RIP Jeremy Bulloch. May the bounties be plentiful and always pay in full up in the Great Sarlacc Pit in the sky.

Just got updated and the ETA for my Nitro+ is mid to late January. I wish it were sooner, but at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2020/12/wasteland-3-now-available-on-linux-from-inxile-entertainment The long awaited (mainly by me, I don't know that we have many, if any, other Linux gamers here) Wasteland 3 Linux version has arrived. Next time it's discounted I will scoop it up immediately.

But only if you can spend real money on said casino games.

There's no release date yet, but if I had to guess then I would say March or April for Rocket Lake. I figure you want to stick with Intel, so if you wanted to also upgrade your CPU then that timing isn't too bad, if it happens that way, that is.

I finished Yakuza: Like a Dragon, fantastic game. It's essentially Dragon Quest in the Yakuza universe and as weird as that may sound it works really well. The ending... *deep breath* You want to talk about emotional, holy **** it was intense. Ryu Ga Gotoku sure know how to end a game. -
That sounds like a feature rather than a bug.

I would think and hope that Ampere's RT performance will be outclassed by whatever comes after Ampere. Waiting for the next, faster series is a dangerous game, since there's always something better and faster coming soon, especially with how fast computer tech advances. You gotta just pick a time to upgrade/build new and get the best bang for your buck at that time. A year or two later something better will come along, but that's always going to be the case, regardless of when you build.

Given that the Kingpins tend to be the most expensive variants of GPUs, I imagine a 3090 is around 2 grand, if not more, retail. I shudder to think what the scalpers charge for it. Great card, though, no doubt about that.

For gaming, absolutely. Right now, 6c/12t is plenty. I do think eventually 6 core chips will fall behind a bit as games are increasingly optimized for the new 8c/16t consoles. I do some video editing and encoding, 12 or 16 cores would be of benefit there for sure, but it's not something I do constantly and the 5800X won't exactly struggle, especially not compared to my aging (it served me well) Haswell.

I got my waterblock ordered from Aquatuning.us, which is Alphacool's US distributor. The great thing is that it's specifically designed for the 6800XT Nitro+. Other manufacturers currently only have reference 6800XT waterblocks. I could have almost certainly made a waterblock for a reference 6800XT work since the Nitro+ PCB layout is extremely similar, though not identical, but it's better to get a waterblock made specifically for my exact card. Shipping is brutal since it's coming from Germany, but such is life. I now have absolutely everything I need ordered. The CPU should come late December/early January, the waterblock early January, and the GPU...

I wasn't going to OC a 5950X or a 5900X, but I will try to OC the 5800X. The reason being that, for gaming, most of the time and all-core overclock is counterproductive unless you can OC it up to single core max boost speed, or at least within 100 MHz or so. Zero chance I was going to be able to OC a 5950X to 4.9 GHz all-core. I was probably not going to get 4.8 GHz on a 5900X. Getting 4.7 GHz on a 5800X is definitely possible on water cooling, 4.8 is not out of the question. Now, excuse me while I prepare the altar for the sacrifices I'll be making to the Silicon Lottery Gods.

I managed to snag a 5800X off Amazon. Initially I targeted a 5900X, then talked myself into 5950X, then came to my senses and targeted 5900X again, then ultimately bought the 5800X because, well, because I was actually able to get one at MSRP. It's still a MASSIVE performance jump from my i7-4790K. and if I'm feeling core envy later I'll just sell it and pick up a 5900 XT when the inevitable refresh launches shortly after the Rocket Lake announcement (you know it's coming). More importantly, I now have an actual complete rig... well, not in hand, it's still theoretical, but it's more real than it was a few days ago when I didn't even have a CPU and GPU ordered, so... baby steps. I'll write a new post in the specs thread once I physically have everything.

You can turn those off in the options menu. -
Yeah, here in Murica the scalpers have turned the pricing structure into a farce, so when I found a card at retail-ish prices, albeit the expensive price normally associated with a Nitro+, I jumped on it. Who knows how long this **** is going to go on?

Dorf, now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time.

I've got a Sapphire 6800 XT Nitro+ ordered. Now I just need a CPU... and a GPU waterblock, but I can at least run it with the stock fans until I get the waterblock... but not without a CPU. Kind of a waste to eventually take off what is a high quality triple fan cooler, but the PCB is top-shelf, and that's what I was really after. 2700 MHz (maybe even 2800 MHz) here I come!

I ain't gonna lie, the McRib is an annual tradition of mine. Every year I get super excited to get one, eat it, then regret it almost immediately. I then have zero desire to have one for an entire year. As an aside, I do practically the same ritual with egg nog.

The hotly anticipated follow up is here: This series has more coherent storytelling than the new Star Wars trilogy.

I've never been a proponent of Taco Tuesday. As far as I'm concerned, every day is a good day for tacos.

Event Horizon is great, though I lack the stomach to rewatch it.

I'm into the late stages of Yakuza: Like a Dragon. I somewhat have my final party composition figured out. I'll roll with Kasuga as Hero (all around), Saeko as Hostess (DPS caster), Nanba as either Musician or Fortuneteller (healer/support), and Eri as Matriarch (DPS fighter). In reserve Adachi as Detective (tank), Zhao as Chef (support), and Joon-gi Han as Hitman (DPS fighter). You can tag in a reserve any time(costs you a turn) so it pays to keep them sharp. I think I'm already slightly overleveled for the end game so I won't be grinding much more. I'll save getting to lev 99 for NG+.
