  1. Athlon-64 does give better gaming performance but the price you shell out for something like an FX-55 Processor is around $1000. Also, P4 gives better multitasking performance than an Athlon-64. Besides, when Longhorn comes out, there will be better processors than Athlon-64 FX-55 which is why I'd settle with an Intel Xeon or P4 Solution. Actually, Supermicro makes Intel SLi Boards w/ DDR2 Memory. I've seen their Dual Xeon board w/ SLi that retails around 4k. Thats a complete waste of money which is why its not worth buying a Dual Xeon SLI since so few companies make it and it is terribly overpriced. EDIT : Another reason I chose Intel over AMD was DDR2 memory. The earlier DDR2 memory was getting beaten by older DDR but now with certain revisions, DDR2 is whooping DDR's ass. They've already made DDR2 800MHz modules but they are still in testing...
  2. I would say 1. Motherboard 2. Video Card 3. Memory 4. CPU For the longest time, I was using a PII 350MHz. I recently bought a TI500 since they were selling for like $30 and I put it in my machine. I also bought 1gb of pc 100 SDRAM and I tried installing KotOR just to see what kind of performance I'd get. I actually managed to play KotOR even though the CPU was 650MHz short of the requirements. I did 15 FPS @ 800*600 using the Low texture pack. Thats not bad for a system which came out 3 years before the game did. Ofcourse, the game did take like 10 minutes to load and the system did crash after I closed KotOR but heh....
  3. Translating KotOR into all of the local languages would take years, they would never do that. You're right anyways, they'll probably do German, French, and Spanish. They probably wont do Russian and besides, the Russians do a pretty good job of pirating and translating it themselves. I don't know why they have to translate all the speech files. If you ask me, I'd just put subtitles since its such a waste of time. Ofcourse, if you put subtitles, more people will feel inclined to buy the game and less people will download it. Anyways, I don't really care as long as its in English.
  4. That would suck if European PC users had to wait another 5 months until they translated all the speech files into the local languages... Its always the case however that games come out first in the country of their creation. However, they almost always do a simaltaneous international release these days. I don't think there is anything to worry about.
  5. I knew you were going to write this... still it was a baaaaaaad joke. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Notice how I said "twice being below" in my prevoius post. That just further proves my point... Ok thats your opinion. Ooooohhhh.... Look at me, I'm so offended Im going to cry :D. Damn it Coordinator, why did you make me cry? :D (w00t)
  6. Ok... You're right. I didn't read what you said thoroughly. Is the little kid (you) satisfied now? By the way, I made a comment you not reading my posts once(twice being below). That hardly qualifies as every time. (w00t) Then you could not even play KotOR and many other games. And those types of hd are not produced anyway. I was joking dumbass.... You would gather that if you READ the REST of the post....
  7. That's not true actually. I bought a Dell system w/ this card after they had "locked" their units. With the latest NVStrap Driver (v 1.7) included with RivaTuner 15.3 (released a few days ago), you can unmask the extra pipelines. Also, I've managed to OC to 400/1100 which are Ultra clock levels. Thats quite a lot of perfomance.
  8. This is what I want in my PC :D Asus Motherboard w/ 925XE chipset and SLi (Not out yet...) P4 3.46 GHz Extreme Edition w/ 1066 FSB (But OC to 1334 Mhz to match RAM) 2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 PRO PC5400 (667mhz) 2 Asus 6800 Ultra Extreme Edition 16x PCI-E (currently EE is only AGP...) I dont even care about the hard drive, you could give me a 2gb SATA and I wouldn't complain. Ofcourse, the only problem now is waiting until we actually see some of this technology. There are Intel SLI prototype boards but they aren't fully working. Supermicro and Gigabyte have manufactured them. The only thing is they don't have 2 16x slots. One slot will be 16x but the other slot will be either 4x or 8x... The Price of this System: $4500+ Ofcourse, this is unreasonable but it would be great if I had it :D.
  9. Hmm.... I was getting really upset with my 6800 GTO for not being able to compare with a GT. Now that I've unmasked the pipes, I have better performance than a 6800 GT. This is quite a good card....
  10. Is that 64MB of video ram? Or is that 64MB of shared system ram? And the normal for pc users these days is around 128mb of vram. For system RAM, its around 512-1024.
  11. Astatine, the article itself said that there was a 1,000 - 2,000 mark difference with 2 6600 GT on the same board as opposed to an X850 XT PE or a 6800 Ultra EE. I hear it is possible you can SLI those 2 cards so you have 4 6600 GT GPUs working together. This would destroy any graphics solution on the market today. A user would probably get around 26,000 with a decent rig and two of these cards set up. People seem to think that nVidia is buggy and is outperformed by ATi. Only the top of the line cards (X800 and X850) can pump out that much. If you look at any card, e.g. the X600 or the 6600GT, the GT wins. The GT even beats the 9800 with all the stuff I've seen on it. Also if you compare the X300 with the 6200, the 6200 absolutely decimates the X300. Even if you are looking for top of the line graphics cards, ATi gets beaten today. Agreed, 1 X850 XT PE can outperform any nVidia card. However, when you use nVidia's SLi feature, you have 60-80% better performance than using a single X850 XT PE. ATi doesn't have this technology and even if they have a better card, the SLi technology w/ 2 GPUs (or 4 ) can beat any ATi card on the market.
  12. That 6800GT deal seems amazing Craftsman....
  13. Thats incorrect because SLI gives a 100% increase in performance. This is the equivalent of SLI but on one card. Thus, if you connect 2 of these cards, you will get 4x better performance than 1 6600gt. It also said that the card performs better than the 6800 Ultra and the X850 XT PE AT LOWER RESOLUTIONS. Also, considering the fact that this card will be cheaper, I'd rather get it but only after a decent site gives it a good review.
  14. I think the original HW was better. I pay much more attention to storyline than graphics. HW's storyline was captivating and nothing like it had ever been done before. Also, the storyline was complemented by an excellent choice of music and excellent integration of it into the game. Besides, for HW's time, those graphics were incredible. It also introduced amazing new features such as the sensor array, the hyperspacing ability, the 3d attacks etc.
  15. I don't think they will be much higher than the specs for KotOR 1. The reason I say this is because they are still using the same game engine and are only updating and adding a few new textures. There won't be a dramatic graphics improvment in K2. That's not needed though since K1 had great graphics. Ofcourse, they are a year old now but they still look good.
  16. Apparently, they have put 2 6600GT GPUs on the same board. This gives a 60-70% better performance then the 6800 Ultra EE or the X850 XT PE. Its called the Gigabyte 3D1 card but its not out for sale yet. The price however is expected to be less than the 6800 Ultra EE or the X850 XT PE. The only thing that they've had a problem is that this card does not perform as well at higher resolutions than the Ultra EE or the XT PE... http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews/20041216_115811.html
  17. I've never played it, but the sequel is supposed to be a pale shadow of the original. Don't judge the FPS RPG by Invisible War. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree, it was a disappointment for many including me. It lacked some of the greatest aspects of the original Deus Ex.
  18. I am never ever using implants. I know its a game but still... its just disgusting to use cybernetic chips in your body... eww....
  19. Actualy LA said near the beginging of production for KOTORIII that it would be an "Only on Xbox Title". I think your playing KOTOR. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah right, making the final part of KOTOR an Xbox only would be a really good present to the PC users that liked and bought the first two games. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was joking dumbass, just like DSluke was. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Umm.... dumbass, there is an apparent flaw in your logic as I was the one who was joking and then you posted a reply to my post. Then, DSLuke thought that you seriously meant that KotOR III was an "X-BOX only" title. You then said that DSLuke was joking when I was the one who made the joking comment. Not to make fun of other members of this forum but if you wanted to use the word dumbass because you felt like it, the proper post would be: I was joking dumbass like Darth Ni I think you need to re-read those posts
  20. Invisible War wasn't as good a game as the original Deus Ex. It had more open ended gameplay but it lacked everything that could've make it a good game.
  21. You could do combat in third person when using a lightsaber like in JA. I still wouldn't support it because KotOR can't be made into an FPS.
  22. Yes, if your hardware is being stretched to the limit it can cause a crash. Also, if the ambient temperature inside the room is extremely low, it can also cause severe damage. During winter, the risk is great of having your PC damaged if you do not take proper care as a lack of moisture in the air can cause static shock which is fatal to electronic components. Shadowstrider, I hate to be confrontational but if there isn't a MAJOR problem then why do reviewers complain about it? I'm sure one frame rate drop wont get them to complain/rant about it through the entire review. There have to be quite a few frame rate drops if they make an issue of it, right?
  23. Definetly. Deus Ex was an incredible game and no FPS RPG can match it. Also, its impossible to implement such a thing (KotOR FPS). The game was designed to give you a deep storyline and characters which all have different ways of viewing things. This can easily be done in an RPG because you shape your character and all the NPC's personalities are more developed. In every FPS I've seen, there is no time spent on character development. Most of the time, you don't have conversation options (and even if you do, they are very limited) and the game focuses mainly on killing. I think turning this into an FPS would make the KotOR series a dismal failure. When I showed one of my friends KotOR, he hated it because it wasn't an FPS and I don't want to see FPS junkies ruin a good series.
  24. Hmm... you do have a point shadowstrider. The reason though that there are PC crashes is because the huge number of possible PC configurations and the game is not compatible with ALL hardware. The XBOX may not always have FPS issues but I hear in major battle scenes things get pretty bad (come on, not just 1 slowdown for that). This is understandable because even though the XBOX has a 256bit processing ability, it only has 64mb of shared RAM.
  25. 62 videos??!?!!? Thats insane. KotOR I had maybe 30 videos.
