Pathfinder Kingmaker is bigger then Deadfire
IndiraLightfoot replied to no1fanboy's topic in Computer and Console
@Mamoulian War: Since I'm on a crazed CN rampage in my 1st playthru, I honestly don't know, but IIRC, this article certainly hints at it being more nuanced and interesting: https://wccftech.com...kingmaker-crpg/ Also, I've watched a Owlcat vid where they say that you can rule your kingdom in various evil ways. Sounds promising, no? -

This neat Pathfinder CRPG with love from Russia makes me recall something that feels like yesterday. Obsidian gave us a survey literally packed with questions about if we would like to see a Pathfinder CRPG made by the Obsidz. I merrily said "Yes, please" to just about all of those suggestions. Thereafter, no more word on that. Am I ridiculously optimistic in hoping that OE may produce something Pathfinder-licious with Paizo cheering 'em on? I know, PoE is similar in many ways, but the survey certainly had no problems with suggesting that we could have them both from Obsidian. -

Yeah, and level 1, as well as lvl 2 and 3 to a certain extent, is pretty much do or die territory for all classes, since no party member really can't take any hit to speak of, and I play at a higher difficulty with extra damage from the baddies, so I'm trying to be defensive, although it feels a bit futile. My Magus often takes one hit, and she's brittle, with pretty bad armor, but I use the spell Shield, which is far more useful than what peeps give it credit for. A duration of one minute per level is an eternity in most fights in a game like this. -

Welcome to NWN CRPG spawning, for the most part! Out of curiosity, can you just add portraits like in Pillars of Eternity? I think there are three sizes. Do you know their sizes? I'm already checking my portrait gallery for anything that looks well for a King. Adding portrait is very easy. There are templates, which tell you the exact pizel sizes for Small, Medium and Fulllength in your AppData folder, under Owlcat, it's called Portraits. Simply replace them with .png files of those exact measurements, and then you need to do this process at character creation for best results. You can do it afterwards, but IIRC, one of the portraits will mess with your game somewhat. Did you... My party - still level 1 then, by a tiny margin - cruised by this encounter at first try. Why? Well, I had to take a peek at ShadySands's solution, and that one I've missed entirely, but… ...I didn't do it like that. I had used my party formation wisely. Up front I had Amiri (as you saw in my random encounter pic, she's quick and she hits super hard at lvl 1) and Harrim, a cleric, which you can deck with even better armor, which I got for him during the tutorial. Linzi uses her crossbow, and she hits pretty reliably, and I run up and flank whatever Amiri and Harrim's bashing, for even more slashing damage. It was over very quickly, for them. -

Yep! Except for my imported portrait, everything in my screenies is base portraits. -

The alignment reactivity and the moral choices have been great from the get-go, and like in PoE, there are these neat choose-your-own-adventure scripted interactions too: Well, a certain NE pale elf companion is super-cool. I'll have Jaethal in my party in my 2nd playthru for sure! And, well, rusty as I am, using 3.5'ish rules, I did this to her: I'm an idiot! -

Campy 80's is like my middle name! As for companions, I deliberately steered clear of info and such, so I just played the tutorial, and the way it ended in that regard took me with surprise, and the party members I ended up with really did fit my character, (and Harrim, what a dwarf! Harumph!) so I'm a happy camper… See, what I did there? -

No, not for P:KM the CRPG, but I read on the Steam forums that there is a template for one, and just now they've started to encourage us players to contribute. -

I've just started my journey, enjoying this camping system, but still I see so much nuances. During camping, your characters won't be wearing heavy armor and other cumbersome stuff if they're rudely awaken by some hungry trolls in the dead of night, and every class and character, depending on factors unknown to me, has a special role when the party's camping. For some reason, my character provides stealth for the entire camp, making it harder for hostile to detect, for instance. EDIT: And did I say that the music so far is great? There are even choirs and a pretty distinctive Slavic/Russian vibe to it. I really like it. The same goes for the setting, with splotches of names and cultural strokes used - very refreshing, I must say (a bit like Deadfire's Italian-like Vailians). And the ambient sounds and murmurs are pretty great, like NWN1, insects are buzzing, birds are chirping, and cute and not so cute animals are lurking among the grasses and bushes, like rabbits and snakes and even weirder critters. -

Let me put it this way. By supporting them this first time around, imagine what they can do for P:KM2, and with Paizo backing them up, more heavily invested next time, perhaps. Their engine may even be something other than Unity then. I mean, the quality leap, for the most part, from PoE1 to Deadfire was considerable, so please let Owlcat prosper. -

Alright, I've played the intro now, and I've just begun to explore the Stolen Lands. Well, first off, yes there is multi-classing, etc, all that you could wish for in a CRPG and more, the best description is that this is D&D 3.75 with another world setting. It could have been Krynn or Greyhawk or Toril, but instead it's Golarion. The game is very faithful to the PnP books, as far as I can tell, and it's very ambitious in making it feel PnP too, I already adore the brilliant resting system - the best ever made in a CRPG, hands down: After a random encounter. And there is encumbrance. This applies to the shared stash as well, and that's the party encumbrance. After Deadfire this feels harsh, but it's like a RPG is meant to be. Carrying lots of stuff should be taxing. So, there's fatigue as well, and other conditions. However, I haven't seen any consumable arrows and bolts, so I assume that's just like in Deadfire - infinite. The game starts with your character and a number of others having been called to try to wrest control over the Stolen Lands - almost like a competition - the ones who manage to cleanse it of bandits and so forth, they will get the land and the title (as per some desire from powers that be that wish to bring order to this corner of the world). But this unusual summons is interrupted by the castle being invaded by intruders - assassins and a few leaders, most likely sent out by other powers that be that don't want any order to this neck of the woods, as it were. This invasion makes for a great tutorial area, where you get to learn the ropes of the games, but you won't be able to level up after it's done (almost, though). In many ways, this reminds me of the starting area of the NWN2 OC, but also of the start of NWN1 Shadows of Undrentide, but bigger than the latter. Obviously, if you've placed D&D 3.0, or even better 3.5, a lot, you're at a great advantage, not to mention if you're a Pathfinder fan. Still, the info screens while building your character is very exhaustive and pretty clearcut, so kudos to Owlcat for having managed that small feat. Deadfire really struggled in that department. The graphics are not as nice as in Deadfire, but it's pretty neat. It's more on the level of PoE1 (and they have used Unity oo), but it's not as grim dark as PoE1, but rather on par with Deadfire, atmosphere-wise, although not a pirate-y archipelago in any shape or form. Two days ago, I decided to roll a half orc, and I went for a Magus, a class that feels new and fresh to me. My weird goal at a challenging difficulty is to not use any weapons. I made an Abyssal Eldritch Scion half-orc, only using her claws as weapons. Her name is Visceria, and her portrait, which I imported, is the one I use on these forums currently. I went for the CN alighnment, perhaps the most difficult one to play, since I felt like it. And... And this party, well, I'm having a blast so far. The game really keeps track of your alignment, so there are plenty of opportunities to show your "true self": -

Day1 patch took just 1 minute extra, and what is that? Achievements - a nice surprise (at least to me, since I like cheevos). Now, time for setup and char creation. -

They released it now, just like they said! Unpacking all files now! See you in Golarion, pals and gals! EDIT: Hmm, lot to install, apparently. 10 more minutes to go. I'd better prepare with dark chocolate, caffeinated soft drink, and some extra snacks. -

Thanks to Obsidian and their digital card game, I have at least been introduced to Pathfinder, the world of Golarion, and some of them legendary characters and such, but I haven't played Pathfinder PnP, that would be like a shower in awesome-sauce, though, I'm sure, with the right group of peeps, of course! Otherwise. I should be working, but this waiting gets the better of me... Well, just an hour left. EDIT: Now, this is scary. The Steam counter insists on a 1900 hours launch, and Owlcat set a 1600 release yesterday, CET. So, worst case scenario, there culd be 4 hours left. One more little tidbit, on deities: Core deities, minus Lamashtu, plus Gyronna. Also, there's a Groetus cleric, but player can't take this god. -

In a new interview article with Aleks Mishulin and MCA: https://wccftech.com/talking-pathfinder-kingmaker-crpg/ On RTwP: "You can stop the battle at any time to assess the situation on the battlefield and choose which spells or abilities to use. Area of effect spells can be placed precisely and their location can be changed while the spell is being cast. You can set up auto-pause to stop the game at the moments that are important for you. There is even an option to stop the game at the end of each round for each of the party members, which would make your experience quite close to turn-based battles." Chris on Alignment in P:KM: "Maybe it’s the writer in me, but I tend to see an alignment system as an opportunity and an expression of role-playing. I also feel the current alignment system (as long as it’s rewarded) provides a lot of flexibility just like it did on Planescape: Torment and I don’t feel the alignment system is constrictive unless the designers make it that way – and Owlcat certainly hasn’t." -

A few facts: Number of companions: 11 Speccing companions: Yes, you have to tick a box not to autolevel them, and then you can spec them, but not respec their starting level class(es), IIRC Level cap : 20 Kind of Pathfinder: Mostly standard, but Rogue and Ranger are Pathfinder Unchained versions, and Alchemist and Inquisitor were included from Advanced Player's Guide, but Cavalier, Oracle, Summoner and Witch weren't. The Ultimate Combat and the Ultimate Magic have been used in part Voiced dialogue: Around 10% (Personally, a plus to me. I really liked the Deadfire VO, but I read far faster than the voice artists, so sometimes it was a drag.) Companion AI: Hardly any - a simple autoattack setting, not using items Acts on a timer: After Act I, no -

Owlcat just confirmed that they are actively working on fixing the preload hiccup. Important info just now! Final release hours (still 3h earlier than expected): "Valve just informed us that the main game release has been moved to 7AM Sept 25 Pacific time meaning 16:00 CEST / 17:00 Moscow time Sorry for the delay, everyone!" -

For those of you with slow internet bandwidth: "Pre-load on Steam will be live at around 5:30 pm CET tonight." Correction: Owlcat has promised a preload, but this date is looking more and more dubious, since the game will soon be released. Perhaps you'll see a preload, but I doubt it, judging by other forum comments. Well, the preload button is there, but if you press it, you'll download 0 bytes. So, we'll have to wait and see a bit longer. -

Rest assured I will! As for computer gaming, D&D 3.0 and especially 3.5 have been my CRPG comfort food of preference, as it were, so my appetite is whetted to the point of extensive drooling while plotting my first main character for over 24 hours now… *Normal guy?^* -

Although not a true D&D game per se, this is actually the first full and meaty D&D 3.5-like CRPG released since NWN2: Storm of Zehir in November of 2008! So, some of us have been waiting a decade for something like this… Let's hope our patience will pay off a little.
