discount, as befits the production values they've shown.
  19. Because they need something to keep people engaged until Oblivion in Space, and a low-effort FO4 repackage that tries to cash in on the multiplayer survival-building-crafting fad just hits the spot.
  20. As I recall, If you don't do everything, you don't get to fight him. And if you don't fight him, you can't turn him in which means you can't get 100% on all baddies. This in turn locks you out of the best/true ending. Brilliant, don't you think? Just watch it on YT when you are done because it's not worth the aggravation.
  21. Indeed. In tabletop players can also make informed decisions because rules aren't obscure or outright hidden—you can just crack the Player's Handbook or whatever open and find out exactly what is the required STR to operate that +8 vorpal spoon. In CRPGs this is rarely ever the case, even less so with the disappearance of manuals. There is also the "ongoing development" problem. It has become an accepted practice that for the first year or so, games are released in what amounts to a beta state, subject to substantial changes in mechanics and balance. Oh, you found this sweet build that devs didn't think about but now regard as imba? Sorry, your character is now good only as comic relief because the designer is channeling his inner Thanos. Feel free to reroll. Having the option to respec in CRPGs is good and respectful of players' time. As someone with rather poor impulse control I say, learn to control the impulse to abuse the **** out of it.
  22. I'm partial to Turning Point Prussia, myself.
  23. Some employees. You also have this guy. Stockholm syndrome among workers is fairly common, I've found, and is one of the chief enablers of abuses and illegal workplace practices and conditions. Personally, I try to compensate for these Stakhanovites by being a total drain on company resources. Thus, the net result is perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
  24. Is the AI improved any? Last time I played about a year ago, my friend who was playing as Rome (I was playing as Seleucid master race) had the Senate take everything east of Illyria. Didn't matter because stupid AI would raise legions in the ass-end of nowhere and the concept of reinforcing cities seemed completely alien to it. That and the doomstacking approach to taking cities basically ruined the game for me.
