Resolution: a couple of video memory leaks are fixed. We have noticed there were a lot of questions and misunderstanding surrounding our game’s crafting feature, the artisans, so we’ve decided to clear things up a little bit. As a kingdom’s artisans become better at their craft, they can reach ever higher degrees of mastery, mechanically represented by different tiers. The quality of gifts they present to the player depends on their tier, with their finest work – the masterpiece – serving as the reward for reaching the artisan’s highest tier. To increase an artisan’s tier, you need to complete their respective quests, but that is not the only requirement. You also need to improve your newborn country, so that the artisans have access to better tools and materials – that is, you need to rank up the different kingdom stats associated with the artisan. As already mentioned, once an artisan’s mastery reaches the highest tier, they will present you with an item of great power – the masterpiece. At the moment, some players may experience an issue where an artisan tells the player they’ve started work on a masterpiece even though not all the necessary requirements have been met. This will be fixed in one of the nearest updates. Also, we are currently working to make the process of improving an artisan’s tier more obvious and reactive. PS. IMPORTANT NOTE: For anyone having troubles with Linzi disappearing from the party - you can fix that by opening the party manager tool anywhere in the game, for example on the global map or when leaving your capital." -
Pictures of your Games 11 - The Quickening
IndiraLightfoot replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
Now that you mention it, everyone does have a weird sweaty sheen to them. Perhaps it's more realistic this way? Greece 2,500 years was more steamy jungles and less arid and dry, so maybe the humidity was through the roof? And I've read that most men during this time were much more tanned, while women stayed more indoors and such, so let's chalk all this up as a post 2,000 AD computer game fantasy, shall we? -
RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - CON SEASON

Are you sure? I wouldn't mind if they'd rescue our little oasis here. Keep it all pretty much as it is, just change the name of the forums: Obsidian Legacy. The devs very rarely interact with us here, anyways, and most of us just complain about the games the Obsidz make, so we wouldn't probably notice much difference. -

I just posted this image in another thread, but after reading your comments, I reckon it fits the mood here as well, stockstamped and all, since we are to expect stock games in the future… "You must gather your third party before venturing forth." -
Here you go, folks. Sorrowwine, stockphoto stamped and all...

Rumours about acquisition by Microsoft
IndiraLightfoot replied to Aoyagi's topic in Obsidian General
If this helps securing the jobs for all the great employees at Obsidian, I'm really happy for their sakes. And if Obsidian gets to continue doing what they're so very good at, but with more resources, then that's good news. But I detest Windows Store and a lot of the things that Microsoft snuck into Win 10, like so many others. And in the long run, I fear a development like Bioware, which pretty quickly lost its CRPG soul, touch and vibe, only to crash pretty hard in that field. -

All I've garnered is this, from player Stian: This is a quest that is done through kingdom management its called Tipping the scales and must be done by one of your subordinates. Strange thing tho is that once this event is done it fails for some inexplicative reason. I cannot seem to figure this one out. I used Harrim for this event and even if it says the event is a success the quest still fails. Alright seems using Harrim was a mistake as he succeeds in the event but the people are outraged by the pathfinders so using someone else may in fact help smooth things over. -

Patch 1.07! "Hello everyone (Warning! 5,4 GB!) Please, be aware that there are plot spoilers in the descriptions below (in the Quest, Areas and Kingdom sections)! • Quests o "The Seed of Sorrow" quest didn't progress after the evil dialogue choice in the Capital Asylum. Resolution: fixed. • Areas o Several encounters had the wrong enemies at Oleg's Trading Post become infused with First World energies (last chapter state). Resolution: fixed. (This explains a few of the encounters I've experienced there!) o Incorrect copies of Mim and Dragn NPCs could be found in the capital. Resolution: fixed. o The encounter at Poacher’s Hideout could become unfinishable. Resolution: fixed. o One of the cutscenes got stuck if Tristian was wounded and had zero Hit Points at Vordakai Tomb. Resolution: fixed. o Trade with Dumra was not available during the "Deal with the Devil" quest. Resolution: fixed. o Party couldn't move at Rill-and-Spill area. Resolution: fixed. o Solo completion for the "Other World" area was not supported. Resolution: fixed. • Items o Some magical items could have issues with empty descriptions of their magical traits in the tooltips. Resolution: fixed. • User Interfaces o Days of the week could display incorrectly. Resolution: fixed. o There was no direct way to check the build version. Resolution: the build version has been added to the Main Menu. (Finally!) o The description for Enemy Difficulty settings didn't reveal all the mechanical elements altered by this option. Resolution: a more detailed description has been added for the Enemy Difficulty settings. • Kingdom o It was unclear and confusing that after defeating the main threat of the chapter, all of the kingdom events associated with that threat remained active. Resolution: after defeating the main threat of the chapter, all of the kingdom events associated with that threat are removed from the barony. In case there are too many of such events, the kingdom is considered damaged and its development is slowed down. This state can be removed with special new barony project. o It was not always clear that some events can destroy the kingdom if not addressed. Resolution: a more detailed description added for the events that damage the kingdom and projects that remove these events. • Classes o Valerie's quest ability "Valorous" provided Strength and Constitution bonuses instead of Strength and Charisma. Resolution: "Valorous" ability provides Strength and Charisma, as per description. o Metamagic rods didn't work for sorcerers. Resolution: fixed. o Enemy Difficulty settings affected saving throws twice - the first time by increasing the enemy ability scores and the second time with a specific bonus to saving throws. Such implementation forced players to avoid spells with saving throws on the higher difficulties. Resolution: Saving throws are now affected by the Enemy Difficulty settings only once by increasing of base ability scores. (This also explains quite a bit for us playing against tougher baddies) • Misc o New pack of localization fixes. • System o Some players have persistent issues loading game saves that we were unable to reproduce so far. After analyzing possible threats that may cause this issue we implemented improvements that hopefully would fix the problem. o Some players complained about being thrown out of the game and into the Main Menu while entering Throne Room (including the exit while trying to Rest at the capital). Resolution: fixed." -

The random results of dice rolled are fun! Who knew? Seriously, though, with a group of real peeps, this stuff almost makes the game. A fumble in that critical moment, or a natural 20 when nothing is at stake, like "I'll try whistling an old Orcish evergreen at the bar." -

Indeed, and that's why I reckon BG1 and 2 were so successful, as they actually managed to make toom for various ways of playing D&D tabletop-like in a CRPG-format. "D&D is an amazing experience full of imagination and adventure, but even in the world of limitless fantasy you're going to come across some tropes... even if the cliches are just your fellow players at the table: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.- 1094 replies

I'm the kind of guy that plays most types of games, old and new, indie and AAA, platformers and CRPGs, FPS and 4X, you name it. Still, for the love of Selûne, please make BG3: -As tabletop party-based PnP as possible, this most likely means it will have to be isometric -Make ridiculously good use of the Forgotten Realms and all of its planes and intricacies, historical stuff and new lore -Emphasize character development and story, branch and interweave like the Norns. Not just fetch quests, but many gripping and intertwined storylines throughout -Give us the full complexity of the D&D system chosen, including die rolls, DC checks, and its entertaining randomness. In this case I'd take turnbased before RTwP, but please no RT ARPG. We have other games for that already. If this point and the one before it are done well, we'll get replayability in spades -Let us explore fleshed out maps, outdoors and indoors, complex settings and dungeons, plenty of secrets and a few throwback easter eggs. Discovery should be central -No unnecessary handholding and quest exclamation marks hovering above NPCs (That works well in other games). Let us fail in several ways, although not frustratingly so, more of the kind "Aha, I'll get this solved next time!" -Make it at least big enough, but it doesn't have to be so-called open world. I'd prefer well-written chapters with heaps of choices and paths

I'd say one thing in SCL was above average, though: Inon Zur's music. I just listened to a few of the tunes the other day, and he pretty much nailed it with City of Sails, for instance.

It takes 10,000 hours to really master a skill, so let Boeroer mature a bit as a PoE'er, shall we? In 6,000 hours (15 weeks), you could of course refurbish a boat instead, inhaling toxic fumes in the process and then hand it over to someone else. https://twitter.com/volvooceanrace/status/827029888267931648 I know which of these I'd prefer.

There is one, but your kingdom can still get destroyed from using it! However, in a recent patch, they made a toggle that makes your kingdom indestructible. What? The whole point of Auto is that it makes it impossible for you to lose your Kingdom. I think it even says so in the description of this mode. Indestructible was added for people who want to manage the Kingdom but don't want to lose because they're bad at it I know. There are posts about peeps losing their kingdoms, having picked Auto! -
@kanisatha: The late 1980s were still great times for tabletop D&D. I still have those 2nd Ed AD&D Monster Compendium ring binders that came out then, those with loose leaf pages where you could add your own homebrew monsters to them, using the empty pages.

And two stealth hotfixes today: There have actually been two patches today. The inital fix to the 1.0.5 hotfix, which stopped further accumulation of stat boosts -- but eliminated all sound on Windows machines by moving the sound files to the correct location for Mac / Linux builds. Then another patch was released that moved all the files back to the correct location. That's where everything stands right now. But there where be another fix for the fix for the fix for the 1.0.5 hotfix sometime later today that will also undo any accumulated stat bonuses, which will finally and truly fix the issue that the 1.0.5 hotfix caused. An update to the hotfix 1.0.6 will go live soon. This particular one fixes the "endlessly stacking non-specific item bonuses" problem. Bonuses should stop stacking, although your characters stats, if already affected by this bug, won't return to their normal values right now. Next update will arrive today (right now, unfortunately, I can not give more accurate estimates). That one will return affected character's stats to their normal values. -

Since P:KM players can lose entire playthroughs because of poor kingdom management, I'm quoting these pieces of kingdom manager advice, courtesy of w0lv3en: "My suggested tips and strategies are: 0) Every 20 points in a single kingdom's stat, you gain a project to support that advisor's endeavor. You basically level up his/her advisor skills and it nets you a better bonus to his/her dice rolls. You should do it whenever you can. 1) Do every single main quest as soon as it pops up. This is especially important in the case of bald hills questline. This is mainly for two reasons, one of which i am explaining now and the other one will be explained later. The first reason is that, doing the main quests (such as the trolls questline) as soon as they come, you prevent bad events from piling up in your events queue. In this playtrough i addressed the trolls matter super early, and therefore the only event i got about them was ''trolls sightings'', which had a low DC and so i managed to get it right. If you wait too much, on the other hand, you will start getting a lot of ''troll strikes'' events, which you will eventually end up not being able to address because they will outnumber your advisors. This will lead to defeat soon enough. I also noticed that, doing this particular questline early, you prevent Bartholomew Delgado to bug out, and will then be able to recruit him as advisor later on. Also, doing the main quests early, get you a lot of spare time before the next one begins in which you can address the unrest issue you may have without having too much pressure put on you, you can also build buildings, reclaim regions and explore without bad♥♥♥♥♥♥happening. 2) Get a treasurer as soon as possible (which means, as soon as the trolls questline begins, head immediately to the west of your capital and get the gnome companion). I have noticed that having low BP or low BP income contributes to the increasing of unrest. Conversely, having a good amount of BP in your cash and a good income, contributes to keep it low. NEVER SPEND ALL YOUR BPS! If your funds go to 0 or under 0, unrest will rise quickly! If that happens, rush to the vendor and buy BPs as soon as possible! Generally, is good to do all the events and the projects that improve your economy as soon as you can afford them.....the treasurer should, theoretically, be the highest leveled advisor you own. 3) All kingdom's statistics contribute to unrest. Consider the combination of all stats as the general well being of your populace: the bigger the statistic's amount, the merrier your folks are. All of them contribute in the same manner (so don't just improve stability ignoring all others....it won't work). That said, stability is one of the hardest stats to push up, because you obtain its advisor pretty late, so you need to get your military up as soon as possible to get the warden very fast. This way, you will be able to efficiently farm your stability on low DC events. Yes, the more time goes by, the harder the events become, so you generally need to up your advisors as soon as possible, before you get too much further in the game. 4) Unrest. The most scariest thing in the game. It can ♥♥♥♥ up 30+ hours of gameplay in a matter of minutes. It has to be constantly kept under control: the more unrest you have, the bigger penalty your advisors' dice rolls will have. As far as i know, it's -1 for worried, -2 for troubled, -3 for riots and -4 for crumbling. If you spend too much time in the crumbling state, you will be defeated. The good news is that there are some projects that, upon completion, reduce the unrest. Those are, as far as i know, ''feast for the afflicted'' and ''address the barony''. The first one costs 1000BP and never fails (as far as i know), the other one is free of charge but it is subject to the unrest dice roll's penalty. Thus, my suggestion is to just ignore the expensive one, unless you're close to be defeated (DO NOT wait until you get crumbling, you should do this at the ''riots'' stage) and do the other one as soon as you are getting anything different from ''stable'' or ''worried'' (i think a -1 penalty is acceptable, and completely manageable....but that's really up to you). 5) The other reason for doing main quests early is that you can then upgrade your advisors in a quicker manner, because as i said above, you will get a LOT less problematic events, and so you can skip 14 days without too much troubles. This will help you a great deal later on, as i stated above. Moreover, you can focus a bit more on opportunity events which, yes, they contribute to improve unrest as well. 6) Upgrading towns and building new stuff is a good thing as well...as soon as you fulfill the requirements and have enough spare BP, upgrade the villagess/towns, so you can further improve your kingdom's stats by building new buildings and upgrading existing ones. 7) Being successful in events contribute to improve your unrest as well, but improving unrest is a process that REQUIRE TIME, it's not an instant improvement, so DO NOT wait until you are ''crumbling'' to address this issue, or you will fail. 8 ) At least at the beginning, BUILD A BULLETIN POST IN EVERY TOWN. It improves your bonus to solve problems in that region. The bulletin post is only available to lawful alignement barons, though. 9) Be sure to be at the capital the first week of each month. That's the period of time when you receive visits and major stuff happens. Also, it's always better to upgrade your advisors the first 14 days of the month, and not the last one, or you risk skipping out on important events, quests or companion's quests. 10) Do NOT abuse rest. This game is not nwn, it takes a lot of time to rest and you need all the time you can save to manage your kingdom efficiently. Rest only if you run out of healing spells and potions, and even then, if you can, don't hunt but use rations....It will make you save some time. 11) You just CAN'T get your kingdom to stable until after the ''season of bloom'' quest. Don't even try. Your goal, until you complete that quest (which you should do ASAP, for the reasons listed above) is to survive. Only then you can start building your kingdom to improve it. This has been tested by me and it worked."- 1094 replies

Well that's why PoE also gives you an option to disable that information, which I feel is fair enough. If we're talking PnP, enemy weaknesses and strengths always had to be completely transparent as you were doing the maths yourself, and the 'figuring out' bit was dictated by being clever, not by purposefully obscuring rules. If me and my DM did a roll which a monster would fail and then the DM would proclaim "A-HA! But the monster has a hidden power!" I'd smack him and you would too. What? Enemy strengths and weaknesses had to be completely transparent in PnP? Which universe is this? They did not, and do not, have to be transparent in any way whatsoever. For the record, I still happen to play D&D (3.5, the best one in my view) approximately twice a month, and stuff like that is not transparent, nor would we players want it to be. If we come across something previously unknown, we may make Knowledge checks, provided we have the skills (in our group, this would nearly always be either the priest or the wizard), and if we're successful, we may know something about the creature before anything happens. If things do happen and we end up fighting, we may make observations about what happens, what seems to work and what does not. But no, definitely no transparency. I'm really surprised about your comment, it just doesn't make sense to my way of playing. (As experienced players, we do have the problem of meta-knowledge, i.e. we often know more than is realistic for our characters to know. There is no clear-cut way out of this, but we do the best we can.) Exactly. As a player, I really appreciate when goblins, orcs and kobolds get to be varied stats-wise, item-wise and strategy-wise. The PnP rules have always encouraged this, so it only makes sense that CRPGs should do this as well. -
I can't say I know, or follow much the D&D tabletop stuff. You might have a point and a better insight. Sadly I don't actually get to play PnP D&D anymore because I don't have a gaming group, but I still very closely follow what's going on in the D&D/WotC world because I just love the Forgotten Realms and especially source books and novels from that setting. And what 5e has done for D&D is truly phenomenal. D&D has never been more popular than it is right now, thousands of people tune in to watch PnP groups playing D&D on live streams, and 5e D&D sales have been through the roof for WotC. Chris Cox, the CEO of WotC said in a December 2017 interview that they want to do big things with their D&D franchise, including making D&D games in every type and genre of video gaming including mobile, tablet, and console. And yes, there is at least one and possibly two big screen movie projects involving D&D underway. This is where I am, as well. And I've been playing tabletop D&D since the late 70s, so my love for the game is even older than the Forgotten Realms setting. Gimme Greyhawk, Dragonlance (Krynn) or Ravenloft (demiplanes of dread), and I'll be just as happy. I'm just tired of seeing D&D CRPGs fail, so I really do hope that Chris C o x rocks my socks off sooner rather than later!
