Description of the issue: Flipping through the choices of the Druid shapeshift forms in char creation shows a few of them being pretty far too big for that character model window. The worst is the bear. DETAILED list of steps to reproduce the issue: Example: 1) Start New Game 2) Pick any sex and race 3) Flip through the Druid shapeshift forms, and lo and behold, a behemoth! Expected behaviour: The model of the shapeshift form should be visible more or less in its entirety, and not being eclipsed at resolution 1920x1080.

[435] Game freezes after pressing New Game
IndiraLightfoot posted a question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Description of the issue: I press New Game, and then the game freezes when the cam pans up to the stone relief face while the text "Obsidian Entertainment Presents" is showing. Steps to reproduce the issue: Example: 1) Start PoE Beta 435 on PC, Steam 2) Select New Game 3) Game soon freezes. Expected behaviour: PoE beta keeps running. First crash of this kind so far. EDIT: After two more tries, I am happy to say that the game started. I have no idea why this happened twice in a row. No other process was running in the background, and it's the same PC I've been using all along, with no updates of any significance. The last graphic card update was well before X-Mas. -
I see what you mean. As long as the thread pruning is done in accordance with the Obsidian forum rules, I don't see much of a problem. However, I know that there are redditors that won't even allow memes and emoticons, or even vids, etc, just because they are too much of slapping red herrings in people's faces, Monty Python-style, as it were, whereas I realldy do appreciate those kinds of posts - I have had heaps of lols here at the Obsidian forums from funny memes and such. So, a generous amount of freedom would be much appreciated, but also faster and more active thread trimming if something gets out of hand. Hopefully, we can get the best of both worlds, so that fires get put out quickly, while we get to enjoy entertaining and creative rebuttals in whatever form, images, videos or whatever.

I'll will most certainly try my best. "Don't be a jerk" is almost a standard forum rule nowadays. For instance, it's always readable on the sidebar over at Reddit, for instance, like this: "Subreddit Rules Keep it friendly and focused; don't be a jerk. Abusive behavior and discrimination against others will not be tolerated." Reddit also have, just like the Obsidian forums, and pretty much any decent internet forum, their own rules of the community. In addition, reddiquette is an informal expression of the values of many redditors, as written by redditors themselves, like: "Please do Remember the human. When you communicate online, all you see is a computer screen. When talking to someone you might want to ask yourself "Would I say it to the person's face?" or "Would I get jumped if I said this to a buddy?" Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life. Please don't Be (intentionally) rude at all. By choosing not to be rude, you increase the overall civility of the community and make it better for all of us. Conduct personal attacks on other commenters. Ad hominem and other distracting attacks do not add anything to the conversation. Start a flame war. Just report and "walk away". If you really feel you have to confront them, leave a polite message with a quote or link to the rules, and no more. Insult others. Insults do not contribute to a rational discussion. Constructive Criticism, however, is appropriate and encouraged. Troll. Trolling does not contribute to the conversation. If we at least tried to abide by this kind of sensible rules of decency, it'd be a good start. I know I will most certainly try do so, personally, anyways. Sarex did raise the important point of sociocultural differences in regards to debating and bantering, so we need to be extra aware of our differences when it comes to how we express our ideas and feelings, and also how these may or may not be perceived. There will always be things we feel strongly about, and sometimes you will come across people who have views and opinions which are even diametrically opposed to your own. Does this mean we can run roughshod over any holder of opinions contrary to our own? No. Do people who completely disagree with you automatically qualify as targets, soon in for some slandering or mockery? Once again, no. Still, is debating fun? Hell, yes! So, we just need to stick to our points, be as constructive as possible, and at the same time, steer clear of our worst (vindictive) instincts when our views and opinions get questioned.

Lovely post, Osvir! You are absolutely right. I certainly would like to take this opportunity to apologize to any of you who's had the misfortune of experiencing me on my worst behaviour. If I offended you or simply was a jerk, I am very sorry for that. I got carried away and let my own frustrations get the better of me.

As a big fan of NWN2, FO:NV and several other games that the good folks at Obsidian have made, I just want to get this off of my chest, so here goes! (The similarity of this exclamation to what Khelgar Ironfist uttered on a certain pivotal occasion in a certain formerly bugbear-infested cave is just incidental). I apologize to Obsidian for any harsh words of mine. I've made a few posts that have come across as overly entitled, needy or even self-righteous, and often it's been a matter of mere minutiae in a computer game (PoE). Most of the time, I've written these posts with good intentions, and in a few cases to further stuff I believe in (far too strongly, I mean, it's just stuff in a CRPG). I also apologize in a more general manner, on a community level, for the vitriolic atmosphere that has slowly eaten its way into your forums. Obviously, I can't speak for the entire community, not even a few of the people who have frequented these boards over the years, but to me, at least, it's been a bit scary to see all too many threads turn into toxic cesspools of latent frustration and uninhibited reptile-brain responses. I have no intention of growing any harder skin than I have. My view of what constitutes acceptable behaviour or not will always be a bit more old-fashioned than many young ones, to be sure, who are clearly much more laissez faire and much more post-2010 in their internet habits. At times, I have let myself down and become pretty spiteful and appalling in tone, at least in retrospect. For this, I am truly sorry. There are ways to criticize people, hard-working devs included, without resorting to snarky remarks and know-it-all besserwisserness. Failing to do so is our burden to bear, and it certainly becomes embarrassing and draining pretty quick. Some common decency, nice courtesy and mutual respect would go a long way - the same goes for a positive attitude and an optimistic spirit. If we all could stick to such simple and civilized ideals, we would do these forums a huge favour. Anybody should feel safe to post here on the Obsidian forums, always! He or she should be properly welcomed, respectfully treated and included in the basic format of assumed social civility that I hope most of us keep up in our face-to-face relationships at work and at home. Well, that's just me, having spoken my piece. Peace and love! Indira

Perhaps. Harebrained Schemes, especially after the release of their praised Dragonfall, are now doing very well over at Kickstarter.

Indeed, you have to kill the guardian to get the two-pronged choice. Well, I just reached paragon level 100, and just in that festive spirit, guess what just dropped? My third ancient legendary, and my first Marauder set piece: an absolutely excellent 3-socket Marauder Carapace. Even without any gems in it, it's clearly better than the legendary cloak I was wearing. WOOT!!!

What happens if there's double-goblin buff and then you wear a helm that copies each found gem when you find a pair of gem hoarders? Well, I found two pairs in a row, so I got hundreds of gems of each kind on T3! My DH is now so decent that it has stepped up to T3, where it survives rifts pretty comfortably. Unfortunately, I had to swap my gem-helmet for a Mempo of Twilight that was better on all accounts. I have found two ancient legendaries now: a weapon (unfortuntately a weird 2H crossbow without a socket, so I need to craft it before I see what it's worth, and ancient fire walker boots for a strength character, so I let my Crusader have it. In addition to all this, I just found my first legendary potion (instan 60% heal, +15 armor for 30 s), so I'm having a blast here!

The truly honest answer is not because the dev team is ignoring you (by you I mean backers, not specifically you). We see things like that and it gets put onto a list that we are constantly reprioritizing based on what we feel is most important to the player experience. I know there are many people that would disagree with how we prioritizing some of the items, but the reality is that there is a TON of stuff that needs to get done and not a lot of people to do it. Sometimes things will get left out until we feel comfortable with some of the core features/UI/gameplay. For example, our UI is done by Kaz (Art/Design) and Brian (Programming). All of the UI in the entire game is done by those two folks and we have an enormous amount of it. Keep in mind that every decision we make has consequences that ripple throughout the game. We could take Brian and Kaz off what they are doing, but then we would be getting fixes to the combat log, HUD, extra portraits, etc.. It is always a give and take. The Stronghold UI definitely needs some extra love, but it is just lower on the list of items right now. I'll promise you, though, that some of that screen will get revised over the next two months before launch. No worries, Brandon. It was all tongue in cheek, basically hinting at light text on light wood is a bad idea to begin with.

I play on T1 and sometimes T2, and so far none. A guy on US.battlenet played 150 rifts, T6, and found 3, so they are hard to come by. I just wish playing on higher Grift levels or T-levels would reward you with better items, including ancient ones.

It looks like I'll be dreaming about a new ancient weapon. *drool* On Ancient Items (from Diablo Wiki): Ancient Items were added into the game in Patch 2.1.2 after extensive testing on the PTR. These are level 70 Legendary Items with a special "Ancient" designation which grants higher values to most of the affixes on the item, including the damage roll on weapons. Ancient Legendary Items can be big upgrades over non-Ancient versions of the same item since they will have higher values to most affixes, but ancient items are not guaranteed to be better since they might not roll with ideal affixes for a specific character or build. Appearance Ancient items look identical when the drop; there is no way to tell if an item has rolled ancient until it is ID'ed. Once identified, Ancient items have an orange border (green for set items) around the outside of the item tooltip, and say "Ancient" in the item name. Frequency A small % of level 70 legendary items from all sources found on Torment 1 or higher will spawn as Ancient. Ancient items can come from all sources; monster or chest drops, gambling, Horadric Caches, or crafting. (Crafting can produce Ancient, including an Ancient Hellfire Ring or Hellfire Amulet.) The odds increase on higher levels of Torment, from around 1.5% on Torment 1 up to 10% on Torment 6 (from monster drops). It's not yet known how the odds of an item being ancient are set for Gambling or Crafting, since if they were tied to difficulty level, players would just create Torment 6 games to do their gambling and crafting. Affix Values Not all affixes are affected by Ancient. Those that are will always roll with higher numbers on an Ancient item. Examples: Mainstat or vitality rolls at 500-750 on normal legendary gloves and 751-1000 on Ancient legendary gloves. Mainstat or vitality rolls at 416-500 to normal legendary rings and 501-600 on an Ancient legendary ring. ResAll rolls 80-100 on normal armor and rings, and 101-120 on Ancient armor and rings. Not Ancient Boosted Some affixes are not boosted by occurring on an Ancient item, and these include many of the most powerful affixes in the game. Affixes not affected by Ancient include: Critical hit Chance Critical hit Damage Attack Speed +Elemental Damage % to a single element. +Damage to Elites Socketed (There are not additional sockets nor better odds for an ancient item to be socketed.) All special Legendary Affixes are unchanged by Ancient items. Value by Item Type One major point of debate concerning Ancient Items during their PTR testing was the varying utility by item slot. An ancient item of the same type with good affixes was always a big upgrade, but since Ancient items are as random as all other items, in the game, they were more or less likely to be useful depending on the item slot. Ancient weapons were the most useful, with guaranteed much higher damage than on any non-Ancient item. Ancient Armor was sometimes a big upgrade, with potentially much higher rolls to mainstat and vitality and resistance, but with so many potential affixes on armor it's quite rare to find an ancient piece with bonuses to the properties a character requires. For instance, a typical build would require shoulders with +mainstat, +vitality, +res all, and +%damage to a specific skill. A non-ancient item with all of those would never be improved upon by an ancient version of the same item with only 2 or 3 of those properties. Ancient Jewelry is the least improved by Ancient, since most of the best modifiers on jewelry, including crit hit, crit chance, +elemental damage, attack speed, and socket, are unaffected by Ancient. The only likely boost on top end jewelry is to the +mainstat, which is nice to increase with Ancient, but is only worth a couple of hundred points to stat, and thus never worth using at the expense of any of the other affixes. Few players on the PTR testing of patch 2.1.2 were able to find ancient versions of jewelry that were upgrades over non-ancient jewelry, since players found at least 10x more non-ancient legendary jewelry items and it usually takes dozens of pieces of jewelry to find one with close to ideal stats.

OK, now I get it. Ranks in GR is one thing. And rank 25 or what not on a gem is something else, something that's solely dependent on you levelling the gem via that ghost lady at the end of any GR, so it has nothing to with you reaching GR levels in that respect.
-
Thx! As for 2: Currently, since I've not reached rank 25, my two leg. gems have one attribute each that's greyed out, obviously. But when I finally reach rank 25 in a GR, they will work in accordance with the description. However, if I use that gem in any normal non-GR-place in D3, that rank 25 attribute (bonus) means nothing, or?

Hmm, and "strix" in Latin means owl. Something is not entirely correct about that vampire word list. Or maybe not. It turns out, it's an ancient Greek myth, with blood-sucking creatures - think of the RPG-monster "stirge" -

Tianak - vampire baby DAY 1 DLC! $4.99 Vampire diaper - let them suck that! -
Two more legendary gem questions: 1) Can you level up socketed legendary gems, or do they have to be non-socketed? The latter would make it more expensive, that's for sure. 2) Stupid one: The attribute with a rank, say rank 25, surely it only works when you're playing in ranked GFs at 25 or higher? D3 doesn't remember your success and let you use it at that capacity forever more, no?

Ahem. In Swedish, "vampyr" is the proper spelling of vampire, so I may say the same about "vampire". -

This sounds absolutely fantastic - almost too good to be true! Here's how hard I'm keeping my fingers crossed: -
I'm just crafting it onto them, using some money and ingredients. Unfortunately, my amulet refuses to randomize into a socket, but for my two legendary rings, it worked within two tries per ring.
-
Gfted1, thx a bunch! Interesting, so every new GR started is like those cursed chest events, where you get swarmed with monsters, wave after wave. From that, the game deduces a GF rank, and off you go, until you run out of steam. Cool!
-
Malc: Yeah, before Christmas, I read about them Marauders being the way to go - so far I have zero Marauders, so I have plenty to find yet. Alright, and I guess that means that you don't get a new GR keystone with an updated rank on it, so then I'll have to use a new one. It won't be given back to me with the same rank, rather it's consumed? EDIT: Silly me! This question just above, Malc already answered! Will it be like the first time, though, every time? D3 tested my mettle, and then gave me a starting level for the GR, as it were? And my last question: For those two legendary gems I do have, what does upgrading one of them entail? Will that rank-25-improvement on it become even more elusive, like rank 30, or is there any immediate benefit for a non-rank-25 like me?
