Removing non class specific talents was a bad idea
IndiraLightfoot replied to Boeroer's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Like I said. If I had it my way, you could build your very own character, talent by talent, proficiency by proficiency, and skill by skill. So I wouldn't really want any spells or talents to be unique to a certain "class". EDIT: Come to think of it, classless CRPGs are very rare. PoE1 had quite a bit of that vibe, but how sweet wouldn't be to see Deadfire set free character creation wise? That's true roleplaying, at least in one sense. Josh, it's not too late! -

I for one would have loved a classless system in Deadfire and PoE1, just like Josh and his RPG version of Pillars of Eternity. Alas... -

I hear you. The solution is surely a mix of fighter getting early access to a few of these skills, as well as making som fighter versions of skills that are slightly better than that available to other classes, and finally adding one or two new talents, unique to the single class fighter. -

Looks pretty good to me. Yeah, this seems pretty fine. Now, the single classes just need a bit more meat, especially as far as the casters and choices within each single class go. Do they? Now they pick spells AND some passive talents to make them weapon proficient. Unless non casting classes get some love (fighters, rangers, rogues, monks) spellcaster mght end up being crazy powerful. Sorry guys, it's late at night over here. I meant: "Now, the single classes just need a bit more meat, especially as far as the martials and choices within each single class go." -

Two weapon proficiencies and a boost of defences definitely. I rarely use more than two weapon types on any given character anyway. In fact I already disliked the fact that I'd end up picking proficiencies I'd never use, so the change has an added bonus for me. Yeah, that's an easy choice. I didn't like being pushed into superfluous weapon proficencies. -

Beta patch info from Josh's Twitter

This sounds very promising, and easily moddable global settings for more experimentation. -

Rather, what did I see today: Early this morning. The first snow of the season. Thin sugary, frosty coat on everything in the garden. A pheasant rooster and his harem of eight chickens frenetically pecking windfalls. Bits of pear and apple peels got stuck on their piercing beaks, and they had become a bit tipsy from the old fruit. Reeling, they left meandering tracks in the melting white blanket. No flying away this time from our cats. Magpies warning chatter fell on deaf ears. But the pheasants have been pounced so many times, and nothing bad ever happens, so they waddled to the tall-grassed field with impunity.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - 'NON-FAKE-NEWS EDITION'
IndiraLightfoot replied to Rosbjerg's topic in Computer and Console
I wonder, you always hear about the drama queen, yet we never hear about the drama king. Where is he? Has he passed on? Is he having a secret affair with the duchess of comedy? According to the first online Dictionary I googled: drama king noun informal noun: drama king; plural noun: drama kings a male individual who habitually responds to situations in a melodramatic way, e.g., Donald Trump -
Oh, Priest wherefore art thou?
IndiraLightfoot replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
@dam: Indeed, or perhaps two levels earlier. But you could make so many kinds of priest, and still you got a great support character. -
Yup! That's exactly what happened to me too. Perhaps we should report it as a bug?

IndiraLightfoot replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I mean, this above ain't exactly making a CRPGer drool. Right now the only word I can describe single class priest choices with, qualitywise and quantitywise, is "snorefest". -
Traps often give the unfortunate victim an injury, so it's not just some damage to shrug off. You need resting and food to fix the victim, and IIRC, I have cases where injured guys won't get healed, despite my giving them food before I push that rest button.

I saw there was a thread about wizards, so I thought priest deserved no less. I haven't played much wizards in PoE 1, but I really liked various forms of priests. In the Deadfire beta, priest is almost dead in the water as a single class (almost literally, like that bug with a floating corpse levelling up with our party at the dock). Sure, some of their healing spells are lightning fast, but the few spells they have aren't exactly turning battles nor are they working as levees for the party. And what I miss in particular are those cool auras. Now, I only see remnants of them, a few have even been made into crappy spells. They were part of the PoE priest identity, and personally I'd like to see them get reinserted again. Chanters have there cool chants still, so how about giving priest some substance too?

I don't know. My current character has Perception 18 IIRC, and she finds almost all traps inside those ruins, for instance, but IIRC. there is one or two that she still walked into. Higher value is enough. A bit hard work, though. Since each detection means I have to switch to rogue, who'll attempt to disarm them.

Removing non class specific talents was a bad idea
IndiraLightfoot replied to Boeroer's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Such a system would preserve the free-form character building of the first game through the "talent layer" without really touching the multiclassing system; multiclassing would then be an additional way to specialize your character, rather than a replacement for the prior game's freeform character building. The limited number of additional talents would also reduce the balance implications -- you're talking four non-weapon talents total over the life of your character, significantly fewer than in the first game. Fantastic post! It sums up how I feel, and I really do hope Obsidz read this very post. Why fix something that wasn't particularly broken overall, especially since Josh had preferred classless altogether (see PoE RPG)? And your suggestion is very beautiful as well. Great stuff! -

Exactly. It's not truly multiclassing atm. It's obligatory Fighter or Rogue plus the class you chose. -
Did they implement the elusive walk toggle?
IndiraLightfoot replied to daven's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Even better! Your party is capable of wading through sand, water, and snow, so now you can propel yourself at true snail-pace. Joke aside, I really hope there will be a toogle for this. However, in D&D CRPGs, I only found this useful on RP servers. -

No need to be this resigned, and no need to assume that all you see in this early beta is set in stone. On the contrary, Obsidian want us to give feedback, and then, if they see it fit, they'll adjust and change stuff to make what they think is a better Deadfire. If you like something or hate something in the game systems, now is the time to speak up and make your voice heard. -
Soloing PotD "The Ultimate style" in the Beta
IndiraLightfoot replied to Alhoon's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
This is a pretty unique build, for the Deadfire beta at least, and I love how you stand around in the shadows, stealthed, singing uncanny tunes, and then you unleash your companion as cannon fodder, only to summon hideous monstrosities on the enemies you manage to lure out. I can see some neat RP potential to the build as well. Gratz on the build! Having done PoE1 PotD solo with a cipher when the game was new, I certainly know how much patience and carefulness it takes to pull stuff like this off. -
Backer Beta First Impressions

Toggles are win-win. Those who dislike a toggle setting will leave the other option be, it's that simple. So, combat speed toggle FTW! -

Nah! You just have to get into the mindset that it is a stick insect D&D 3.0 you're playing, then everything feels just fine. *Chitter*
