  1. I think Heart of the Storm is really *really* not worth it. I'd rather get Rime for +frost damage. Granted there are only 2 frost spells that are really worth it, but god do they dish out the pain.
  2. I do not think one can beat the game with a party of 6 rogues, on POTD. There are almost always more than 6 enemies, none of which a rogue could duel, let alone 1v2 or 1v3.
  3. While I agree that Chanters need some attention (as a matter of fact I've posted 2 threads recently relating to mechanics which, I believe, should be looked at), you're very much mistaken here. Why would you want Chanters to "fill an alternate role to priests" ? They're already filling a different role, unless you can offer me a priest build which can offtank while providing healing and buffs/debuffs for an unlimited period of time. Your reasoning is based on the (factually incorrect) assumption that "priests are mandatory". They're not, and many other POTDers beside me have already attested to just that. No offense.
  4. You can run POTD without a priest quite easily. You can run POTD without a maintank not quite easily at all. So which is the most useful class now, your fighter/chanter/pala maintank, or the squishy mewling robed human they're covering for ?
  5. The Merciless Hand specifically states : +0.3 to crit damage multiplier One can only assume they do not.
  6. There are plenty of ways they already do benefit: Int gives you AoE size and linger duration, Perception gives you accuracy on offensive phrases, and Might affects the damage of the (small number of) damage phrases. I could stand to see Dexterity affect the ratio of phrase:linger, and a greater variety of better phrases, but aside from that, I think the attribute interactions are fine. This isn't really the big problem with Chanters, anyway. Rather, the main issue is and has been that higher-level invocations are harder to access in combat, and that higher level phrases decrease your ability to access any invocations whatsoever. Effectively, a chanter is incentivized not to use the abilities they gain as they level up. That's bad. Agree to disagree here. The 4th level shield phrase is, for example, exceedingly badly balanced. The shield's value does not scale with Might, and it takes longer to refresh at higher Intelligence. I realize that's just the one example, but that is the most poignant and, indeed, the most disappointing seeing it's the ultimate tier of Chants as of now. While I do not care overmuch because my heart ever goes to rogues or wizards, in truth Chanters and their stat interactions really need to be looked at.
  7. Thank you for the answers, everyone. Ah, but that is a sad day. Here I was, envisioning a deep tank build for my chanter, along with SoF + that AOE burn chant. Obviously I can still do that, I'll just deal 25% less damage...
  8. I'm not entirely sure preventing a 3-4 seconds gap in-between songs is worth 8 stat points altogether. I certainly would love for the Chant and Invocation mechanics to be reworked so they actually benefit from higher stats. Summons could inherit a portion of your pros and cons from stats, chants could scale up (or down!).
  9. Although I would concede the point in the case of Druids, whose spell supply is limited, Chanters can sing forever. Case 1, normal int (I'm using random numbers here) : - 100 damage over 20 seconds Song over ? Chant again for 20 seconds : - 100 damage over 20 seconds Case 2, godlike int (again random numbers) : - 200 damage over 40 seconds Now unless I am sorely mistaken, you get the very same damage output. Therefore, for Chanters, I put forth that Int doesn't increase Chant damage. One could argue in favour of a catastrophic scenario whereby your Chanter gets gibbed, so a longer duration Chant means while your Chanter is down, you'll get more damage done. But then, that seems situational to me, and that will not happen if you allocate these Int points to Resolve and Constitution. Edit: actually scratch that, I think the song's debuff is applied continually over its duration, not once as a long-lasting effect, so when your Chanter goes down, regardless of Int, the debuff wears off.
  10. Hello everyone, I'm pondering if Chanters benefit from the Scion of Flame talent, for the following : - increase the damage dealt by the 3rd level AOE burn damage chant ? (likely) - increase the bonus damage (which is a flat +25%) bestowed by the 3rd level flame weapons chant ? (unlikely) Furthermore, I'm wondering if allies likewise benefit from Scion of Flame for the 3rd level flame weapons chant. As in, your melee weapon deals an average of 20 damage per swing. Assuming a normal swing and 0 DR, you would deal 20 damage. Now let's factor in the 3rd level burning weapons chant, that would be 20 + (20/4) = 25 damage Now let's work with Scion of Flame, I believe 4 outcomes are possible : - SoF doesn't apply to the bonus damage from the chant - the Chanter has SoF, the chant now buffs not only 25% but (25% + (25/4)%) for a grand total of 31,25% - the wielder has SoF, the bonus damage goes up to 31,25% - the Chanter and wielder have SoF, the bonus damage goes up to (31,25% + (31,25/4)%) for a grand total of 39% Does anyone know ?
  11. Hey up everyone, So, I've been starting a new POTD playthrough this weekend with a limited party consisting of Eder (now that I think of it, maybe I should ditch him and create an Adventurer...), PC (wizard) and a Chanter. The Chanter is built to be a capable offtank, with high intelligence to offer a larger Chant radius. Now, I have a problem with Might and Intelligence : - a higher might does not benefit chants except for the ONE exception - a higher intelligence is actually detrimental to EVERY chant With regards to Might, Chants provide bonii based on static values : - the first level chant gives +10 will and fortitude , regardless of your Might - the 3rd level chant gives +25% burn damage, regardless of your Might - the 3rd level chant deals X burn damage per second, scaling with your Might - the 4th level chant gives a 30 point damage shield, regardless of your Might As for Intelligence, it gets even worse : - the 3rd level chant deals X burn damage over Y seconds, scaling with your Intelligence : this is a bad thing because it means the higher your intelligence, the longer it will take for the total damage to apply ! - the 4th level chant gives a 30 point damage shield for Y seconds, scaling with your Intelligence : again this is bad thing because it means the shield will take that much longer to refresh One would consider that as far as Chanters are concerned, Intelligence needs to work in 2 different ways : - Chants which provide party buffs should last longer at higher Intelligence scores, except for the 4th level shield, wherein a high Intelligence would cause it to last less, and thus be refreshed more often - Chants which apply enemy debuffs should last longer at higher Intelligence scores, except for the 3rd level burn damage AOE, wherein a high Intelligence would cause the chant to be shorter, thus applying the damage faster and more often As for Might, it is my belief that Chants should also scale with Might : - better buffs - better debuffs - scaling damage % on the burn damage for weapons aura Thoughts, anyone ?
  12. Ok the baby sneak attacks do not work with spells. They do however work with Kalakoth's Minor Blights, for the little good that does.
  13. Hey up everyone, I'm currently running POTD with an Aumaua wizard (for the +2 might, and the prone/stun resist). Wiz focuses on both CC and an array of damaging spells. I'm at the point where I can choose a faction and I'm thinking of going with Doemenel for the +30% crit damage bonus. I'm unsure, however, if it applies to spells. Anyone's been able to try that ? I'm also pondering if : - the white march Rogue talent for all classes (+15% damage baby sneak attacks) works with spells ? - sabres and war axes +50% crit damage enhance spell crits ? I'm gonna experiment a bit, but if anyone has already tried and knows, kindly tell.
  14. Not using a cipher here, on my Nth playthrough with a rogue But aye, good point.
  15. Ah that's my problem here, how they pulled it off. It feels, I don't know, cliché. Not to mention the quests do not show overmuch originality (although if we're going to be honest, all your basic quests will always be kill/escort/deliver timesinks). Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've played Torment, Kingdoms of Amalur and Divinity Original Sin, all of which have a soul-based storyline, and I still believe PoE's vanilla story is 100% original. I'm sad that the expansion's isn't. Oh and by the way, on the topic of clichés and tropes. I believe Dragon Age Origins did an absolutely magnificent job at avoiding them. Yes you do have your classical dwarves and elves, but are they different than what you usually expect ! Shame they ruined the franchise with DA2 and DA3 I guess.
  16. While I somewhat agree with your point, I find the number of similarities to be a bit too much. Copy a thing here or there, that works. Copy/paste the whole thing and people are going to notice. Hell the only thing that's lacking from TWF is dark elves invading the place -.- For now...
  17. And Salvatore didn't spoof Tolkien? You know, Moria and the huge doors scribed in ithildin.... I'm not going through your bullet points - but really, Tolkien was there first in THAT century - of course, even he used long-known tropes. Let's have a fun little exercise in math : [x] dwarven subterranean complex [x] requires some kind of whadafck to open That's 2 spoofs with regards to tolkien vs salvatore. Now back to our TWF vs Gauntlgrym bit, I refer you to my original post and the number of bullet points. And no, not everybody spoofs. As per my previous post, I believe the original story was indeed original, not some copycat. I very much liked the original campaign, I have more reservations about this one, in part due to the fact that I'm under the impression I'm reading the whole Neverwinter tetralogy again.
  18. This x1000. If people want well written stories they really need to avoid any d&d novels. Most of them (and I'm being charitable here) are rubbish. If you want great writing stick to great writers - it helps. And yes, just about everything has been done before. Tolkein himself copied freely from people who came before him. So hammering Obs for a lack of originality as opposed to some hack who wrote a few d&d novels is odd. Sorry when it comes to most fantasy literature, I tend to be a cynic - even more than usual. First of all, I fail to see what the author's skill or lack thereof has to do with anything, here. This is, at best, a meager attempt at belittling the blatant spoof, because "DND stories suck so it's ok amirite ?". Second, correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the original story was just that, original.
  19. Running 2.0.1 beta patched with IEMod, although IEMod's sources do not show any interaction with the itemization. The Spelltongue rapier is supposed to have the following effects : - steal 5s duration from beneficial buffs on target - steal 10% attack speed from target After some use, the item's description currently reads : - steal 25s duration - steal -170% attack speed I am unsure whether the issue is merely cosmetic or if I actually steal 25 seconds from buffs, I'll have to do more testing. Can anyone check if they have the same problem ?
  20. Confirming the problem also happens with the soulbound staff. Construct kills in Galvino's house do not count.
  21. Ok this is getting on my nerves more and more as the story progresses. Obsidian, don't you think you've pushed this a bit too far ? 80% of the story seems to just be a cheap rip-off from the Neverwinter saga ! [x] ancient dwarven homeland : Battery vs Gauntlgrym [x] the door bro, the door : both magnificent, 10 times taller than the inhabitants themselves, works of art [x] only dwarves may enter : ancient builder vs Delzoun Dwarves [x] just sing your way in : Cantec vs Bruenor using Delzoun songs [x] spirits inhabit the place : very likely true in TWM, true indeed in Gauntlgrym [x] houses an absolutely OP forge that everyone wants : white forge vs primordial-powered forge of Gauntlgrym Oh and while we're at it : [x] unto death itself : Galvino raising constructs vs Szass Tam's death ring [x] unto death itself revengeance : new monster lich vs Valindra / Szass Tam I'm likely 1/3 into the expansion and this very much looks like a blatant rip-off. Devs read the Neverwinter saga, run out of imagination, decide to take some inspiration here and there ? This is a huge, blatant spoof and I'm surprised the devs haven't faced an IP lawsuit yet. If I'd wanted to enjoy spoofed works, I'd have watched Pocahontas, then James Cameron's (bwahaha) Avatar. While I like the new level cap and abilities, I am disappointed by the story being really just a rip. I anticipate a good many people telling me to f off ; doesn't change the fact that this is a copycat story.
  22. Allow me to correct you here. For a dual wield rogue it is acceptable. Compared to a rogue using 2 handed weapons, this is downright laughable. If it had the same proc rate as other "inflict X on crit" weapons, it'd be worth it. A flat 10% regardless of it being a hit/crit however, is just not cutting it. If you're looking for an actual reliable way to set up your own Sneak Attacks, there is not a single item in the game that beats the Tall Grass. Spoiler alert, you're going to vendor trash Nightshroud afterwards.
  23. Nice to see you guys are still pumping out the patches. Saddened to see my bugreports still not fixed but hey, give it time I guess
