  1. I meant to say this in this last thread. I admire Hassat Hunter and his arguments. I don't agree with him on most points, but he is fully committed. I'm not trying to sound patronizing, I really do like his style. It's like crazy and logic got together and had a baby, and they named it Hassat Hunter.
  2. She made a fair amount of bad decisions, the worst being when she took out a second mortgage to save her business. But the market in our area is fairly sickening. A ton of properties are worth half of what they were being appraised at just 5 years ago. I'm not talking about a few thousand dollars either, these properties have dropped by hundreds of thousands of dollars. Her house was appraised at $875,000 in 2005, and it was sold at auction today for $375,000.
  3. My mother-in-law had her property foreclosed and apparently sold today. We have been living with her the last year in attempt to help her out, but she hasn't been able to pay the mortgage for quite a few months. Still, we were under the impression that it was going to take a good deal longer to complete the foreclosure. She has a lawyer working on it, and they have filed an official complaint with the government and will be working at reversing it. The guy who bought the property at auction showed up and wants to rent the property to her. That might be a decent way to go, but hopefully the lawyers will find a way to nullify it.
  4. Reamred sounds fairly frightening, I'd hate to see what he is doing with that bionic arm to achieve that.
  5. I never understood why Volourn was the way he is until I read some of the stuff on RPG Codex. Everyone here is fairly patient with him, sure we all have our moments of frustration, but no no is really attacking him. That is far from true on the Codex, those guys really bully him. I found it hard to read. But it has clearly made him a very defensive person. But really, Volourn is taking us away from the discussion on NWN, which is what this thread is all about. I am enjoying the Let's Play. I've already stated that I enjoyed NWN, despite it being a butt ugly game. I'm also a bit surprised no one went in and fixed the graphics for the OC, but I suppose no one felt it was worth their time. There are so many NWN modules that really make the graphics work, they are nearly unrecognizable compared to the OC.
  6. The problem I have is that they control a huge chunk of local sports broadcasting. They have contractual disputes with providers like directv and dish on a regular basis. That means I don't get to watch local sports teams. Now that they control nbc, they can really put the screws to other providers. Foreseeably this can cause problems with what programming is offered online, as well.
  7. Comcast handles a lot more than cable.
  8. Comcast is already screwing me over with its contract disputes with DISH network.
  9. I don't even like IWD, and I enjoyed nwn as a whole more than the BG series. But handrawn artwork trumps bad polygons in my book anyday. But Volo is just being argumentative. As was already stated, this is all in the eye of the beholder. My statemt was clearly an opinion, and volo felt the need to rush in and troll it because he is insecure about nwn and feels everyone here is out to get him. Which we are, of course!
  10. One thing is for sure, NWN has not aged well. It is an ugly looking game. I know some mods made it look much nicer, but dang. In my eyes, BG and IWD have aged a heck of a lot better than NWN in terms of graphics.
  11. Today I read the Game Informer article while in the bathroom, and I got really interested in it, and so when I finished I said to myself, 'Self, this would be a good time to finish up that Oblivion game that I keep losing interest in.' So I got out the CD, and I put it in, but then the launcher came up and I grew bored immediately. So I decided to post here instead of playing.
  12. http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/VictorGont/...s_Marketing.php I don't think it was naivety, I believe he was subtly pointing out that an M-rated game is not supposed to be targeting adolescent teens with their marketing. His whole article is how some games, and their advertising campaigns, aggressively retard the maturation of the game industry. I hope we can all agree that the Dead Space 2 campaign of "Your mom hates our game" is one of the dumbest marketing ploys ever. Are there really even adolescents who that appeals to? It's a survival horror game. I don't remember Saw or even Friday the 13th ever having such a stupid marketing campaign.
  13. I'm not quite sure what you are going for with that statement, but it came across as pretty douchy. If I lose all the data on my computer, it is still a messed up situation, even though it is not a tangible thing I have lost. Virtual goods in a game are the same thing, they have a value, they represent and investment of time, and it sucks when they are lost.
  14. Temple of Elemental Evil - The thread here inspired me to play it, and I actually have gotten farther than I have in the past (without cheating, at least.) It is amazing that this game was done by the same people who did Arcanum, it is really a terrible job of story and pacing. I think the worst part is the first dungeon (moathouse) is extremely difficult. XP is fairly limited, so when you arrive at the dungeon, you will likely be underpowered. If you manage to survive and clear it out, the village you just saved barely acknowledges it. It felt rather pointless. The loot is pretty weak too! Ah well, the combat engine is still phenomenal.
  15. Europe isn't really a continent anyways. I don't even think it's a real place, it's like never never land.
  16. The Rhine seems to me to be a bit too much to the West to be a valid limit between western and eastern Europe. Former DDR, former Tchekoslovakia, Hungaria, Rumania are in central Europe. After that you can think about considering eastern Europe. But even there, like in some parts of Poland, this is still very central european. You can sum up things by just considering that : - Western Europe is the part of Europe where countries consider that the invasions come from the East. - Eastern Europe is the part of Europe where countries consider that the invasions come from the West. - Central Europe is the part of Europe where countries consider that the invasions come from the West and the East. Of course, Central Europe suffered a lot more. There really isn't a right or wrong answer here, all I'm saying is those are all political delineations that have not existed all that long. The Rhine and the Danube marked the eastern border of the Roman Empire. For centuries it was a very clear divider between the Roman civilization and barbarian masses.
  17. Ok? Are you saying Russia is culturally an Asian country?
  18. Eastern and Western Europe haven't exactly been clearly defined throughout history. The Rhine and the Danube was really the most logical border between east and west, and it is only recently that it became a political division with the Iron Curtain. edit: Sorophx, 78% of the population of Russia lives in the designated European area. It is referred to as Eurasia, if we want to be technical.
  19. I'm pretty sure he assumed we meant the cleaning industry acronym for Need Sanitation Freon Wipes.
  20. AP and NV were just so different. Sure, they both have great stories, characters, and C&C, but the scale and scope is different
  21. Seconded. I played a couple of them, but this was the only one that felt like it expanded on the story as a whole, rather than just being a side mission.
  22. This surprises you? Krezack is our resident bohemian
  23. There are a couple issues with this line of thinking. First off, DA is a complete game, without any of the DLC (even the free stuff.) You can play it all the way to the conclusion, they don't ask you to insert more coins to continue the story line. There was likely a specific team working on DLC. This isn't any different than a specific team working on an expansion. The difference is DLC is typically smaller, available faster, cheaper, etc. It can be offered on day one while an expansion obviously would not. Whether it was created after the game was released or not really isn't the point, it was developed to be DLC.
  24. I didn't necessarily care that they had DLC content ready at release for DA. I did not like the way they handled it though, by having a guy show up in your camp telling you about an exciting adventure, and then asking for your credit card. ME2 handled it way better.
  25. How does "Protesting killing" (which is basically what they're attempting to do I believe... the military protests and such are protesting the taking of lives and not living by the strictest code of the bible) fall under "satanist"? They're not protesting killing, they believe it's good that our soldiers are dying because US allows homosexuality. They also believe that it's good that a small child was killed for the same reason. They also try to add as much as they can to the anguish of the families of the fallen. So if they believe their deity approves of them, their deity must be Satan. That made a surprising amount of sense. I would definitely say these folks fail to grasp the teachings of Jesus in any way.
