  1. This is so random its funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U705_E8gc0Y
  2. IMO its just as much of a leap as all the other theories we currently have about time, death and reality. Its all equally abstract. Thats what he said, he said that the consciousness of an observing person changes the behavior of the particle.
  3. Interesting theory about death being merely an illusion and life/consciousness creating the universe not the other way around using quantum mechanics.
  4. Track that plays to one of the most painful scenes in movie history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xf9gTA35yb4
  5. Strange, I've always thought you'd strictly err on the short side I've been tired of always having the same short haircut and felt the need to celebrate that I'm turning 25 in three weeks and still not losing hair so I swore an oath to grow my hair and not cut it short (Just trim maybe) till Dragon Age 3 (took a random date) is released end of the coming year. Something like this would be nice, need another 5 months for that I guess.
  6. Keep the blister moist (with skin lotions), that way its heals quicker and hurts less. What I did today:...or what my hair did today. My hair has reached this awful length where its too short to be long and too long to be short. It just looks messy. I can't wait till it grows another 15cm, too bad that will take a year or so. Blergh...where is my baseball cap...
  7. Don't worry, I get Terminator jokes all the time from friends and members in other forums. I could see the Alps really well when the sun set, had to take a photo. Its a bit blurry because my camera sucks in low light conditions but here it is: (I totally need to go climbing again)
  8. 127 hours. Good movie, actually quit deep, emotional and slow-paced at times, definitely not for those who require action a'la the expendables every few seconds to feel entertained. Beautiful scenery, powerful pictures, very good acting. It also features one of the most gruesome and graphic scenes I've ever seen on TV. No joke. 7.5/10 Oh, and now I'm gonna buy a 25 cm sawback knife and never go hiking again without having it in my backpack. Ever.
  9. You need to immediately see a doc, he'll give you painkillers via injection which is absolutely necessary because back pain can turn into a permanent problem even when you've just pinched a nerve. A couple of years ago I had a biking accident and had severe pack pain from a pinched nerve, the pain gradually increased to a point where my legs were affected as well and I couldn't find any sleeping position that didn't hurt horribly. It took three weeks till the pain decreased to a level where I could sit, walk and sleep again. Hot showers and painkillers barely helped at all. Go to a good doc before it gets worse. What I did today: I just made a quick sketch for a friend of mine who works on those big industrial lathes, he'll make me this:
  10. Me too, that thing has no suspension and the wheel base is tiny. That in combination with a monstrous amount of torque from the modified diesel.
  11. I have a full time job but I've always found time for my 70 minute workout 5 days a week with 8 hours of sleep. Those who don't have 70 minutes of free time per day are doing something very wrong and should either get better at scheduling their days or change their unhealthy lifestyle. The only excuse I accept are parents with newborns.
  12. Take your blasted reality and go away. What does your insurance company say to that?
  13. I've been exercising rigorously 5 times a week (70 minutes/day) for 7 years - cycling not included- because thats how my 5 day split works, and that used to be a problem, it took my body ~2 years to adjust to the almost daily strain. When I started with my 5 day split I was completely WRECKED after lifting, now I'm not even getting tired and I can go to work etc. after having lifted a total of almost eight thousand kilograms in one hour. Your body simply needs to expand its energy storage which seems to be a slow process, sadly, but it comes in very handy not just in weight lifting but also in extreme hikes, mountain climbs and wild parties. The downside is on off days I can't sleep due to excessive energy. I'm absolutely sure most determined people could do a 5 day split. Having all the necessary weights at home helps big time though, I would not drive to the gym and back 5 days / week Ugh, I would have to look for sources, that Crossfit is highly dangerous for your body is the general consensus amongst the semi-professional and professional weight lifters all around the world but I don't know if there is any article about that. I can assure you, if it was that fun and easy to build muscle and keep fit all the professionals would not sit around in dreary gyms doing dumbbell isolations, myself included. The main problem with Crossfit is they took normal weight lifting exercises and bastardized them, most of the times far too heavy weights are used, so to lift them you have to use a very bad awkward form and you have to jerk it. You don't have to be a genius to figure out what this means to your joints and back. Think of your back as a carbon fiber suspension bar from an F1 car, it can withstand enormous amounts of stress from the bumpy road, curbs and the down force, but a little bump from another F1 car and it breaks to pieces because it was not designed to withstand sudden lateral forces. Thats why form is so important when using heavy weights. Another problem is most of the times far too less or far too many reps are used, some CF exercises consist of 50 reps of very light weights etc., while not potentially dangerous doing so many reps is just totally nonsensical. Doing 3 reps with very heavy weights and bad form however is not just very dangerous but also useless. There is a reason why we weight lifters pay so much attention to form and don't jerk weights, and why we increase weights so carefully. The body has to adjust to the weight and the muscles need a specific amount of reps to grow, and all that only happens when proper form is used. In a nutshell: Use time-proven weight lifting exercises that have been used for thousands of years, gradually increase the weight, make smooth reps and never jerk the weight, keep your rep range in the 6-10 area and you will see improvement without wrecking your limbs and back. Crossfit is pretty much the opposite. Its just the biggest fraud and rip-off ever, you know what they do to promote it? They pay professional weight lifters serious money to participate in competitions so everyone thinks you can get that big and strong with fun flashy Crossfit. And the membership fee in Crossfit gyms is a joke, too. I wish it would work, I'd totally do it if it worked because it seems to be way more fun that normal lifting. But it doesn't.
  14. Thats why Crossfit is so popular, its a combination of weight lifting, circuit training and sport games. The idea of making fitness more fun and appealing for the masses is a great one, the problem is Crossfit just doesn't work; its highly ineffective in building muscle and dangerous for the joints. I totally agree with what they said. But ''fun'' in exercise is rather easy to achieve, once you feel the positive changes from proper exercise you will have fun while lifting.
  15. I have a fireplace too but I'm too afraid to use it when asleep, if there goes something wrong my bedroom would turn into a gas chamber. I want to die a glorious death in battle while protecting my friends and loved ones from an infantry squad of evil robots with my trustiest rifle in my hands, not getting gassed to death in my sleep.
  16. The storm from Germany has finally arrived in Austria, and it is hitting us hard, just had a 60 minute blackout and it was....beautiful and frightening at the same time. I looked out of the windows and I could not see a single artificial light source on the horizon, no street lights, nothing, just a grey, storm ridden landscape and an overcast sky with fast moving clouds dimly lit by by a small moon. I lit two candles and read a book which I enjoyed a lot, a pity that the power was back so quickly. Frightening because once you're in a blackout you realize that electricity is everything. Nothing works without, you can't even see without it during the night and you take it for granted. I can imagine that without electricity society would break down in a couple of weeks because absolutely everything works with electricity. Your freezer. Communications. Light. Gas pumps. Furnaces. Food production ...and so on. And now I'm glad I have a wood stove and lots of firewood. Don't need no electricity to keep me warm.
  17. Don't elderly Californians reach their peak mortality rate mid-summer? Here in Austria a lot more people died during the hot summer days than in winter. High temperatures are way more dangerous than low temperatures if you suffer from high blood pressure and a weak heart., like most old people do. What I did today: I reloaded some .45-90's today, with self-cast 500 grain LEE hard cast bullets.
  18. A friend of mine is a huge Ghoultown fan and I like them too. That song live at the first row was really awesome.
  19. I could never be bored while struggling with a 80kg barbell during shoulder presses our 140 kg shrugs. ''Man, that weight is absolutely killing me and I really have to be careful not to lose my grip and bash my head in with the barbell but man, am I bored''. Nope. I also find being able to lift those weights way too cool to be bored. About cycling, yeah, I loathe my stationary bike but I'm currently investigating a way to use special winter tires on my bike so I can drive on slightly-snowy roads without killing myself. The temperature itself is not a problem since there are special clothes available for biking in cold weather. Think of the tight fitting suits Olympic ski drivers use in the TV. (Though I'd recommend avoiding cycling in temperatures below minus 10 Celsius, its not very healthy for your lungs and throat. )
  20. Went to a 3-hour long presentation about Mars where People from ESA in co-work with NASA showed us and talked about everything there is to know about the red planet including exclusive not-yet released 3D pictures and scans from the Mars Science Lab rover. Including informations about plans for manned missions. They discussed why they want to send people to Mars, its not just a PR gag like the manned moon missions to prove that we can do it, they have found several deep strangely collapsed craters where they suspect a complex cavern system underneath. There are also river bed like marks on the surface directly leading into the craters. If there ever was life on this planet thats the best place to look for, a place safe from the deadly UV radiation with a water source. The planet lost his atmosphere pretty early, many scientists think that life could have survived a long time underneath the surface in caves. Manned missions because you need people to climb in there, no robot can do that. They also told us that Austria is one of the four countries that is developing a mars exploration suit (which is currently tested in Morocco, Sahara to simulate Mars conditions) and investigate ways to get men and equipment down those craters. Figures, we're a country full of mountain climbers. Austrian scientists also develop a special survival tent in case an astronaut (Marsonaut?) cannot return to the habitat due to a damaged suit or injuries and has to survive a night in the open in temperatures 130 Celsius below freezing in near vacuum. I love scientific presentations.
  21. Without a doubt a minimum amount of sports is an absolute necessity to lead a healthy normal life because the human body was designed to do a ton of physically demanding activities every single day. I remember a German heart surgeon saying that from the 9500 bypass surgeries performed each year 9000 could be avoided with a moderate amount of regular physical activities like running or strength training. To get back to the discussion, some people aren't satisfied with doing the absolute minimum required, like with dental hygiene using lots of floss and the monthly visit to the dentist for ultrasonic cleanings.
  22. I do not envy the rich, rich people rarely have friends or people that truly love them.
  23. My BED is in there! If there is one thing I value more than guns, weights, the woods, the well being of humanity and the whole goddamn universe its a good sleep in my heavenly bed. When I haven't had a good sleep I'm so pissed that whole cities perish under my wrath. Good luck! I haven't had much luck with girls younger than me, couldn't stand their mental unstableness, attitude and general behavior. Maybe its just me but according to my experiences women change a LOT when they reach their late twenties and get mentally AND physically 10000% more attractive when they approach the magical 30. But thats probably just me. Carry on soldier.
