The watcher has been told first hand what happens to people that tell other people that their gods are fake. I don't think the watcher is keen on putting a target on their back and become another Iovara. I also think that for us it would have been boring to replay Iovaras's story just with the watcher in her footsteps. And here comes the thing about "proving" that Gods aren't real (independent from what "real" or "fake" means): Belief trumps evidence. Always. That's the thing about belief. Your own god could appear in front of you and tell you that he is fake. You think that could stop a religious person? I would guess they'd see it as some kind of test of their belief. They would think their god is testing them. And probably that would strengthen their belief. If you try to prove a god is not real you would have to find some kind of proof that is valid from a true believer's point of view, not just your point of view! But the very definition of being religious is, that a true believer would never accept anything that would decry their religion and shatter their belief. People believe what they want to believe. And people need to believe. And some people would rather kill someone who'd try to make them second guess their belief than to actually start doing just that.

Well not quite. You see the problem is, that "might" starts with an "m", just like "muscle". Hence it's only logical to assume that "might" can only mean physical strength. Of course you could try to see "might" as some kind of abstract attribute of power (be that power physical or non-physical in nature) but for very sensible and obvious reasons you shouldn't do that. The reasons are so obvious in fact, that I need not name them and yet everyone will know them anyway.

Well, uhm, well, you know I am not fond of these changes. But it's not like my opinion has more weight than that of my fellow BIB backers. And more of them voted for yes than for no and Boeroer did give a good reason for why it should be a club. I guess, I'll live... somehow... The Kapana Taga is not an obsidian sword anymore... and it has been nerfed... If you'd excuse me now, I'm gonna cry and lick my wounds...

Could you scroll down a bit and show me if anything has changed in the description of the Kapana Taga with the latest beta patch?

In other words, Deadfire is selling so badly that not only a Pillars of Eternity 3 is totally out of question, but Obsidian is also at the brink of bankruptcy and may very well close down for good soon. There you have it. That is what you wanted. The worst possible scenario. JUMP AT IT! Bask in the negativity. Oh yes, it's so bad! Think I can add a little bit more of negativity? You bet! Because let's be honest, it is soon one month after release and the game is still in an UNPLAYABLE completely BROKEN state. So Obsidian closing down is only what they deserve for delivering such a complete mess. Not to mention all the things in the game that THE majority doesn't even like, like the main story, the characters, the side quests, the combat, the music.... Note: There may be traces of sarcasm in this post. If you find them, you may keep them.

I'd guess it's the HDD. Doubling the RAM wouldn't hurt either, but you said the game was running smoothly. HDD are relics from ancient times. You would be amazed how much SSD can speed up loading processes and also booting for example.

Well for me it's plain as day and night that "in real" it's about muslim women only, while they pretend that it's about any kind of masks. So I'd guess we are at the point where we agree to disagree and move on

But they can't express that in a law. Because such a law would very probably be against the Austrian constitution for the very fact that it would be discriminatory. So they had to find a law that bans burkas and such but that was not discriminatory. And their solution was to ban any kind of anything that covers the face.

Nope. They don't punch it through with the arguments of burkas. They can't. They are not allowed to. That would be discriminatory. And in order to not discriminate they must forbid any kind of anything that covers the face. Doing that they can't be accused of being discriminatory. Because as you can see, even people wearing shark costumes or scarves in their face are forbidden from doing so. They don't care for shark costumes or scarves, however. They ONLY care for burkas and similiar veils. It's really just to get muslim women who cover their faces.

Should Groucho Marx glasses be outlawed too? Yes! Just as shark costumes, as it was done in Austria! And don't even think about putting a scarf around your neck when it's not really cold!

Maybe the thread should be moved to the spoiler section of the forum? I mean, how is anyone going to defend the story without talking about the story?

Damn, I saw an "r" where there was none...

I haven't played the game yet. I won't have time to do it for many more months. (Regarding spoilers: I don't mind mild spoilers, or I wouldn't be hanging around here). The thing is, from my point of view, it is very hard what to expect from Deadfire. While the game has relatively high scores on Metacritic and Steam, I see many people here and also on Steam who express what they don't like about the game. Not only is the main storyline allegedly mediocre to very bad. But the characters are allegedly bland with no depth at all. The side quests are boring. The music is bad. I'm reading so many negative things here and on Steam. Do I need to expect one of the "worst games ever" when I play the game? And that is how a Steam review actually called the game, "the worst game ever". I don't understand how that matches the relatively high scores on Metacritic and on Steam. A thread like this also worries me. "In Defense of the Story" - such a title makes me wonder why the story would need someone to defend it in the first place. If there was nothing wrong with the story why would anyone feel they need to defend it? All of this makes me want to ask you: Is Deadfire really THAT bad?

Physical copy of the game is not the same as physical rewards. To my knowledge there are physical game boxes, yes, but they contain a Steam Installer on a DVD. Not the game itself on a DVD. The only way to get a physical copy of the game is the physical copy from THQ Nordic as far as I know.

Kraken stretch goal was not reached. Personally I do consider it a spoiler when I get confirmation that something is not in the game. Knowing what is not in a game can spoil it just as much as knowing what is in it. But I don't think that that's a common opinion. And that's fine

Wow. Interesting. I remember how Storm of Zehir reminded me of Heroes of Might and Magic, exactly because of the overland map. That's why I was so intrigued by Storm of Zehir. How could a roleplaying game give me the feeling of a HoMM game? That was quite an interesting experience for me. No, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is. Closely followed by Heroes of Might and Magic 2. And no that is not only my personal, subjective opinion but also known, objective, fact. Deal with it.
