  2. The problem with the Black Widow character is that she's essentially invulnerable to damage. Compare that to Atomic Blonde where Charlize Theron goes through a lengthy and extremely brutal fight. Halfway through the fight she's battered, bruised, bleeding profusely, and can barely stand up, which makes the fight visceral and tense. As soon as I see ScarJo get literally exploded through a building and walk away without so much as a single scratch on her my brain says "nothing matters."
  3. I'm already looking forward to the inevitable moment where Underrail kicks you in the crotch again.
  4. Yeah, my experiences with ASUS is that there's always one or two little things that make me sigh and say "God dammit ASUS you were so close to having a truly great product." In the case of the Strix G15 Advantage I got there are 2 issues, luckily I can rectify 1 and bypass the other: 1) They used RAM with some downright dismal secondary timings. Ryzen CPUs are especially sensitive to RAM speed and timings. 2) They routed the Radeon 6800M through the iGPU in the Ryzen 5900HX, which costs some performance. Here's a video about it: The RAM I can swap, I'll keep an eye out for a good deal. I mainly output to a monitor in my truck anyway, but my current monitor doesn't have USB-C, so I use HDMI. Unfortunately, unlike the USB-C, which goes directly to the 6800M, HDMI does still route through the iGPU. My monitor is ancient (close to 8 yrs) and I had every intention of replacing it anyway since it's starting to light bleed pretty bad along the bottom, especially the corners, plus I want to get a monitor that does 100+ MHz and has freesync. I'll just have to make sure the new monitor has USB-C, which is fairly standard for any decent brand these days. Even with the issues the G15 was a great value and is a beastly performer. It will be that much better once I get the issues sorted. It looks great and actually has a touchpad that's not complete garbage.
  5. The GPU gave up the ghost. First artifact city then no output. Oh well. Edit: Also, typo in my post. Processor is R9 5900HX, not 5800HX.
  6. Welp, I didn't intend to get a new laptop until sometime next year, but those plans changed when my current lappy bit the dust a couple days ago. Wound up getting the ASUS ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition with a Ryzen 9 5900HX, 16 GB RAM, and Radeon 6800M graphics. It has a a 512 GB nvme SSD and 3 more slots, one easily accessible and 2 more hidden away. I put a 2 TB Sabrent Rocket in the easy to get to slot. I'm currently in the process of installing Fedora 34 Linux on it.
  7. I have no issue with someone doing another take on We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, the mistake was also calling it Total Recall. I get why they did ($$) but that immediately invites comparison with Verhoeven's masterpiece.
  8. If we go back a ways the John Carpenter's The Thing was a great remake.
  9. I wish Hollywood wouldn't remake Paul Verhoeven's classics. What are the odds the new director's vision and execution will be better than Verhoeven's? Practically nil. Remake movies that had a good premise but came up short on implementation, not movies that are already amazing and still absolutely hold up.
  10. I'm going to AEW Dynamite at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte tomorrow. First live wrestling show, or any live event, for that matter, since the pandemic. I'm super excited.
  11. I've always been partial to this: For a "seriously?" reaction.

  14. The bigger jar is staying home the smaller jar is going on the road.
  15. If nothing else, it's better than the Ghostbusters 2016 trailer. Granted, that's not exactly a high bar to clear; 2 1/2 minutes of static would be better than the Ghostbusters 2016 trailer.
  16. I think both Riker and Troi are interesting cases. Riker was clearly a back up plan in case audiences rejected Picard and wanted someone more like Kirk as the lead. Once it was obvious Picard was a success, Riker got sort of shuffled back into more of a background character. Troi was a character the show had to, somewhat regularly, make disappear because otherwise she would instantly resolve the situation given her empath abilities. So writers had to come up with reasons she couldn't be around to deal with the A story by putting her in a B story or just ignoring her.
  17. I wonder why they never followed through with the Picard and Dr. Crusher romance angle? They were clearly shipping them early on, then it was completely forgotten for 4 or 5 seasons, then near the end somebody seemed to remember that they were supposed to have feelings for each other and they paid lip service to it in an episode or two in season 6 or 7 and that's pretty much all we got.
  18. I ain't even gonna hate on Nic Cage for getting into financial problems. You wanna talk about living your best life? My man bought a castle and dinosaurs skulls. That's some Bond villain $#!+. Respect.
  19. I don't hate season 1 as much as most people. There are some epidodes that feel quite a bit like TOS epidodes. If you could erase Wesley, S1 would be decently watchable, but man, Wesley was INSUFFERABLE. Season 2 has some legitimately good episodes, but there's some garbage to wade through to get to them.
