  1. Yes, that happened to me, but before I installed the patch. On my second play through I fought for about 15 minutes before hitting the trigger, and wondered why it wasn't working properly. I believe that this could be a useful level up tool, as long as you stay away from the trigger and just keep fighting. stoffe -mkb-, 8 times you say? I think I'll have to try that.
  2. I use a GeForce MX 440 (until I can afford a better card), and the only problems I have are that I cannot use force sight (frame buffer effects not supported), and extreme slowdown in the Telos mines (The chamber of hot gas. Framerate drop there is not fun).
  3. When I race, many of the boost platforms on the track don't register that I've gone over them. I could beat the Telos time IF they would register hits, but most of the time I simply pass over the speed boost without gaining any speed. It's pretty annoying, since it means I can't win the swoop races no matter what I do, but at least it doesn't really affect the game (unless there is a swoop racing quest that nets you some goodies that I haven't heard about because I have avoided spoilers).
  4. I can't help with your display problem, but I would suggest that the next time you reinstall a game that you back up the save game files. Just dig around in the KotOR 2 folder, you can't miss them.
  5. I think that one thing people should remember, is that Obsidian is looking into the possibility of getting a "community manager" (see closure announcement). They don't want to upset their customers, but there are always more complicated issues than what we (people very far away, and unaware of the specific situation within the company) can see from our spot in front of our computers. I doubt that the developers had any intention of causing problems for Kotor 2 players. I am cynical about people, but I'm not that cynical, especially when you take into account that as a video game developer, Obsidian requires gamers to support them. I think the biggest problem they are having is simply the constant inflow of pointless complaints, such as "I hate this game," or "Obsidian sucks," and other such nonsense that "disrupt discussion" (see closure announcement). If people want to complain about the game, then make your own forum and complain there. Obsidian, before the forum is closed, and if anyone reads this by then, I want to say something specifically to the developers of KotOR 2. I think you did a great job with the game. The story is great, and the gameplay is great. I have had some problems with the game, but nothing that made it unplayable, and nothing that I couldn't fix myself with a quick reload. Anyway, I enjoy KotOR 2 very much, and am greatful for the effort put into the game thus far. If KotOR 3 comes to fruition, and you are the developers, I will buy it.
  6. I just posted in another thread about a problem similar to this. (I was on Telos at the time) http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?showtopic=31261 Basically I've discovered that my stats have been reset and it made the enemies practically invincible, which is not good. I would advise that you go to the character sheet and check your attributes when this happens and see if they are all 8 or something like that.
  7. I don't think that this bug of reassigning values is restricted to the character alignment. I was around level 10, as a Jedi Guardian and in a fight that was extremely difficult for some reason, and I have already been through the game once and knew what to expect. I was missing with almost every attack, and taking obscene amounts of damage. I got the level up and when I went to level up I saw that all of my attributes had been reset to 8, and my skills had been set to zero, and to top it off, my vitality and force points were practically nothing. I saved the game and reloaded to find that the problem had been fixed by restarting the game, but that was the hardest battle I had ever fought in Kotor. I think that when they do the patch that they should check into this. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, because I don't have a lot of time to check the boards, but I thought I would mention it since the problem seems to fit with the previous post. In general, values are being reset and this is causing problems with numerous aspects of gameplay.
  8. I would like to see a fix for the force sight ability, so those of use who haven't had the chance to upgrade our video cards in awhile, because we have spent our money on education, can at least use the power without frame buffer effects. I don't really see how it could be that hard, and I think this sort of oversight is simply sloppy. I love the game, but I was looking forward to that power. I suppose I can wait until the summer when I can afford to get a new Video Card, but I would rather not. My system meets/passes all of the recommended specs except for the video card, so you can imagine that this annoys me.
  9. Do you mean fast dialogue as in it skips sections of the dialogue so that you click an option and your next line comes up without playing the response? That has happened to me on occasion (in both KotORs) and I have found that in K2 it sometimes fixes itself in the following conversation. Most of the time I find it best to restart the game, and then the problem is solved (at least for me). It also only happens once in a while, so I don't have any real problem with it. It would still be nice if this were addressed in a patch.
  10. I'm just going to hit the "check for updates button" (or equivalent) before I play, and if there is nothing I will venture forth into the abyss and hope my PC doesn't die.
  11. I don't have a solution. I'm just here to say that I had the same problem on two play-throughs. I've only ever gotten it to work twice. So out of 4 times trying to get the peaceful solution I've managed to get it half the time. Sometimes it's just stupid about it.
  12. I would like an item/face creation system that would allow us to develop our own items/faces, using texture templates and a system similar to attribute points, that could put the items into the game at the beginning, or put them in a shop (randomly/users choice options would be great). If the game came with texture templates for each item/face we could customize the look of the objects as well as the stats of items without requiring someone to hack the game. The ability to use custom models would be perfect, but I don't think that would happen (I only mention it because it would be a great option). With this system users could create items with unique abilities and distribute them without actually modding or overpowering the game. I really don't think Lucasarts will go for this, but it'll happen anyway, so why not include this limited modding ability from the start. It's not like these items will change the story. > Create Model/Texture > Open stat editor and spend points to create item attributes and determine positive and negative special abilities (ex. A very powerful blaster that has the potential to misfire and injure the user) > Choose Where it shows up in the game (start/random shop/choice shop/randomly on enemies/on a specific enemy) > Save, and enjoy the game. Ideally this option would require someone to finish the game lightside and darkside (neutral as well if that option is included), for either gender to unlock the editor.
  13. I think Maria is probably more intelligent than you think. I believe that the rolled eyes and the bold "back that claim up" part of the post are signals that there is some intention of sarcasm/humour. I hope I'm not just getting invovled in something that all of you know is obviously a joke, but the way this thread is going is just sad.
  14. The way I see it, the few people left on the K2 project could put in one or two really good extras (don't have to be extravegant) and let everyone know THEY made them. I know that they need permission, and it would have to be done when they're not fixing bugs, but it would appease the masses op PC players that are waiting. It's actually good for me that K2 dosn't come out for PC until February. If it came out this week it would interfere with final exams, and it would be pretty pathetic if my grades dropped. Just a bright side for all of the other University level KotOR fans. I'm still hoping for a more polished game, and one or two extras.
  15. If FMVs are done properly then they greatly enhance gameplay. I loved the way they were used in FFVIII, FFX, and FFX-2. They told the story with a dazzling bit of video to reward the player for getting to a certain spot right before they were slaughtered by some vicious boss. I would say that the time balanced out pretty well in those games. I don't need to have non-stop gaming action to be happy, that's why I play Dynasty Warriors, and other fast-paced games. For me the story of an RPG is more important than how long you get to press buttons until you find out the next part of the story. The story is part of the gameplay.
  16. Here is some purpose: Do not include what the spoiler is in the name of the thread. Is that better? I thought it might be a useful tip that everyone would have the common sense to think of anyway, but who knows with all of the new people that will enter the forums there is bound to be some trouble. There are probably going to be people who intentionally try to ruin the story for others, but they would not care about the above tip.
  17. This might be due to shipping at the last minute. According to some people on the Lucasarts forums thay had "acquired" Battlefront before the release date. This is of course illegal, so maybe Lucasarts decided that they would hold back the shipment until the last possible moment in an effort to prevent this. I could be wrong, but from what I know/have heard this explanation is as good as any.
  18. I think that it's about time that the USA picked a name for their country. Canada did (I think it means village) and so did Mexico. Now that it's been established that those Particular states of North America are united, and they won't get Canada and Mexico unless they annex them, they should settle upon a real name. That way people won't get confused. (This is a joke, so don't go nuts. I debated this in school once) Anyway, on topic. Good to hear that you got your game. I use a PC, so I won't be seeing it until February.
  19. If I had heard prior to playing K1 that I was Revan, Dark Lord of the Sith, I probably wouldn't have felt the "You've got to be kidding, a perfect lightside goody-two-shoes like me," feeling. It wouldn't have spoiled the game, but I wouldn't have kicked myself for not pinning it down before hand (I knew there was a reason why Vrook didn't like me, and everything pointed to it). I still want to find most of the surprises from the game on my own, so I will try to read wisely, but I don't think that I'll give up on the forums. I won't mind reading first-hand accounts about the better feats, powers, sabers/stances, etc while I wait, I just don't want to hear the major plot twists.
  20. I think some people just want to pretend that they're one of Corran Horn's very ancient ancestors. Anyway, I like having a lot of colours. It wouldn't matter if we only got blue, green, and red, but it does allow for more personality. I'll go for a silver saber once I get the chance.
  21. For those of you who don't like the darker game: keep your chin up. The Republic wins no matter what you do. It's just a metter of time, and it might mean that the New Republic is really the Newest Republic, or the New New Republic. I like the darker theme because it is more conducive to a genuinely suspenseful game. The best Star Wars game I've seen that uses a dark theme is Bounty Hunter when you reach the moon of Bogden, and have to fight the Bando Gora. It was done very well, and kept me on my toes. I like that in a game.
  22. The spice is there, but it is not one of the most important minerals in the galaxy. It is a highly addictive drug that makes you believe you can use the force. In Dune, doesn't the spice make it so that they are able to use hyperspace or something (I've only seen the movies)? That is pretty similar. As a point of note: the spice in the Star Wars movies is only referenced once by C3PO when he is whining that he and R2 could be sent to the spice mines of Kessel (I think, but I haven't seen the Original Trilogy in awhile). It is only really expanded upon in the books.
  23. Spiderman 2 is playable after you finish the game. I rented it and beat it in a day and a half, so I just did the optional challenges and searched for the clue markers. I got the last swing speed upgrade and then had nothing to do except the challenges. It was cool at first, but it got boring after awhile. I finally climbed to the top of the highest building and jumped off to have some fun by shooting a web line at the last minute. The point is, although the extra play time can be cool, it needs to have a final ending of some kind to wrap things up. Otherwise it just gets boring.
