I think MAD was the only thing keeping things from escalating into another world war, at least two or three times, notably Vietnam and Korea, although MacArthur wanted to use the bomb himself. Thank god he never got to be president. And on the other hand in the Cuban missile crisis the weapons themselves were the catalyst for the near war.

There was a blackout a week ago and I momentarily wondered if I had gone blind, or if this was the afterlife. Stubbed my toe the same place two times looking for some source of light. I think it's pretty sad that you have come to regard them as a kind of second class citizen (illegal citizen, but the distinction is not important). Whether you like it or not they live and work for decades in the US, part of its economy and its demographic, but without political representation because they don't vote. Given the high birth rate of Hispanic families there might well be more of 'them' than there are of 'you', in specific states. That kind of situation tends to necessitate political change.
