  1. Good haircut.
  2. Juliet (Richardson)
  3. Today I picked a bunch of daisy flowers and ate them. Those are edible and extremely tasty
  4. I just couldn't stay indoors on such a particularly beautiful autumn day so I went for a walk and tried to capture some of natures beauty with my camera. And some shrooms I couldn't identify even though I have a comprehensive fungi guide.
  5. Damn, those poor feet. I'm perfectly fine with women wearing comfortable sneakers, I really am.
  6. Working on Saturdays is a goddamn sin.
  7. Took a few pics when I was cycling today: Castle ''Klam'', a nice example of good old Austrian architecture. Built in the 12th century as far as I can remember. Country road, take me home..... Castle ''Klingenstein''. A ruin, but a big one. A bit blurry, I know.
  8. Went cycling to enjoy the last (according to the weather forecast) warm day this year with the goal being riding to a beautiful upland moor. It didn't go as planned. Tried a new cycling route which turned out to be extremely painful, 50 kilometers uphill almost all the time. The downhill sections were very fast and extremely short and then usually a very steep seemingly never ending uphill section followed. This describes 90% of the route. As if hauling my arse uphill all the time wasn't enough I got lost and made a long detour. A 40km long detour. So thats 90 kilometers total. And it got worse, thanks to my super crappy bicycle saddle I developed a blister on my butt during the first 1/3 of the route which made riding my bike over the damaged tarmac of typical country roads absolutely wonderful. I'm so dead now, I can hardly lift my fingers to type.
  9. Back in the days when Wals was a kid there where hundreds of rapier and muzzleloader pistol duels happening in the streets. To restore honor and that kind of stuff. Good old days.
  10. I guess it needs two guns because the anti aircraft cannons had multiple barrels. Heat. With two guns you can cut the firing rate in half for each gun and you get less barrel heat that totally screws up your accuracy while pumping as much lead downrange as a single cannon that overheats in no time at all. There is also less barrel wear. I imagine you can also use different ammunition in each gun, like API in one gun and HE in the other one. I thought the launcher thingy is actually the rocket launcher thingy. Its a mortar?
  11. Yep, I shoot muzzleloaders and I totally know what you mean, one shot and the barrel looks like a dirty chimney. Thank gods modern powder is much cleaner, modern powder combustion rate is around 98-99.5%. But it also has to do a lot with pressure, if you raise the pressure even blackpowder burns a lot cleaner. This can be seen in blackpowder cartridges which create more pressure than BP muzzleloaders.
  12. I like the BMP-3 but the BMPT has two 30mm guns, two more rockets, better armor and modern electronics aiming soft&hardware?
  13. You're correct. I guess I'm too tired to think straight. If nearly 70% of energy is lost regular powder is almost as inefficient as gasoline. Wow.
  14. True, they usually only cause a series of small comparatively harmless explosions approx. an hour after ingestion.
  15. A video I found about the new Russian tank assist vehicle, BMPT. I have to say, its pretty damn badass and while I'm not an expert in these things I'd say its combat value is much higher than those of main battle tanks. Its way more compact, the machinecannon rounds can cover a large area with deadly shrapnel, more rounds can be fired and more targets dispatched before dust blocks the view, more targets can be destroyed because the tank carries hell of a lot more ammo than a usual battle tank, it might be effective against low altitude aircraft and the rockets seem to be powerful enough to destroy armored vehicles/buildings heavy cover. Sounds like a win/win situation to me.
  16. There is no energy loss, that data is from a fixed test barrel. So its true, my breakfast has more energy than a couple of tank shells. Thats kind of disturbing.
  17. Wait a second, my ballistics program shows me the specific explosion temperature in KJ per Kg of powder, that would be what you're looking for I guess. For example, lets take Lovex S060 stick powder which is used in a lot of 7.62x39 rounds, it has a specific expl. temp. of 3880 KJ / Kg. 1 Kilogram = 15432 grains. Therefore one grain of powder creates 0,25 KJ of energy. A 7.62x39 round would be loaded with approx. 30 grains of that powder, thats 7,5 KJ. Still way short of 300 Kj. Even a .50 BMG round which contains 180 grains of powder with a similar energy would only give you about 45KJ. 300KJ would probably the equivalent of the powder charge of one of the 30mm rounds the GAU-8 fires. Thats very interesting. Though I still don't know if the guy simply means the muzzle energy of a rifle round or the energy the powder charge itself contains. You know, the heat it creates when it burns in KJ.
  18. Thats quite an...unusual question; I can calculate the muzzle energy of those rounds in joules, but would that be the same joules as in food joules? Thats the question.... Any physicists here? Lets pretend they're the same unit (I just hope I don't embarrass myself here) 7.62 x39 = 125 grains @ 2400 fps = 1598 ft/lbs = 2166 Joules = 2.16 Kj .50 AE = 300 grains @ 1550 fps = 1600 ft/lbs = 2200 Joules = 2.20 Kj Thats WAY less than 300 KJ, even with a 20x110mm anti aircraft machinecannon round you only get about 57 KJ, 300 would probably be the energy of a main battle tank round. If its about the energy the powder charge itself contains, well, I have no freaking idea. The problem is powder varies a lot, you'd have to specify what powder is being used in that round. Its impossible to say. In a nutshell: Wals, stop making ridiculous bets while being high on absinthe.
  19. Thats cool, I was born in Linz, too, and lived there until I was 14. Give her my regards and an imaginary Linzertorte. To be more specific about the pic, it was taken near the town Molln.
  20. Rush. What a marvelous movie, excellent oscar-worthy acting by Hemsworth and Brühl, most realistic racing scenes I've ever seen outside real races and Niki Laudas accident scene plus the painful aftermath in the hospital made me shed a manly tear. The director also managed to make the entire film thrilling and interesting, which is a quite a feat for a film thats mainly about racing. (all the previous racing movies I've seen just royally sucked) Being a fan of the old F1 days and an Austrian made my movie experience all the sweeter.
  21. Where was this one taken? Austrian national park ''Kalkalpen'', why?
  22. Weizenbier rocks, I don't always like beers with an overly bitter (yeast) taste to them either, from the ten or so brands of wheat beer I tried Löwenbräu Weizen is my favorite one. I guess thats why I like Faxe, its also very ''sweet'' even though its not a wheat beer. Löwenbräu Weissbier:
  23. Yeah, I feel great, no hangover and my liver seems to be working properly. By the way, I was drinking Danish lager, from all the gazillion beer brands Faxe is by far the tastiest. (and the hardest to get around here, sadly)
  24. Yesterday night I drank lots of beer, then I remembered that I took some heavy painkillers because of my ear infection. The alcohol amplified the painkillers a lot, I could pinch myself without feeling anything, thats when I started to worry. Pretty scary, I hope I didn't trash my liver.
  25. ^ Is it just me or is Maynards voice getting deeper and deeper? Its like with Trent Reznor.
