I personally never saw the issue with healing batteries in games where you controlled a large number of characters (wasn't that the point). Besides, everyone being able to heal (recover stamina) themselves (on top of stamina recovering quickly) makes the game feel less strategic and more like 6 1vX's as opposed to an actual 6vX. It's like the difference between old school shooters with health packs/armor/etc. and new ones with regenerating health. On top of that the whole permanent health damage unless you rest feels even more restrictive then the old system. Before you could mitigate having to rest for a long time with potions and making sure your priest/druid had a good deal of healing spells, but now the second your front line dude takes 4x his/her health in stamina damage you're forced to rest (and realistically you'd want to do it much sooner to not risk them getting smoked).

Bro, what?

Oh, so the blood of the dragon coats her with Teflon; really? Besides if we're being "realistic" then her skin should turn a silver color since there's no completely see through and fireproof substance (especially back then). Also I'm guessing that you thought BG2 was an awful game because whenever you picked up Crom Faeyr your character didn't instantly turn into the size of a mack truck. Or when you cast strength on them. Or when any number of a dozen other things that modify player strength happened in that game (and pretty much every other video game on Earth). But not all Muslims, despite being informed by the same sexist scriptures, throw acid at women. Acid is thrown at women by misogynist ****s who simply use their creed to justify their actions. Islam didn't make them throw the acid, them being ****ing **** did. Just because there are douche bags who yell racism at every off color doesn't mean that actual racism doesn't exist anymore. What you're saying is actual racism. You're extrapolating the actions of a small sect of misogynist **** to be representative of all Muslims. However, I seriously doubt you think that all Christians are like the crazy cults you find in remote parts of the US.
-
And the Daenerys' magic that makes her fireproof should not have some visible effect because..... The overwhelming majority of acid attack perpetrators are men, so I guess that means all men want to throw acid on women? Did you honestly just say that? You're telling me that when people throw rocks at peaceful Muslims or firebomb Mosques they're not being racist they're just expressing their distaste for Islamic doctrine? For real? And yet you're giving Christians a free pass while assuming that all Muslims adhere to the Quran as rigidly as possible?
-
And when you're fireproof does that mean your skin should look this? You're saying that Buffy's strength is impossible but that's the whole point of magic; to do the impossible. Did you read the rest of the replies because both of your less than clever retorts were already attempted others. To summarize: 1) The people getting acid thrown on them (and the ones throwing it) in India are Hindu (look at pretty much any article on the topic in India and notice how many women are dressed in traditionally Hindu garb). 2) While Islamophobia is not racism, per se, using the term racism when referring to hate against Muslims is generally accepted (even in the academic community). Regardless of whether you call it racism or Islamophobia, though, what the poster I was replying to said did originate from a position of ignorance (if not outright hate). Also, have you ever read the Bible, because that book advocates for some pretty brutal ****. You see, extremists of EVERY stripe are ****ing insane; it's not something that's unique to Islam.
-
Except that Branch Davidians are not in positions of power. Extremist Muslims are in power in quite a few Muslim countries. Which means all Muslims are terrorists that want to hurl acid at women? Those in power are very rarely the same as the populations which they lord over.
-
Look up "Effects of Soviet Invasion on Afghanistan". It was that little thing that helped the Taliban rise and turn a modern and liberal country into a backwater ****hole where religious extremists rule, kind of like Alabama. That was the point; being Muslim does not automatically equate to oppressing women. The oppression comes from general misogyny (dressed up in this case as religious extremism). The Taliban have no more in common with everyday Muslims than the Branch Davidians did with Christians from the suburbs.

Jeremy Soule?
Dream replied to LordsWeapon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
They should get Thomas Bergersen up in this piece; make the game sound like one long movie trailer . -
Well, personally, I want P:E to be a fun video game and not the next champion of the "games are art" crowd; leave that **** to pretentious indie developer douche bags like Jonathan Blow. Why not both? P::T was the closest example of video games are art i can think of but it was still a fun game Nothing wrong with being both, but don't go include "dark and edgy" subject matter just to make the game more "real". However, if the story happens to call for it then go big.

A dog companion?
Dream replied to bonarbill's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yea but I'd prefer something besides a dog (gogo zergling!). -
Okay, Let's just agree to disagree at this point it's pretty clear I'm not going to convince you of anything, and this isn't the focus of the thread anyway...so back on track. Agree to disagree about what? You being a racist ****? Steer it back to what? You're blatantly being racist and you want to have a discussion about how this video game should discriminate against women? Seriously?
-
That may be because you're still doing it... I've been replying to your statements, not the other way around. You can't start a discussion, steer it one way and then accuse people of hijacking it when the direction you chose to go blows up in your face. Muslim is a race? That's really all you got out of what I said? What happened to "wanting to learn new things?" Besides that, read the key phrases for this article (Journal of Sociology). I suppose I could have used the term Islamophobia, but I was pretty confident even you would understand me (shows what I know).
-
I don't see where I derailed your thread (hell, you derailed your own thread if anything). By the way, learning new **** implies actually learning from it, not acknowledging you were dead wrong and then continuing on with your same faulty assumptions. There are muslims in India...also why are you still on this? The people I was responding to dropped it, lets follow their example. So the fact that Muslims are present in a country is reason enough to attribute bad things that happen in that country to Muslims? Damn, talk about racism. Search acid throwing victim on google images and look at how many are wearing traditionally Hindu garb (hint: those that are aren't Muslims). Also the people you were responding didn't drop it; if anything they got tired of you shouting at them and decided to ignore you (imagine that).
-
They could get around that with 1 line though. "It's easier for women to access their souls." Boom, reverse sexism makes sense and is "realistic."
-
Seriously? That's where you're getting your history from? An action flick? When you argue with people it's usually a good idea to know what the **** you're actually talking about (whether it's history or fiction). I do like how anytime someone calls you out on your BS you just go "I never claimed to be an expert!" like that's some kind of defense (especially considering how adamant you were in your statements). Except India is one of the biggest offenders of such attacks and there the overwhelming majority is Hindu. But I guess you probably never claimed to be an expert at that either, right?
-
Aren't you kind of proving the point that a smaller, lighter opponent can beat a larger one? A lot of it is genetics (which River had top notch to begin with and then was given even better through crazy experiments) which determine the natural strength of one's muscles. Besides, if you're well trained you can pull those moves off even easier in a real fight since, as you said, your opponent will have a lot more momentum (being a telepath doesn't hurt either). Now that'd be funny.
-
It's the only way to make a work mature, raw, and/or real (did I miss any other buzz words), didn't you know?
-
That's a rather PC way of saying "I'm wrong." The only reason it's "still silly" is because you don't want to completely swallow your own bull****, but I'll take the W. Did you even watch the video? That chick looked less toned and about the same size as River and she was throwing that dude around rather easily. As for why the opinion of a woman matters; it's because you thinking you know better than women about what is sexist towards them is, in fact, sexism. Additionally, earlier you said: Are you now retracting that statement and replacing it with "the sorts of strong women you see in anime or Whedon's ****e are made for both genders, but I personally do not care for them"? Also, don't complain about fan service and then use Red Sonja as a counterpoint; makes you look a tad... out of touch... would be a polite way of saying it. It "helps" for a female fighter to look like a man because, what, female fighters shouldn't look feminine? Also I did not realize that, you live in the future. I mean how else would you know about all the light weight alloys they may have or all the advances in muscle therapy they may have developed. Yea..... (A sword made of modern low density high strength alloys would be light as **** compared to medieval weapons by the way).
-
First off, the powers of the characters you mentioned aren't magical, so that point is moot. Second, you obviosuly don't understand what verisimilitude is. Its synonymous with plausibility. Nowhere in fire-fly (IIRC) does it say that river has technologically enhanced strength. She's an emaciated fourteen year old girl with a fourteen year old's musculature. No matter how awesome she is at space karate, its not really PLAUSIBLE to see someone with that frame cold **** or throw grown men around a room. Valeria and Red Sonja from REH's conan stories would both fit the bill of a female warrior for me and neither one was a "butch she-man" they just weren't innocent looking weaklings. I'm not sure what planet you live on where female fighters either have to be emaciated anime waifs or buff transexuals. If that's not magic, then neither is whatever the **** Daenerys has (asbestos skin?). Also, do you know anything about martial arts? Like, at all? It's beyond easy to throw or knock down an opponent twice your weight or more if you have the proper training ( ). In fact, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Summer Glau would probably kick your ass in real life; just saying. Finally, have you ever asked an actual women about her opinion on this subject? Most I've talked to are big fans of Buffy, River, and Daenerys, but when asked about Brienne all I get is "why can't she be a little prettier?" and "why does the only woman on this show that can fight have to look like a man?" Edit: Also, Red Sonja, really? I mean I like it but it's hardly a shining example to support your point.
-
Except Daenerys being able withstand an inferno is totally at odds with her physical appearance of being a human. How is a fantastic ability based on magic that makes one strong out of the question but a fantastic ability based on magic that makes one fireproof is not (after all, improved strength is a staple spell in fantasy right up there with fire protection)? Also you say that the rogue should be sexy, but then what is the problem with River since that's basically what she is. She was strong, yes, but not unreasonably so (not like Buffy or Faith); she was simply very fast, extremely skilled, and telepathic (so she could predict her opponents moves). Besides that, who knows what kind of technology is available in the future that would allow one to alter the muscle density of a human (which, again, is a hell of a lot more realistic than "magical blood makes you fireproof"). Edit: Really when you think about it you're the sexist one here because in your mind the only women that should be allowed to fight are giant butch she-men.
-
Or the "blood of the dragon," which, I ask again, is different how, exactly, from being a Slayer or having been enhanced with future tech (at least River's powers have some basis in science)? Unless you're telling us that magic in your blood making you fireproof is reasonable but magic in your blood making you super strong is not; in which case I can TOTALLY see where you're coming from. Like I said earlier; I'm a fan of both, but saying that one is more "realistic" than the other is a bit ridiculous.
