  1. Hell Kitty is the only one who gets me I guess I should have added a smiley onto my previous comment.
  2. If your ticket or dvd fails to function properly you can either get your money back or another version of the ticket/dvd that actually works. Big difference right there. I can only hope that as some point the govenment steps in and ends this ridiculous freedom of game developers to sell you something that doesn't work and yet still get to keep your money. Also spread misinformation and outright lie in the marketing/hype phase and then sell you a broken product. I once bought a movie that was unwatchable, some Dracula film. I mean, it wasn't broken, it was just an atrocious piece of film.
  3. One of the best things LotR Online added was cosmetic outfits. Basically you have all your armor on, but you have other slots for cosmetic outfits that don't affect stats but look much better. It's great for covering up all that mismatched armor.
  4. 28 Days Later is a great one. 28 Weeks Later was well-shot, but it's hard to believe so many people could make so many stupid decisions so consistently. I'll still watch a sequel though. I'm about halfway through a fairly recent Day of the Dead remake. It's pretty bad. My issue is that the zombies are all way too inconsistent. You have some zombies picking up mops to bang on air ducts when people are passing by, and that just seems a bit too much intelligence for a zombie. Plus they are super fast... it just seems like they've lost touch with the original zombie vision. I'm not sure how much involvement George Romero had in this, but it's been sad so far.
  5. I think you need to weigh in exactly what you are getting for $50. These are games that cost millions of dollars to make. It can't really be compared to other media forms, but the closest is probably the movies. So movies are initially released in theaters for a reasonable price, but it's a one shot deal and you don't get any ownership from it. You could wait for a movie to come out on DVD about 6 months afterwards and buy it for a reasonable $20. On the otherhand, waiting 6 months on a video game will also probably mean a price drop. I can see why a shorter game would caution you on paying full price. That's why you never see movies under 90 minutes.
  6. I haven't been able to trade in or sell a PC game for a long while, all the stores that used to handle PC games gave it up. As for owning the game and it being your right to sell it, it is actually a pretty grey area. You don't get to re-sell games you buy directly over Steam, so this is just moving further in that line of business. You can look at it two ways: 1. You buy a ticket to a movie. You watch the movie. You can even watch the movie over and over again. But you can't sell the ticket to someone else. 1. You buy a DVD. You can sell the DVD, but once it gets scratched, you are out of luck. These games are basically moving towards the former model. If you don't like it, you can not buy from them. But I honestly don't care enough about the few bucks I get from reselling games to forego buying quality titles.
  7. Everything that Starwars stated is true and would be awesome (except maybe the rape part.) Unfortunately the bulk of people that play MMO's feel the need to grind away at combat. In LotR Online, people ask me to join them to kill monsters over and over again for certain traits. I have no desire to do that. I'll kill stuff on the way to an objective, like if they are in the way or holding something I need, but I burn out super fast farming kills.
  8. As I mentioned earlier, this also has a lot to do with the economy of a game. In WoW, it would be an absolute crime if you could lose a set of armor, because it requires a lot to get it. It is a very gear-centic game. UO has a very different economy, and gear is not as important to the overall game experience. You could run around naked if you had the skills. And don't tell me you don't want to run around naked and fight. I know you all dream of it.
  9. I can almost guarantee Jin is still alive. Sun is going to get back to the island, and they will basically have changed identities. She will be the cold one with blood on her hands, and he's going to be the warm and compassionate one. I would be shocked if they don't go that route.
  10. Permadeath actually works to curb griefing (or just random killing) because most of the lamers wash out pretty quickly when they realize their uber character will get killed. Griefers tend to die...a lot. They make enemies, they misjudge a potential victim...they just don't last long.
  11. If there were consequences for death, maybe people would think twice before running headfirst into a random battle. Also running a way is always an option. People are just spoiled these days. Playing on permadeath NWN servers really made me play completely different. There was a tangible fear of any combat encounter. I knew in the early levels that every time I drew my sword I had a pretty good chance of getting killed. I was more cautious, and picked my fights very carefully. That is totally missing in most MMO's. Death is just a little road bump. At least having to do a corpse run makes you a bit more aware of your surroundings.
  12. Um, anyone else notice that Iceland's government just collapsed? Wow.
  13. I think you need to understand how different the loot system is in UO compared to a game like WoW. It isn't really a gear-centric game like WoW, it's focused on skills and building those skills. There also isn't some end game armor that you work for days to get. Nothing is really bound to the player, so you have a lot of good weapons and armor floating around. Sure, you might lose a good set of gear, but you probably have a few sets sitting in chests back at your house. In Asheron's Call, I used to always have two sets of armor on my character. When you died, you would need to go back and get your corpse to retrieve some of your armor. They were called corpse runs and they could be quite insane, but I loved them. I'd love an MMO with permadeath. It would just need to have a lot of low level content to keep me interested in re-leveling.
  14. UO had two types of shards (I think it was called) on every server. One shard was happy and carefree with flowers blooming and everyone working together for the greater good. The other shard was filled with angst ridden puppy kickers, had open PvP and you could actually pickpocket good stuff off people. It still is the most hardcore PvP game out there.
  15. Unfortunately console sales seem to be all that matters to publishers these days.
  16. Woo, good to be back! I'm really tired of Kate, she's super whiny. She needs to take a lesson from the new and improved Sun. Good episode overall though. Hurlie rocks.
  17. I've never understood why any companies bother trying to get their stuff pulled from Youtube. The quality is lousy and who the heck is going to watch an entire movie on that thing? It really is just free advertising, because if someone really wants to enjoy the show, they will end up buying it. I'm not quite sure what this has to do with DRM.
  18. Historically, has this ever worked before? The US is divided into states, but a national identity had to be established for it to stabilize. I'm just concerned down the road it would lead to a Euro Civil War. But that is pretty pessimistic.
  19. yeah, also Feline Aids is a big problem. Yeah, but that's because they share a lot of needles.
  20. People tend to get aggressive because: a. One side of the argument is pretty heavily influence by religion and uses that to justify inequality b. The other side sees it as discrimination in the same vein as what was done to minorities throughout history.
  21. My post doesn't assume either of those things. You are assuming that I am assuming. I also enjoy playing old games and listening to old music. But when I buy something I don't expect it to last forever, and now that I have a child I just count my lucky stars if it survives for a year. Here is a scenario to explain my viewpoint. I have the discs for King's Quest 5. It was one of my favorite games in my youth, I still have the big old box for it. But I have no desire to install it from those floppies. It would be a nightmare to get it to run even if I still had a floppy drive on my PC. So I subscribe to Gametap. I get Kings Quest 5 and it runs through the Gametap player, alleviating the issues I might run into with the OS. It has DRM, I don't own the game, I only get to play it as long as I subscribe to the service. This doesn't bother me in the least. Now Good Old Games is offering a different model, you play a flat fee and get the game DRM free. It is optimized to run under the current OS's. But in ten years, do you think the game will still run with new PC's and new OS's? It might, but there is no guarantee. So when I say DRM doesn't bother me because I don't expect my purchase to last forever, it is simply my experience with technology speaking. I think DRM has proven to be a waste of money for publishers over the last year, but I don't see it as some evil entity. That would be the pirates.
  22. I've been playing the heck out of this flash game. It's tough, sometimes you really get screwed on the novas. At least I'm winning a few matches now.
  23. Civilian National Security force doesn't sound anything like a Civilian police force, according to that speech. It sounds like civilians trying to "conduct renewable energy and environmental clean-up projects in their neighborhoods all across the country." You can read all you want into this stuff taks, but it really is coming across as paranoia.
  24. "Big stock losses. Recently I've been so frustrated I think only of killing someone or committing suicide," the posting reads. What the hell is wrong with people? Just kill yourself in peace, no need to drag others into your crap.
  25. That actually sounds fantastic. I saw a commercial for it this morning as well.
