  1. Wich is cool. Also, doesn't Eder look a bit older at the last image? Maybe the sequel fasts forward like 10-15 years or so?
  2. https://twitter.com/adam_brennecke/status/806267251095547905 Could it be an upcoming Pillars update soon?
  3. To be honest, dynamic weather was already a thing in the original Baldur's Gate. In some ways, it's a return to the past, though I obviously expect it to be much more impressive in a modern game than it was in a 1998 game. In any case it's a move forward Even better if the weather affects gameplay!
  4. It's just us I suppose We don't have that deep info to tell how promising it looks. Bu t we just *know* it will be better that the original
  5. Obsidian is the most sadistic teaser ever. Other companies usually give you an officially announced, well directed, high budget (for a teaser) teaser video that you know its gonna be meh because it doesen't say much about the game, so you're like "meh, nothing here I'll just wait for a lengthy gameplay video sometime". No hype whatsoever. These guys put out here and there small stuff that "slip", being teasers but also giving (partly) actual information about the game. And they never talk abou anything! This or it's just that I care more about Pillars 2 than other games
  6. One of the very few devs that don't try to oversell their work.
  7. Also there is this interesting thing here; a recorded livestream Obs did a couple of days ago. Josh answers questions about Pillars and commenting on the game, while Eric, the community manager, plays through it. He doesen't talk directly about the sequel but he highlights things in the original that will/can be improved.
  8. Yeah. Protype Vailian/ Deadfire portraits I suppose?
  9. You all know that all this about the money, the budget, were did they get it from, how they spent it... it is all speculation, right? We cannot know for sure how they work and we'll probably never know anyway. Why not focus on what info/tease we have about Pillars 2 and what we want to see/be removed from the sequel? You know, like the OP is made for (I assume, from the title...)?
  10. @nipsen, noone cares about your arguments here 3 years after the kickstartter began. You don't like how the game came out, you blame some people, fine. Nothing will change it now. This is a forum for people who like the game and trying to give feedback and opinions about how it can become better in the future. Please go somewere and talk with like-mined ranters. It's a freaking game, man, not politics! It doesen't affect your life! Move on; stop making it hard for people who want to contribute to the thread (and the forums). You're doing noone any good. Not yourself, not the forum, not Obsidian, not the game, not even the genre. You're just making a duche out of yourself. Don't you see? If you have a real life problem, try to focus there and don't toss it in here in the form of rants. Come on!
  11. Sorry mate #nipsen, couldn't muster the courage to read all that you spread above. Hope you'll find a game suitable for your likings somewere. Good luck.
  12. "st" thingy made it to the sequel. That's all I need to know. See you when the game's out!
  13. As you finish the game, you already have a truckload of abilities, items etc. I doubt you'll continue to 20 more levels adding that many stuff on top. Most probably you'll start over another character or they'll rework the system and make you import choices but re-level-up your character with a new, slower 1-20 (or whatever the level cap was ) level system? Starting over is a better choice imo, because new players and players that were away from the game for years, will have an easier time getting into it.
  14. The minimap is the minimized area map. Why is it so immersion breaking? You do open the area map frequently no? Why not just have it in a smaller version always nearby. Tyranny also has this "smart" minimap that auto-switches to combat log once the battle begins. Neat.
  15. There's one more thing I forgot to mention that Pillars can take from Tyranny. Or, actually, from almost every other game there is: minimap.
  16. Hit the Conquest button after making a character and you get the introduction to the universe. Nah you don't. You get a series of choices to make in a conquest campaign of a place you know nothing of at the moment. And you care not for the moment. Couldn't disagree more I thought it was a great intro to the game world It's a good intro to the game. Not so much of a good intro the game world. The intro video is a better intro to the world imo It is also a good intro to your 2nd playthrough, since you're more familiar with factions etc at that point. For first time... I just tried to pick what was the least horrible option 'cause I don't play evil characters and I really didn't like that much, at the end (thought it was a cool idea at the start), that you're starting off as an evil lackey of His Evilness.
  17. I don't understand people who get that mad over a freaking game. Especially when it is about mechanics and not their projection on real world subjects. Either they have prioritize what's important completely wrong or they get even more mad over serious subjects (that could be good or bad, depending ). It's ok to participate in a forum, discussing and expressing your opinion, but when the game is out and you don't like, you just leave it and play something that you do like. Leave the forums to those who actually care about, don't ruin it because of some stupid personal (and one-sided!) grudge. I click to see what's new in the thread and I see a text wall of rants and curses. Almost 3 years after the game is out! Move on. Please.
  18. So, here's my 2 cents of what Pillars can learn from Tyranny to improve: - Reputation system. - Stronghold mechanics (IF they want to use a stonghold in the sequel - I can live without it, tbh, but it is welcome). - More involved companions. - Portrait/pose of EACH character speaking at the moment. - An indicator showing the path you travel on world map. And that's pretty much it. Don't get me wrong, I believe Tyranny is a very good game with very cool ideas, but I don't believe just because they work well in it, they'll work well in Pillars too. And although I like its mechanics, I don't believe they are the top mechanics ever. They are just how they cose to go. It's the team's take on their game, not the next big thing all rpgs should follow. What do I mean: > Spellcrafting is very cool, but it might be cumbersome for a game with 6 party members and a pool of 10 companions in total. > Classless VS classed. Again, it's a matter of opinion. I don't mind classes and I usually prefer them in a party-based game. Thankfully, in Tyranny they went for main character being classless only, since each companion has his/her own tree. > Companions have their own talent trees. The Japanese way. I don't know. It's fine but it's not objectively better that a calss system applied to all. I prefer the latter, tbh. Tyranny utilises better the stats and the background into its roleplay and choices-and-concequenses, but that is a matter of execution. Pillars has the foundation and the potential, it's that the devs never utilised them as much as they should. It also has better graphics, but I believe Pillars 2 will have even better 'cause graphics is a matter of technical progress; the more recent the game, the better the graphics, no? What Pillars should NOT take from Tyranny, though, is the scope. Tyranny shows you a huge world map, but you don't feel you're into one as such. There are just a few small areas in each place - you don't feel you're travelling/exploring a sub-continent. I feel like i'm a dust pit with a bunch of a-holes! Pillars had a smaller land to explore, but it felt much larger and alive. And more interesting, tbh, 'cause it was more real - not everyone was a jerk. I won't elaborate more here 'cause I'm lazy, but you get the idea All that said, there are other stuff that prevent me to enjoy Tyranny as much as I enjoyed Pillars, although I believe it's a very very good game with many thing to show to future devs, but I won't write about them here, 'cause this isn't the place to do so. Let's hope we'll have an announcement soon for Pillars 2 and all luck to the Tyranny team and hope they get a sequel too! EDIT: And, oh, something both games should do next time: USE SOME DRAWN IMAGES ALONG WITH YOUR TEXT WALL "CUT SCENES"!!! You describe stuff like what I deram of and images I have etc and what I see on the background is the close-up of the ground textures or some random npc frozen in an awkward position or something completely unconnected to what I'm reading! Seriously, they're like 10 in the entire game. Not that many. I'm pretty sure you can squeeze 10-15 more drawings in. You already did it once with the player's dreams about the hanged Watcher in the 1st settlement in Pillars. Do it for every similar situtation. Ok, now I'm finished
  19. Hit the Conquest button after making a character and you get the introduction to the universe. Nah you don't. You get a series of choices to make in a conquest campaign of a place you know nothing of at the moment. And you care not for the moment.
  20. Pretty sure the thread will evolve (if not already done it) into a +/- of Tyranny instead of what is good in Tyranny that will benefit Pillars
  21. Interesting thread (I was thinking about starting one myself once I played Tyranny). I haven't got my hands on Tyranny yet, hopefully tonight or at Sunday, but from several previews I saw of the game, it looks it has many things to teach to Pillars. I'll return after I've played some of Tyranny
  22. Well, Tyranny is published under Paradox - it's their property - and the game is anything but casual. Yet, as much as I prefer they go without crowdfunding (because of what I saw in these forums during the production period of PIllars), going without it needs a publisher. And the downside of that (unless they strike a convenient deal) is that they no longer own the game's ip, which means they have not that much saying on the future of Pillars.
  23. The problem with crowdfunding is not that we're forced to pledge. Is that they're "forced" to please the backers. Obsidian have resources (they're not some indie company) and the collaboration with Paradox. They know what game they want to make. Involving backers again it might not be a good idea. On the other hand, dissapointed backers of the Pillars campaign might not back a sequel, so maybe we're all good
  24. All in for classes in party-based rpg. Makes more sense and limits the frustration of advancing each companion in "class" anyway since you need to have different fanctions with each companion in a party-based game, don't you? Classless is great for single-player rpg but in party-based, imo, classes are a better choice. Also, Pillars' classes fit well in its lore and aesthetics.
