Not to tear into you, but you have completely, utterly, misread the nature of our involvement. Ours was not an investment. We did not purchase shares. We did not secure a seat on the board. What we did was ensure the realisation of the project. Our reward, our only reward, is the final product. As an added bonus is the possibility of future projects producing similar, in-demand, products which we get to enjoy for a brief spell.

PoE-saga MMORPG? Please?
rustypup replied to senturion's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well-crafted setting and story vs mindlessly grinding pointless resources/quests? Sod that. MMORPGs are for those who want to taste the hollow terror of employment without actually being employed. ;p- 139 replies

Not really. I travel a fair bit. Does that mean I'm hacking my own account when I log in from Hangzhou, Birmingham or Mauritius? If the device/IP is unrecognised, a simple 2-factor step resolves any confusion. unless we should toss security out the window as being inconvenient?

In ZA our IP changes based on ISP and termination point is that of the ISP. This is not unique to ZA. Managing via IP is not a solution and never will be. Simple 2-factor authentication is the better solution.

What is Pillars of Eternity?
rustypup replied to Qistina's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Personally, neither DA game could hope to hold a candle to the old IE products. Plenty flash, not enough bang. DA2 was almost criminally bad. Yes, the game is isometric - Which is pretty much one of the biggest hooks that snagged all us filthy backer types. Graphics and lighting, from what we've seen, are shaping up to be superb. -
Too combat-focused?
rustypup replied to Ieldra's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm not being a pedant or confrontational here, but what is it about this game that drew you here? Combat in the IE games was always, at least for me, enormous fun. Simply side-stepping a large portion of the content doesn't say "content is broken", it says "this isn't my type of game". :/- 98 replies

No, it wasn't. I'm not responsible for your delusions. How so?<..>2. The physical copy is sent to a very limited group of people. Not all of 76.000 backers gave enough to hold a physical copy and goods. So do you need a publisher to send so little amount of physical goods? I was an intern in a company and we managed to prepare and send over 100.000 products in a week. There was 5 of us. So is Obsidian telling us they hired a publisher company to do something a few cheap interns could do? Really? 3. If not for above then whats would be the reason to get a publisher? Look, to be fair, I received a fair number of warnings that this is the case, but it is impossible to interpret this any other way. It saddens my to say it, but flagged as a troll. Not a particularly imaginative or creative one at that.

Too combat-focused?

Well.. we have not been provided very much detail, so I suspect this impression may be false? I suspect wizards/ciphers/monks may well have access to non-combat spells/abilities capable of resolving conflict without stabbing pixels? ....or we could just kill them all and chat them up later? -
No, where exactly did I wrote that?! All I wrote is the PHYSICAL copies will be sent to limited number of recipients. Is that not true? It was very much implied. You appear to be struggling under the misapprehension that we purchased product. We did not. We funded its creation. As a reward we have secured various items, both digital and physical, which may include copy of the end product but that was a one-time reward for our contribution in funding its creation. We are not the sum total of the market. There can, and should, be a plethora of units made available across *all* channels to prospective customers because that's how this business works. We want this, because success in this one project means we can expect to see a continuation of this direct creator/consumer dynamic. This is *only* a success if Obsidian moves units. Our funding is not the EBITDA. It's the capital investment. Future sales is where the profits are buried. For that you need marketing and a dedicated team geared toward shifting said product. Given that creators are generally not well equipped to meet this demand, offloading the function on a specialist is absolutely the correct, responsible, approach. How difficult is this to grasp?

Infinity engine question
rustypup replied to khalil's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No. That's not how that works. Not even close. I'd ask if you'd played a RTwP game, but you have. Colour me confused, but I've always been in full control of all party members? -
Infinity engine question
rustypup replied to khalil's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Primary differences between RTwP and TB? RTwP has a natural, player derived, rythm. TB has none. I'm surprised to discover that your experience of the two is the reverse. RTwP: Pause game, issue instructions, plot responses, let them have at it. TB: EVERYBODY FREEZE! Your turn, his turn, her turn, their turn, my turn - Oh wait, I have to "tactically manoeuvre" around this obviously fake random obstruction designed to stretch combat out even further. Rinse. Repeat. Words cannot express the aggravation gap. TB is a throwback to resource shy machines and PnP nostalgia. There is zero good reason for its continued existence. /Personal opinion may vary... -
Where is everyone from
rustypup replied to Sales101's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
That would be in poor taste... but it's OK because I'm irish. I mean African... I'm African.... erm.... It's surprising because I know a large number of ZA gamers who play primarily RPG product... Hoping the low count is just a reflection of the number of folks willing to vote as opposed to the number of backers... -
What will game cost on release?
rustypup replied to kranecu's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
1) Why would you *need* an early beta access key? 2) If you enjoy good RPGs, why do you feel it necessary to steal them as opposed to supporting the creator and thereby ensuring newer, more innovative, RPGs in the future? Gaming is not a right. There is nothing heroic, admirable or even remotely acceptable about stealing content because it doesn't meet some arbitrary price standard. -

No romances confirmed
rustypup replied to C2B's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Ditto. Except for the camera. I say good on 'em for focusing on actual content and not playing at silly burgers by jury-rigging half-baked "romance" instances into an RPG. Because it almost always ends up as awkward, alien and varying degrees of irritating. -

They're investing their time and energy. Some of the resource is salaried, but their creative investment only pays once they release. Any spare capital can be poured into the next project/s, paid as bonus or leveraged to secure new IP... known as doing business... $30-$40 is a fair price for the product, ensuring continuing support, development and a stable company capable of expanding its product base to our benefit.
