  1. Interestingly, GOG have now clearly stated in no uncertain terms they "want to be the number 1 competitor to Steam". Awesome.
  2. I forgive them already! Sweeeeeeeeet. Source with screenshots: http://www.neoseeker.com/news/14952-good-o...h-baldurs-gate/
  3. It's not just a Nordic thing. Come on, you live here in Australia too. Try telling an Aussie not to say "****" or "****" and he'll tell you exactly where to shove it. And rightly so.
  4. ****, so it's a marketing stunt? It will work. Bit tasteless, but it will work. As long as I can download my games... And please don't die, GOG. EDIT: Want to know why this marketing stunt will work? Take a look at this thread.
  5. My point is merely that it CAN be as simple as I suggest to reward the player. It doesn't have to involve heavy scripting, massive art resources, complex tools. It is possible to add detail that keep people talking about your game for years to come just by using a little ingenuity. I completely agree with you that it's important to reward the player in such a way, but in this next-gen world we have to do it in a way that looks good or else we get people going "OMGZ Obsidian r N00bs the playurs r walking thru teh vines!!!111" As you can see from the screenshots and trailer we've stepped up our game on the art side of things, but there's no point in having better art if it doesn't accentuate the design. A pretty game that isn't fun isn't a good game. So we have to come up with systems that still reward the player in a fun way, look good and make sense with the three T's in mind. The astute ones here should take a minute to not just think about what I'm saying it, but why we know so much about this subject. Some people will ALWAYS complained about SOMETHING. What you are doing won't stop that in any way.
  6. Community IS awesome, you are right.
  7. Anyone who understands what the mutt is really saying. A parrot is someone repeating stuff without reflecting upon it. How "two tour vet" or reading foreign papers would have any relevance to this is beyond me. I would probably care about the second part of the sentence if I didn't realize I was replying to a guy who'll **** his pants if I folded a piece of paper the wrong way. This post is absolutely impossible to understand while stoned.
  8. The US does make the occasional entertaining show. E.g. How I Met Your Mother, Seinfeld. Actually that may be the extent of funny American shows.
  9. Oh man, you and Gromnir sound like my boss. She was like "If you leave uni you'll never go back and you'll be stuck in a dead-end job like me." That's not how I work. Being content in a dead-end job is not and never will be me. But it's good to have people reminding me of that, so thanks.
  10. I see the tea party as the rights answer to the left-wing groups such as the various green/enviromental/animal/socialist/anti-war movements. It's only a natural progression as the right saw the left take more power through these groups. What a bogus answer. Economic libertarianism (purist laissez-faire) is the ideology in question here and it has persisted in America for decades (though luckily it has not spread to the rest of the world in any significant manner). It is not new, and the fact that it is now called the 'Tea Party' movement does not make it a new phenomena.
  11. 1 trillion dollars less government debt every decade is "nothing"? How economically responsible of you. I'd rather pay a trillion for defense than for social programs and other such bull****. I'm sure you would rather waste money on inefficiency in government beaurocracy (because whether you have sufficient reading comprehension skills to notice or not, that's what this thread is about) than spend it funding schools, the police force, healthcare, roads, and other such unneccessary "bull****". Your fellow citizens have to honestly thank whatever deity they believe in that a fool like you won't be the one making these decisions... at least till another war monger president like George Bush gets into power.
  12. The reason I used that specific example is because it's been done already. In Gothic 2 from 2002. And yes, the only way to find the place was to brush up against the wall and walk through the vines (unless you'd found the guy who'd given you the right clue, but that's another matter). It did look right just walking through them, but then again.. it was 2002, the year of the immobile vines. My point is merely that it CAN be as simple as I suggest to reward the player. It doesn't have to involve heavy scripting, massive art resources, complex tools. It is possible to add detail that keep people talking about your game for years to come just by using a little ingenuity. Well said!
  13. Defence receives apology after scathing report Thanks for that, very insightful! 1 trillion dollars less government debt every decade is "nothing"? How economically responsible of you.
  14. I'm sure he'll receive a pardon from the next president.
  15. This thread just reminded me of a recent analysis of the efficiency of defence spending for the world's 33 largest armies. It did not paint a pretty picture of Australian and American defence spending at all. No mention of where Britain fell. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/politics/a...f-1225843035413
  16. Wals, I argue the same thing to my Australian mates who suggest Aussies don't need an army because our allies in Europe and America will defend us. It's a ludicrous notion if only because you guys are exactly on the other side of the world and our potential enemies are next door. That said, Monte's suggestions for modernising the military seem sound.
  17. I interpreted is as a yes since he threw in that managment to allow fast changes went into the design process of Onyx which in turn allows for a much more detailed world. So, why wouldn't there be? But will there be secret passages?
  18. Its location would still be a secret. Its contents would still be a secret. I would contend that the passage itself would still be secret.
  19. I've just talked to Nathaniel and Alvin. They want to get that in the Collector's Edition but for now there's no confirmation. This is heartening to hear.
  20. I don't understand how countries can have such high levels of public debt (anything above 20% of GDP).
