I find it hard to get behind "x in name only"-type arguments. "Coffee" refers to the toasted beans of a particular plant, so anything that isn't that, isn't coffee by definition. In contrast, Star Trek *is* whatever they slap the franchise name on. Which is kind of a problem with art in general. That being said, when a show induces facepalming literally within the first five minutes and it doesn't stop happening until I close the browser, that's maybe a bad sign. I really wanted to like this show. The protagonist being an obvious STRONG BLACK WOMAN with hardly any flaws bar her own awesomeness doesn't bother me excessively. The redesigned klingons get a pass as far as I'm concerned. The nonsense about the fungus network engine can work if it takes a backseat to interesting plots. The problem is, it never really does. What is this show even supposed to be about? Does Kurtzman know? So all I see is Star Trek: CURRENT YEAR, where the obviously overweight female cadet beats the visibly fit male Asian in a half-marathon after taking a few minutes to talk to herself. After a few tear-jerking scenes about how mommy never loved me enough and RAPE, one or two deus ex machina with some neato VFX interspersed, the credits roll. And instead of food for thought, I'm left in my chair with one question: why do I bother? disclaimer: I do in fact shave my neck

That's the "millennials in the workplace" viral rant guy. What makes you think they didn't?

as evidenced by the fact that you're off by a factor of 10 Watch the video with the subtitles on. It's not easy to be up on the fluff of a non-existent franchise, let me tell you. -

Not up on my 4K lore, but I'd say Eldar. Heads too far up their own asses to really get anything done, and everyone except themselves knows they are a joke. The hive mind thing is applicable to pretty much the entire political spectrum -- I'm not sure it's truly ever been otherwise. -

Nice. Normie anchor even knew that this is a "Warhammer 4K" reference. But of course they had to be Ultramarines. Bleh. -

If/when the food riots and general economic collapse finally hit "Great" Britain and it functionally becomes Europe's Venezuela, can we count on orange man to at least consider military intervention to deliver the British people from the oppression and tyranny of old people? -

Not that I remember. Openly anti-Western, but never openly Nazi. Unless you regard a raging pro-Putin boner as requiring fascist leanings. From what I remember from exchanging PMs with Wals, he was certain that oby's posts frequently contained neo-Nazi themes and references (that he had to explain to me). I didn't really doubt him, but I'm pretty sure it was so obscure that any such things went unnoticed by the board's user base at large. -
Imperator Rome is also available as a pre-order on GOG, if you prefer DRM free version of this Grand Strategy game. https://www.gog.com/news/preorder_imperator_rome I would strongly recommend that anyone even remotely contemplating preordering a PDX product take a look at the complete ****show that is the latest Stellaris patch/DLC combo release. They have a long-standing reputation for shoddy releases and that shows that they are not getting better at this. The recent appointment of a new CEO straight from an online gambling firm (!) isn't exactly reassuring either.

IIRC he left because moderation was unwilling to ban obyknven over xyr crypto-nazi symbolism and references. So yeah, long before Brexit. Smart lad. -
About $150 million a year, if I'm not mistaken. Not too shabby. Daniel Erickson described it as "basically a huge, sprawling, ever expanding BioWare storyline with a multiplayer marketplace, social spaces and PVP". So, more like the episodic format of KotFE, and less like Ilum PVP. more on that from the perspective of someone who did QA for the game early on A bit of creative quoting and editing of the post made it easier to read Haha, that bit was their wording, as part of the rationale for canceling Ragtag, IIRC. But yeah, one-off payments? Weak, right?

Yes, but even Warframe's wildly successful model pales in comparison to the kind of money that EA's other live services bring in by about an order of magnitude. Apparently, it's been decided that anything that isn't making Ultimate Team-levels of profit is a waste of time. And, as per opportunity cost decision making, that's true... based on the assumption that any genre can be the sports genre.

Instead of only making games in genres they're good at, the developers try to expand into every popular genre, and usually fail miserably. Not only Obs but even Blizzard fumbled. I'm not sure I'd blame Bioware this time. It's worth remembering that SWTOR wasn't initially conceived as a MMO to kill WoW -which in retrospect justifies the awful choice of engine- and "sources claim" that they have repeatedly attempted to make a more traditional KotOR (even going so far as building a prototype), but EA just isn't down with the idea. This jibes with their constant push to make everything a service that players can keep going back to, which was precisely their reason for canceling Ragtag and Orca. Anthem looks to me like an attempt to catch lightning in a bottle in the vein of ME3MP, only designed from the get-go to be their billion-dollar-per-annum shooter holy grail. I don't need to consult my magic 8-ball to see that it's going to fall short of that.

There has to be a middle ground between having to fiddle with autoexec.bat to decide whether to run the mouse driver or the game itself, and total brain-dead single install button that allows corps to ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL. For me that sweet spot was the Win95/98-era setup, but I reckon that folks who got into gaming around the time Steam was gaining traction may have different opinions. I'm not going to "boycott" anything. I'm just lazy. And cheap.

That's because the actual shorthand is DIS, following the convention of previous shows (cf. ENT, VOY, etc). "STD" was something angry neckbeards came up with. Low hanging fruit and all that. I have access to a Netflix sub (it's distributed by them over here) but haven't bothered with S2. Funny, I also have HBO and the Amazon thing, but can't be arsed to even browse the catalogs. I am dead inside.

I hope orange man goes through with it and deploys to Venezuela. Another quagmire is just what the US economy needs, and I'm sure their popular support in Latin America would increase at least tenfold. Euro allies would also look fantastic supporting the move, not to mention Justin "if you kill your enemies, they win" Trudeau. Shame about the millions of dead and displaced, but hey, that's the price of progress. And maybe they can form a MAGA Legion so they can spare top tier troops Whoa there cowboy. I'm pretty sure these badasses can do some serious damage. -

"Now" being the operative word. It'll be available on Steam and elsewhere in 2020. Which is a good thing for me as I have zero interest in installing even more proprietary bloatware. By 2020 the game will probably be complete with all DLC and patches and available at a hefty discount, so thanks for making it easier for me to wait, Deep Silver! https://www.pcgamer.com/metro-exodus-will-only-release-on-the-epic-store-but-steam-preorders-will-be-honoured/ If you wait to 2021, you'll get a better one. That's a good point actually. In two years, the modding community for the game will also have matured, producing fixes for the inevitable stupid design decisions. Odds of the game showing up on GOG will increase over time as well.

Bethesda's story is that access to the secret dev room is impossible without third party tools. If so, this is fundamentally no different from aimbotters in PUBG. Of course Bethesda would say that, but absent an adequate explanation from the affected parties, I have no reason to disbelieve that. I mean, it's a toss-up between publishers and (online) gamers as to who is worse. Since it's on Bethesda's antiquated engine, any way to exploit it would be well known at this point and likely wouldn't require actual third party tools. Simply because it's well known it doesn't mean it's doable without third party tools. For example, the scripting of the Gamebryo engine has been well documented, but script extenders are still needed to do a lot of things that are now regarded as basic by the community. In an online game, this is a huge no-no, especially when this affords an advantage over other players. The alternative is that they left 'tcl' unlocked for players to use freely, without the need to modify any files or inject anything into the memory. Which strains credulity, even considering the complete ****show this game has been in the QA department.
