Ratio of console sales to PC
Mark Havel replied to Atreides's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Now I undestand why LucasArts wanted the game for christmas for US XBox players... Which is stil quite unfortunate regarding the game quality. -
::Spoiler Advisory:: black screen of death on dant
Mark Havel replied to pragmatous's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well you know it is always recommended to save in different slots. Personnally I use at least 20 to 30 slots per character. -

I encoutered a similar trouble long long ago. I reloaded a quite old savegame and it worked well. You should try this, it seems the game corrupts the savegames and the game. -

KotOR II Movie/Music Patch Coming Soon
Mark Havel replied to funcroc's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I will install it since I don't like at all butchered musics in mono which sounds clunky and overcompressed. Of course it would be great that the remaining bugs and glitches are fixed in a future patch. And why not the inconsistences of the end. But having high quality musics and movies are better than nothing. -
KotOR II Movie/Music Patch Coming Soon
Mark Havel replied to funcroc's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm glad to see they did not forget this content patch. Now I hope "next week" does not means next january . -
Thanks, the threads and the links are quite interesting for any amateur of behind-the-scene details.

It sounds like another battle music used in KotOR I. By the way, does anyone know a site where I could find some information about the content cut in KotOR I ?

Notification for when KotOR 2 is actually finished
Mark Havel replied to mtfbwy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yes, I were talking of the second patch, the one with his res musics and movies. I think in case of leak, it is not Obsidian's fault, so all they have to prove to LucasArts is they took all the security measures needed to protect the data, which would be bypassed by a genius hacker... Hum, let's stop dreaming and begin to lobby LucasArts about this. -

Mark Havel replied to mtfbwy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well I thinked a bit about the situation and came to this conclusion : If none is coming within two weeks, we should propose Obsidian to make a leak of the patch on some P2P network. -
When you'll have your lightsaber and more Jedis in your group, you'll find out that the game is overall far more easier than the first one.

You should look at the CD surface to see if there's any glitch. And you should try to return it to you reseller to get another copy, it seems your own is not working well.

I don't think Java is the best suited langage to maka a game engine...

If you wanted help, it would have been good to give us more information about your config and such kind of things. Anyway, always take care of updating your Windows, your graphic card driver, your chipset drivers, your soundcard drivers and your DirectX to their lastest official versions. Aoh, and any developpers wants to make totally and entirely finished games, but some times, the editor wants the game to be done in a unrealistic delay. This was the case with KotOR II. So blame LA (who made the technical support and QA by the way), not only Obsidian. Hum what does "Hoodwinked" mean ?

Notification for when KotOR 2 is actually finished
Mark Havel replied to mtfbwy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well if a lot of people write them asking what's the f*ck about the content patch, it'll certaintly remember them they promised it to us and there is a lot of people interested... -

Mark Havel replied to mtfbwy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
So it's two month and two weeks since the "coming in a few days"... Did you politely mail LA to ask them about the content patch instead of endlessly whining about the non coming of the patch ? -

There is unfortunately a pattern with Atari which is to force the release of unifinished games and patch them later. See what's happening with the very promising Boiling Point. -
Update on content patch please OE
Mark Havel replied to actmodern's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Since the only right that Obsidian has on KoTOR II is to make the game and do what LA ask them to do, I think we can say they make all their possible to care with us. It seems LA is moving their offices (read this). Let's hope this is the reason of all this delaying... -
Blizzard does not ask itself silly questions with bandwith when they patch Wolrd of Warcraft : they use BitTorrent and send the main patches to sites known for their huge downloading section... And I WILL be happy when this content patch will be available. In even may write them a mail to thank them...

Update on content patch please OE
Mark Havel replied to actmodern's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Though apparently the Visas introduction movie is an exception, and you can download a mod that plays it with the game engine instead of the movie. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A lot of other movies are obviously made with the game engine then compressed in ugly .bik : * Visas introducing. * The betrayal of Sion and Nihilus in Malachor. * All the movies on Dantooine during the mercenary attack. This could be done with a mod I think, unless the content patch decides to release. -

Anyway, I think it's a good idea to remind LA and OE about the promised content patch, even if the only answer is actually the release of the content patch. -
If you're thinking about the X800XL, then yes, this is the best performance price rate you'll be able to get now. If you can't afford the 300$/

KotoR2 for PC is extremely laggish
Mark Havel replied to LabSpeciman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
With the lastest release of 5.6 Catalyst drivers, Ati is supposed to support laptop video cards now. You should try them. Anyway, having 512 MB of RAM makes the game fare more confortable. The video card is the most critical component of a PC regarding game performance. The Radeon 9000 is a low end video card and you should not expect having the best performances in any game. Since most of the laptop don't have high end video cards (they tend to be high power consumming and making a big lot of heat), this kind of computers are not the most suitable for games. The programmation of the game engine is in this case not the most responsible for the bad performances of the game. -

Mark Havel replied to actmodern's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
You know, if you want to avoid bandwith issues, BitTorrent is your friend. It's used by Blizzard every time they patch World of Warcraft, so why not in our case ? It is quite obvious that most of the movies where just made with the game engine and then compressed in a ugly .bik. I really think their "high-res movies" are just some replacement of these ugly movies by some scripts using the game engine. As far as I know such kind of script should not take more than 1 Mb... -

It's now more than two months since the 1.0b patch release. It's time to write polite mails asking LA when they will release this patch.
