I don't think it has gone through peer review yet. You have to flash back to 2020 when the pair made a similar claim. However, the peer reviewed version of their earlier paper did not include the claim. https://fullfact.org/health/richard-dearlove-coronavirus-claims/ Hmm... well, alternative hypotheses do have their uses in science. If nothing else it's a stress test for the natural origin theory.

Yes I agree, although it will continue to stoke suspicion. It might be better to define first why we need access; are we just looking for blame, or is there an additional value in discovery? I think the latter, although the Chinese government will claim the former. Any data we do actually receive will be heavily scrubbed.

I like to think of it this way: if those nations didn't fund new vaccine development in record time, it would take even longer for everybody else to get a vaccine. The fact that they are getting the vaccines first is what motivated the spending in the first place. Sure it's selfish, but it's human nature to take care of your own first.

I'm sure you're all familiar with the Christie tank design, which was offered to the US army but rejected. Some consider that design an ancestor of the T-34, and there are some striking similarities in the wheels and suspension. Definitely a spark of intelligence at work there. -
