I watched Harry Potter too. I agree with Aristes, the first two put me to sleep. But overall the last four have been decent. I think the problem is the first two were adapted from short books, and they put in everything, whereas the last four were long books, so they just took the crucial stuff for the movie. It's also fun watching the kids grow up, and luckily none of them turned out trollish.

I'm back home, so I've been playing LotRO a bit. My new house can only get satellite internet, so my latency is up in the 1500 range. Basically I do something, and I wait about a second and a half before it happens. Not unplayable, but a bit annoying. I'll be around though, so hopefully I'll catch up with y'all.

I'll wrap up the trip, but no more pictures. Day 16 - We drove through Reno to get to my uncle's house. Reno has really grown over the last 5 years or so, it's really a major city and has all the big chain stores. Reno 911 is going to have to find another town to lampoon if they keep growing like this. One thing that fascinated me when driving through Nevada is the brothels. I mean, I didn't stop in any obviously, but its the only state in the US that allows prostitution. I was surprised that there weren't more billboards though, I mean the casino signs are everywhere, but I imagine there are rules as to how blatant you can advertise for sex. Day 17 - We went out in the desert highlands in the morning, very beautiful. My Uncle's house is out pretty far in the desert, and I think next time we visit I'll try and learn to ride a dirt bike so I can explore the area more. We drove home from Reno and got there at about 8:30. The RV is a bit of a mess and we are out of clothes, so we are happy to be home. It was a great trip :D

It's a pretty amazing game, but it is not for everyone. Whereas most MMO's try and disguise the grind and treadmill effect of the genre, Vanguard embraces it full bore. You can create your own boat, but it will take you months to mold each piece and all that. Still, the scope of the game is epic. Huge world, with tons to do.

I don't care if you are reading a novel or a comic book, as long as you are reading I'm happy. I'm more concerned about the folks who get their entertainment solely from movies, TV, and video games.

The Shakespeare stuff sounds good, maybe when Skylar is older. Day 15 - We started the day off with a train trip from Virginia City to Gold City (which is not a city by any means.) It was a short ride, but my daughter was extremely excited to ride on a choo choo train. Then we went to an old school house that was in remarkably good shape. It was built in 1876 and was designed for over 1,000 students. It graduated its last class in 1936, which is when all the mines in Virginia City had started drying up and the town started to become another Ghost town. It was saved in large part due to the show "Bonanza" which was based on Virginia City (although shot in LA) and it raised tourism enough to restore the city. It's a fantastic place, we got to tour an old mine that was actually at the back of a saloon and an Opera house that was very impressive. Tomorrow we were planning on heading home, but we decided to stop off at a relative near Reno for the night. So one more day.

Twilight - Worst. Anne Rice - Bad, but not THAT bad. Harry Potter - Meh, nothing great but not as bad as the others. Every time I read the statistics about how many people become elective non-readers by the end of 12th grade, I throw up a little. So really, I'm happy about all three of these successful writers, because they have convinced people to sit down and read a book.

Because the "employer" is also the "government". They were actually talking about a company that enacted a non-smoking policy, I believe. But I fail to see what your point is with that. The "government" is still an employer.

I enjoyed Fallout 3, but it's a shame that every time I try to read up on one of these threads, they are filled with whiny posts about Bethesda. Seriously, it is time to move on TwinkieGorilla.

Have you played Fallout 3? Because I noticed that originally when I played Oblivion, I was ok with it, but when I tried to go back after F3, I really couldn't take all the terrible NPC's.

Anything that stimulates an entire generation of young people to pick up a book and read is awesome. So I'd probably say Anne Rice.

Day 14 - We had a very long drive through Nevada, and google maps also sent me down a closed road at one point, but we arrived in Virginia City. It is a very interesting place, the whole town is a historic landmark. It's a pretty amazing Old West town, and tomorrow I'm excited to explore it all. Our RV park is interesting, there is an odd mix of permanent residents and vacationers. They put us right next to the historic cemetery, this is literally the view out my back window.

That's not a very nice thing to say... Heh, my wife thought it was funny. I'm really not serious at all, I'm very happy to be weighed down :D

It's a little odd to create an account on a game developer's forum and start a thread on something fairly random, and not take part in any other discussions. Rosbjerg, thanks for the offer! Unfortunately I've got a wife and kid tied around my ankle like an anchor, and my days of staying on the couch of buddies is over. Plus I spent a lot on my RV and so I'm locked into that as my vacation means for now. Maybe when the kid (and whenever we pop out a second) are older we'll plan a Euro vacation.

Not true. Liquor is. That's arguable. There are many health benefits to having a glass of wine or a beer a few nights a week. One cigarette a night probably is going to be more positive than negative, but how many smokers limit themselves to one? It's a highly addictive substance, much more than alcohol. But hey, I already went into the fact that, yes, everything can be unhealthy. You chose to cut that out when you replied for some odd reason. Why are you so keen on justifying smoking here? It's a very unhealthy habit, that is not an opinion. Sure, argue that it is a personal freedom, I can understand that, but this health stuff just seems like living in denial. My sister was a smoker for a couple years. She was trying to kick crystal meth, and she found that cigarettes were addictive enough to help her get over the drugs. So there is a positive use of cigarettes for you.
