European Parliamentary Elections results, major concern?
Valsuelm replied to BruceVC's topic in Way Off-Topic
Ah yes, independent rule would be horrible. Are you evil? The worst end result, and the most probable unless the EU is largely voluntarily dismantled by members via them leaving it is this: The EU continues as it is, becoming an ever increasing fascist socialist state run by a parasitic ruling elite that leeches the lifeblood from the various economies in Europe and enslaves the populace in debt, and then once the tyranny reaches heretofore unseen yet inevitable levels, collapses in revolution and war. Not everyone is severely brainwashed into thinking the EU is a good thing, that nationalism is a bad thing, that people who oppose the former but support the latter are racist, or certainly that the independent self governing by any group of people is a bad thing. Check your reality sensors, as usual, they're a bit off Bruce, but actually implying that independent rule would be 'an egregious mistake' is a new low for you (or high for you on the evil meter). -
for years we would hear a studio release from the dead and wonder what all those drugged-out hippies were smoking to make'em believe the dead were good, much less great. nevertheless, we happened to see 'em during the period bruce hornsby were touring with the dead, and we were kinda shocked by how much better they were in concert than on the radio. is still not a favorite band for Gromnir, but after we saw 'em, we kinda get it. HA! Good Fun! Indeed. When I was younger I didn't get it much either. Until I saw Nirvana (who I loved) in concert, and they sucked, bad. And then some bands who I never thought were good on album blow my mind on stage. Many of the very best live bands aren't all that great (or are at least not near as great) as their studio releases. And many bands that sound great on a studio album, suck all kinds of suck when they're on stage. I have favorite bands in both categories, but having seen a few hundred live performances, the bands from the first are far more talented in my opinion, I can't help but have so much more respect for them than studio bands. There are of course some bands that are great in both the studio and live, they are rare, but I'll still take their live performances over their studio any day. Here's one of them: The best bands rock it live!

There will be something seriously not right and very unStarWarsy when the 20th Century Fox fanfare doesn't precede the opening roll of Star Wars episode VII.

There's a couple possibilities, the DVD non-anamorphic DVD releases from a few years back or one of the various fanmade despecialized editions floating around. Tale is correct. Some time ago, I bought the 2-disc dvd set of the original trilogy. 6 dvd set in all. There was the special edition on one disc and the original theatrical released on the second disc. The disappointing thing to this set was although the original movies were widescreen, they weren't 16x9 enhanced. But at least I have them on dvd. I have no doubt the original negatives exist and they could restore and do an original theatrical release version on Blu-ray. Hopefully, Lucas doesn't have as much influence as he used to. I'd wager a lot that if the originals were released in Blu-Ray quality that they'd outsell all of the special 'enhanced' editions. Lucas doesn't want to admit he done f****d up when he messed with the original trilogy I don't think. Will Disney release them? Considering the giant treasure trove of films and cartoons they were already sitting on before they acquired Lucasfilm and don't release I think it's very doubtful, but we can hope.

I've always thought that Hayden Christensen and Jake Lloyd got a bad rap for their acting skills. It wasn't their fault their dialogue was crap and the directing was abysmal. The 'love' scenes especially always made me cringe. Wasn't hard to wonder how Lucas ended up divorced after seeing those. There's no way a man or woman who was ever truly in love wrote those. You have very good established actors that all look like they are horrible actors in the prequels, not because they suck, but because the dialogue and directing is so abysmal. Don't get me wrong, Hayden may be a bad actor, but how would we really know from the prequel trilogy? If we only knew Portman, Neeson, McGregor, Lee, et al from the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy we'd generally think they were all bad actors too.

Thank you Oby. I never would have made the connection between Gygax's Greyhawk and bad racial propaganda to dehumanize the Germans from WW1/2 had you not posted this.

Why you'd want to leave AV off most of the time I don't know, but if that's what you want to do, you can just set NOD32 up that way. It has a very robust set of options, allowing one to enable or disable just about every aspect of it individually. Like all AVs though, it will need to load up when you start up your computer as like all AVs it needs to load before just about everything else does in order to work properly. As I mentioned before, it's really unintrusive. I haven't had a false alarm or reason to disable it temporarily in months, and I go down dark interweb alleys fairly frequently. It sounds to me like your experiences with AV are limited to bloatware like Norton or many of the free AVs, for which I can see why you'd want to turn it off most of the time. Like most of the better AVs, there's a free trial at their website if you ever wanted to check it out.

In your case, certainly. Lacking any concept of mathematics, or expected value. WTB coherence. -
Stats query - how many lepers 'til sainthood?

Indeed. It would be a much better use of your time than asking strangers on the internet about it. Go forth! -
And in typical Val's style he blames anything and anyone but himself for misinformation. Well at least you didn't say it was a conspiracy theory...so that's progress in my books When have I posted misinformation? When I have said something was a 'conspiracy theory'? And scroll up Brucie. I was indeed quoting you on the 'NKKK', and I did blame myself. You even quoted it. I guess this is another stellar example of your failure at reading comprehension? A conspiracy theory is misinformation, well almost all of them are. And you operate in a world of conspiracy theories. Sorry that my post may sound nasty but I'm just being honest And once again you are not accepting reality, part of your justification for not getting NKKKK name right is that I also got it wrong. The fact that I didn't use his name correctly shouldn't be any part of your reason Here. I bolded some misinformation for you.

I've never really been a fan of comic books, and I'm not really a fan of comic book movies (there are some exceptions but none of them are the modern marvel movies). That said. I really wouldn't consider the Marvel movies to be Disney movies as they are not produced by Disney Studios. Star Wars VII will be produced under the Disney Studios flag as well as the flag of Lucasfilm, and Abrams company. As for what have they done that hasn't been fantastic? A lot. It'd be much easier to list what they've done right the last few years. 'Frozen', 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe', and 'Tron: Legacy' are all I'm coming up with that they've produced in the last ten years that I'd say were very good to fantastic movies. Granted, I have yet to see Wall-E or Tangled, which I have been meaning to see as they've been highly recommended to me. But the point is, there's a lot of mediocre and bad in Disney's vault the last few decades. And that said, Star Wars is something special, and something way above mediocre and bad (at least the original trilogy was), Disney does not have a good recent history of putting out films on par with them, nor does Lucasfilm itself, and Abrams studio is the weakest of them all. Do their films make money? Sure. But that doesn't make them amazing films. The Original Trilogy were amazing films that set the bar very high. I'm very doubtful that those behind this film can reach that bar, in fact, there's really very little reason to believe that they will at this point. Kasdan being the only one I've seen associated with the production. Perhaps there will be some more good news in the coming months. Abrams is a giant chunk of bad news though that isn't going away. As I said, maybe Disney will surprise me, but I'm not holding out much hope that they will.

Ayup. I have about near zero hopes Disney is going to give us something worthy of the original Trilogy, or even better than the poop we've been treated to the last 15 or so years. I may tune in if the original cast members have a part, but I also may not... I'll wait and see what the previews look like and for other news. Kasden and the possibility of the original cast members being a part of this is about the only good news I've seen. Everything else about Disney and the Star Wars franchise looks to be poop imo. I'm of the camp (and it's no small camp) that Lucas all sorts of effed up his own creation, then put a poop cherry on top of that effed up cake when he sold it all to Disney. Disney owning the rights to all things Lucasfilm is near as bad as them owning the rights to almost everything Jim Henson. Who knows though, Disney may surprise me, but it's hard to be optimistic with Abrams attached to it.

As I've already stated. NOD32 is also quite customizable in what it does and doesn't do, and easily temporarily turned off all together if one so wishes for whatever reason.
