You thought A Halfdragon mindflayer was bad?

Ive got the ..mm.. 4th edition right here but Ive only read it briefly. Im studying as many RPG systems as I can as part of my game dev education so Ive got a huge pile of them to go through -
well, it isn't happening in the highly skilled arena. i have not once heard of anybody worth a salt losing their job overseas. also, the supposed "cheaper labor" is not quite true when all the expenses of running an overseas operation are taken into account. perhaps for low (or no) skill jobs there is a benefit, but when supervision and review of the work is required as they are with design services, the extra overhead to manage such positions replaces the savings in wages. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As India has an ever-increasing middle class of highly educated and skilled people, we will see more, as its already happening- outsourcing of 'skilled' positions. As a general rule, everyone is replacable except the higher echelons of management. But individuals is not the issue here, we need jobs and the majority of workers are not highly educated specialists and they are running out of options. Unemployment causes poverty and poverty is the mother of everything bad. Outsourcing>Unemployent>Poverty>Breakdown of society as we know it

But the alignment system was constructed before those came along, wasnt it? I mean, its like levels were not designed just to give undead something to drain. -

But why even have an alignment system? The only basic function it fills is to easily tell you who are the badguys and who are the guys in white shiny armour. It feels alot more like something youd use to handle NPCs as its IMO nuts to try and apply it to players. ..and regarding NPCs.. I mean, if youre faced with a 5m horned monstrosity that reeks of sulphur and has flames comming out of his ears... you know that guy is up to no good " -

I think there are too many simplistic prejudices about being evil. If I was to play a Drow I would play her evil because thats their schtick ..except that I hate the alignment system as it is too narrow and simplistic to be able to correctly describe any but the most generic characters. I usually leave that line blank and roleplay it instead. -
Outsourcing is one of the worst threats to the social and economic stability of the western world. Increasing the profits of major companies at the cost of significantly larger numbers of unemployed is quite insane to do from societys standpoint. Sure, there will be a little more tax income from that company but that wont cover the cost of the damage done. Especially not if the company can get away with paying that tax in some other country or ignore it completely in the name of global 'free trade' Thats not going to help one bit if they can get someone, who is less skilled, to do the same job for one tenth of your wage. You might even get to spend the last unknowing months at your job as a consultant, teaching the oompa-loompas how to do your job before the company throws you out into the street.

D&D -how does wounding really work?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
Well, the char in our group that has a wounding weapons also has 5+ attacks and with this she is able to grind most things to a pulp in 2-3 rounds. -
The people I play ith seem to have odd ideas about how some things work. One of these is their take on wounding weapons which I dont really understand how theyre supposed to work. They play it so that the target hit looses Con AND most importantly, also loses HP corresponding to that loss of con. So basicly, each hit also generates a massive loss of hitpoints on top of the damage. This seems to be way too powerful, is this really how its supposed to work?

Definently ...I dont believe it is possible to make a Drow character that isnt in some way a walking, talking fantasy clich -

MMO devs need to start thinking "outside the box", the generic fantasy world where everyone is a hero doesnt work. The whole concept of what a MMO is supposed to be, needs to be redefined. and IM the game design student that could do it -

exactly. MMORPGS appeals solel to the baser RPG instincts: looting and levelling. There really isnt much more than that to them. -
It was written in a semi-dazed state as I returned home from a grueling workshop. For your sake I shall clearify: As Im very afraid of sharks, I nearly suffered a heart attack when seeing the picture on the previous page. The one where the shark is charging the camera. So if anyone should post a similar picture again and I suffer a fatal heart attack, I will have no option but to sue you from beyond the pale.
-
As Im extremely phobic of sharks I nearly got a heart attack from that picturethats wasnt of one jumping photographed from a safe distance. So if you do it again and I die, Ill sue you from beyond the grave.

C++ for complete and utter beginners
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Developers' Corner
To have atleast a basic understanding of what the programmers are doing and what is involved in their work. As it is now, Ill just tell them that I want "this and that to do this" and what happens next is some kind of magic that I understand nothing of. Because that is the programming language we use. -
