  1. seriously dude, wtf? mod = modification not module. bioware can call their modules mods because it still makes sense. and when the hell did i say they're not mods? it modifies nwn so it is a nwn mod and a nwn module. believe it or not bioware's nwn is not the first game to be modded so it does not set any rules for what is or isnt a mod.
  2. i havent had any probs, that was in reply to the same guy you're talking about. i know you mean well but that guy is probably just bs-ing his probs with the mods since most cant crash your game. and none of them that i've tried will crash your game if you follow the simple instructions. btw, nice tach mod on your site. i'll have to try that one when i give kotor one last run in feb.
  3. then you dont know what a mod is. what you're thinking is more along the lines of a tc but still not a tc since it uses the same original resources. a mod is just any modification to the original game which has indeed been done. i have no clue wtf you're talking about. if english is not your first language please use shorter sentences with only one idea/point at a time. do not assume i can read your mind and find the rest of your idea/point, all i got to go on is what you write. btw, a sdk is not the tools that the devs used. its only the tools they can allow you to have. its not necessary that they used them and very likely that they never used those tools at all. a lot of devs have their own tools made specifically for them so they can make the game which would cost too much to release. you post was too long so i put in only the parts i intend to respond to. first off, i'd like to see your skins that were so easy to make. it would probably just prove my point that a crappy skin is easy to make but a quality one is not. if you made it you should at least have your own copy if not have the link of the site that hosted it. it doesnt matter if they're down, give the link anyway. and a new skin is most definitely a mod. code != script. most dont need a new script yet most crashed your game. bf1942 had a lot of tc's rather than kotor's mods. tc is basicly a lot of mods done to make the game completely different. bf mods would actually be the re skins of the guns or models or maybe a new or edited map.
  4. for a game not meant to be modded kotor modding was indeed a great success. even games with tools specifically meant to mod it have done worse. modules are not needed for modding. also by your description of kotor mods i can tell you havent tried any mods recently.
  5. it sounds like you're mad you cant take credit for making modding possible. kotor was modded because it runs off an edited nwn engine. the devs claim its a whole new engine but all that means to them is that parts were changed and it was recompiled under a new project name. just like the doom 3 devs claim their's is a new engine when its just an edited quake 3 engine. heavily edited but still an edited quake 3 engine. anyway, the many tools released already by the devs of the nwn engine is why so many people started to mod it. not all the tools worked but some people managed to re-make some of the tools for kotor. if it werent for nwn before it, i doubt many would have ever tried any kind of serious modding for kotor. as for the mods themselves, yes there are many. some pretty damn good ones too. i know of at least one that adds in removed parts of the game (still released with the game but taken out of the map). making a crappy skin might not be difficult once you already know everything there is to know about making one (ffs...) but a good one is not as easy as you assume. there are even some that add new force powers like temp clones of yourself that help you fight for a certain time limit. the higher you upgrade it, the more clones. funny that you havent used any of these mods but have so much to say about them. btw, in most of the mods they're not chaning any code (at most they change scripts which is written kinda like code but most dont need to) so its impossible to crash your game with them. btw, for anyone interested in modding or getting mods check this site: http://www.lucasforums.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=324
  6. a dev already answered this, it wont be any harder to mod than kotor 1.
  7. being released on one dvd or 4 cd's will not affect piracy of this game. the chance of it being pirated is 100%, chance of it being cracked is around the same. if it uses the same protection its back up to 100%. as for the price of dvd drives, for most people its not about the price, its about installing it. most of them have pre built machines which they cannont and will not open. external dvd drives are not as cheap. i doubt the people who voted here count as a majority, definitely not a vast majority.
  8. this isnt a dramatic change... it would still be the same game with the same quests but you dont have to play dumb about who you are. it wouldnt really take that much in the way of changes. just split up some of the voices recorded so you can replace certain parts when you're playing the second time through. and it wouldnt hurt to let you kill the people who laugh at you when you say you're revan. what kind of sith lord lets a dude laugh at them?
  9. its hard to play it a second time with what you know at the end. i just loaded the save where i chose light or darkside and played from there. i know they also made the enemies stronger the second time but i didnt really notice it. (eventually did play from the start again with mods) i'd rather they give you a reason to play it a second time with new dialog options or revealing that you're revan early on instead of that late. and definitley take some of malak's ego away, he's weak and only became a sith lord through a cheap shot at revan. even using the entire star forge and all of his sith jedi and robots and whatever else he could find to throw, he still got beat.
  10. it is about half a year, an estimate, ffs i cant believe you even argued that. it can very well be almost 6 months if it gets released late feb counting the days left in september. i really hope you didnt feal smart when making this post... you dont seem to know much so i really doubt you've created any kind of game. i have been involved in the development of games and know that 6 months for bug fixing is way more than needed especially since they're going to be able to release patches. and i'm only talking final testing, they fix bugs through the whole development of the game. and on top of all that, this is an edited version of a proven engine. sure they have been engine code changes but its still based on a working game engine and isnt as hard to test for bugs.
  11. you're kidding right? the game is finished so we're waiting half a year (5 months) till it comes out... publishing the game doesnt take 5 months. if they are working on extra content then this would count as just that.
  12. do force powers do a constant dmg or does the dmg go up as you level. if so is there a cap to how much you can do? will there be different levels of mods (not named level 1,2,3 but giving better stats) for guns and armor or will there be slots you have to fill with certain mods? will the head wear be moddable? will there be power struggles between 2 light saber users? (maybe 3 - 5 seconds of saber to saber stand-off) can sabers be knocked out of the enemies hand? (maybe as part of a fatalaty if that term applies outside of mortal kombat) will there be special finishing moves maybe chosen by the player to finish off an enemy (maybe only for lightsaber fights) if none of this stuff is in right now, what are the chances it could be added before the feb 2005 release?
  13. good idea with the sticky.. didnt notice the name of the poster and assumed this was another complaint thread. pretty generic respons in his post not really giving any kind of answer but from the other posts of the devs and common sense its easy to see why it happened the way it did.
  14. i'd rather if you have to fight a guy twice, make him/her able to die the first time. of course if you're supposed to lose make it a very hard fight but if the pc is strong enough to win let the pc win. then later based on if you lost to the npc or won have the same npc fight you, a different npc all together, or a mechanicly rebuilt npc you defeated.
  15. the devs already said all they need to. its pretty easy to figure what happened, why the pc is coming 2 months after the xbox. if they didnt get the code for the pc for at least a couple months after they got the xbox code, there is no way its going to be a dual platform release without pushing the release date of a finished one back. also if you notice, its lucas arts that makes all the official announcements about release dates and that kind of thing. so if they're in charge of all that stuff, it'd be up to them to announce correct themselves when a dual platform release was no longer possible. lucas arts being all about the money now saw no reason to announce this in terms of making them more money so it didnt get out. there is nothing more to ask obsidian or any dev working on the game about why the pc and international xbox is being released 2 months later. that being said, i have a question about the pc version. i know we're not allowed to mod the game, but based on what you know about kotor 1 mods how hard will it be to mod kotor 2?
  16. 1. for force powers, does the dmg stay the same always? will the dmg go up as you level higher? 2. if the enemy is a lot lower level than you (maybe 5-10), will there be some way to kill them in 1 hit? 3. will time of day change? (if not dynamically then when you move from one map to another on a world) 4. when you start a new game to switch from light to dark side or other way around, will you know generally whats going to happen next until the ending fmv? (will you be doing the same quests) 5. will there be any invincible enemies that you fight? (calo nord the first time you fight him and malak also the first time you fight. malak can be hurt but not killed. both fights are cheap since the game cheats to let them always win, it doesnt seem like a fair fight) 6. will you be able to kick people off your ship if they get annoying (carth)
  17. didnt see this thread and posted another question.. oops. btw did i get any questions in there? i know i posted pretty late in there.
  18. will the time of day ever change? (day always or night always) i think obsidian did fallout with time of day changes. if there are time changes will there be npc location changes as in gothic 1 and 2? in both games the npcs leave their shops at night
  19. tatooine was best done in jedi knight academy. but then again jedi knight academy was pretty cool and even the kotor tatooine would be kinda cool if used there. especially to use force jump when the guy gives you crap about opening the gates to let you in the desert.. for the next kotor a different tatooine would be fine. maybe a big city like mos eisley at night.
  20. knowing both xbox and pc teams are one only confirms that xbox got priority. they didnt get the pc code cause lucas arts wanted xbox out in time for christmas. pc is less important to their money filled pockets so it will come out when it does. i doubt it would come out at all if the code wasnt so similar to the xbox's code.
  21. its not an actual petition, its just a thread. this thread is pretty much what his first petition was.
  22. the answer is that the console version got priority cause console games make more. there is no way there would be a 2 month gap otherwise.
  23. Now that is an idiotic statement tht I find insulting. No intelligence required just because you "plug it in and put in a disc?" So regardless of the actual gameplay, having to install it on PC's means you need intelligence? OK......... And you obviously have never played or even seen a Final Fantasy game if you believe "the product is dumbed down games that dont require as much effort making." Those games have about the same effort (if not more) to create than KOTOR or KOTOR2. <_< <{POST_SNAPBACK}> sad but true, console games have to be dumbed down. if not just because of the controls that you use, people buy consoles so they dont have to worry about drivers, patches, video settings, all the other options that only would be on a pc game, or hardware. i'm not saying this as an insult to you damn console users but just stating the obvious. oh yeah, and death to the consoles!!!
  24. consoles are just for people who dont want to think much. just plug it in and put in a disc, no intelligence required. and the product is dumbed down games that dont require as much effort making. i wouldnt get a console even if all the major game devs stop making pc games.
  25. your xbox version will be low res and will look crappy. this forum needs a F U smiley
