  1. I'm surprised nobody has posted this yet. New Star Wars movie to be written and directed by Taika Waititi Best news all week, honestly. Fingers crossed that KK's contract will be up by the time work begins so she can't **** with this one too.
  2. Aaand... that's why you block all trackers, always.
  3. Neil Ferguson: Government coronavirus adviser quits after home visits from married lover So... I guess the chief architect of the UK's U-turn regarding suppression is now officially a "covidiot"? Heh.
  4. Ain't gonna happen. It's so hip and cool to make twatter posts laughing about LARPers and beauty and the beast reenactors, but the fact remains that cops aren't harassing and beating the **** out of them, while the statist parasites in the capitol buildings they walk into are at least forced to listen to them protest. The rest of us? Heh. I'll bet they are real worried about these angry posts popping up in places like forums.obsidian.net. But hey, at least we didn't die from corona. And that's the only metric that matters, right?
  5. I keep telling myself that I need to make sure they aren't malicious.
  6. Disable JavaScript. Anyway, the article is garbage, so the paywall may be actually protecting you from losing a few IQ points. Through liberal cherry-picking -Malaysia, Singapore* and Indonesia are all conveniently left out of the "analysis" as is, most glaringly, Belgium- and by connecting the dots by means of "with this therefore because of this" you can draw any conclusion you want, backed by "data", no matter how absurd. The piece is just a glorified blog post -- neither news nor rigorous analysis. And people actually pay to read this tripe? *Singapore's HoS is a woman, but her role is largely ceremonial (sexist pigs!); the HoG is a man.
  7. Yeah, a pity that we'll never get a full-fledged game out of that. If it does well, maybe we can hope for a DL2 spin-off or something further down the line.
  8. Furthermore, there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 in that township. This is the result of two months of non-stop plague journalism. It's easy to point and laugh at the genius who came up with this idea, but what the news don't tell you is how hysterical the autochthonous karens and kyles have got about this. I have very little doubt that many people would have considered it a great idea if some ecologist hadn't raised a huge stink. It's to protect the children, you can never be too careful, and so on.
  9. Yeah, I'm not sure what the original piece was referring to either, and even if that's the same that was being discussed in the interview.
  10. Are we talking about refugees or economic migrants?
  11. Colony Ship interview Nothing too revealing about the game itself, but:
  12. Another day in Bizarro World, where Bruce is a pinko commie and tech megacorps side with users against states. (I know, it's really more about resistance to ceding control and tech hurdles, but still...)
  13. Well, that does not happen in a vacuum. Individuals need to be monitored and strictly regulated by the state because they cannot be trusted to make responsible decisions -- or because it is believed that the possibility of making the wrong decisions that comes as a cost of freedom outweighs the benefits of freedom itself. That idea is a central tenet of authoritarian one-party ideologies regardless of where on the left-right spectrum you place them. People are largely ok with living in authoritarian police states, so long as respected authority figures can convince them that it's for a nebulous notion of "the greater good". Wow, we really are through the looking glass if I'm the one lecturing you on freeduhm. I'd say it's relevant to anywhere where you have leaders talking down to the citizenry as if they were children and promising simple solutions to problems so complex that experts are wary of making definitive statements. People abhor uncertainty and that's one of the reasons why religion has always had so much pull.
  14. Do you really need me to spell out the authoritarian drift the West is, and has been for decades, on? To you, of all people?
  15. It's a great irony that he apparently won't live to see a world that has functionally vindicated the ideology NK runs on.
  16. And done. There's a significant overlap between COVID-19 and politics, but the overt China/US bashing doesn't really belong in this thread. So I'm going full CCP and enforcing strict topic distancing rules. They seem to be "clarifying" their stance now.
  17. Early days, so as with everything else regarding the pandemic, you should take this with a grain of salt. But counterintuitive as it is, thus far smoking seems to be, at worst, a non-factor and at best smokers are strongly underrepresented in COVID-19 cases. https://www.qeios.com/read/review/186 https://www.ejinme.com/article/S0953-6205(20)30110-2/fulltext https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3566160 And yes, as you said, this seems to have been a wake up call for many smokers, who are thinking of or have already quit. The difference with the other knee-jerk reactions we've seen is that quitting smoking is probably a good idea, notwithstanding COVID-19.
  18. I was recently bitten by the old space sim bug too, so here: Ah, iMuse. Good times.
  19. "Odds are, something you like very much sucks. Why? Because this is the RPGCodex unpopular gaming opinions thread"
  20. Yeah, that's because you are deleting the "hidden" opening CSS tag that is changing the formatting of your post, as if you were deleting an old bbcode tag. The forum software automatically adds any missing closing tags, including bbcode tags. It may not happen on your desktop because the way each browser handles the copy to clipboard function is slightly different. For me, IE doesn't store style tags, but Opera does. YMMV.
  21. Well, that, much like the handgun solution, is guaranteed to prevent death from COVID-19. And seeing as how that's the only valid metric...
  22. Well... it's more a usability or user configuration issue than something to fix per se. The clipboard can store more than just text, and the new forum software accepts those extra data types to save you the "hassle" of having to do things like pasting links in two steps. You can even ctrl+v images directly too. The problem is that it's also pasting CSS tags which I think is something normal forum users do not want 99% of the time. To avoid that just "paste as plain text" instead of ctrl+v'ing. I'm not sure how that works from a mobile device, though.
  23. Dammit. Why didn't I think of using Trump's endorsement to buy pharma stock.
  24. I'm waiting for Fox News to catch wind of the tocilizumab and sarilumab trials being carried out, some time next week. Then those'll be Trump's new miracle drugs. At some point, they'll find a drug that 60% of the time, works every time. I expect Trump to tout each and every one of them as the snake oil salesman he is, and I expect the msm to point and laugh, just because orange man, regardless.
