  1. Unfortunately, some people simply view this video games as a means of promoting (or at least promoting acceptance towards) a particular...lifestyle choice. This topic has nothing to do with the game. I'm done.
  2. Well, once a developer uses the word "horror" I'm expecting exactly that. Unless it is meant in a psychodelic context, with more focus on topics like madness and the surreal.
  3. Basically, three types of organisations can be created while retaining plausability: - Those based around common economic interests (like guilds). - Those sharing common beliefs (religions). - And, finally, those having a socio-philosophical and/or political agendas (clubs, cabals and so forth).
  4. Maybe not so much "dynamic" as in one actually reflecting that most of the equipment used by so-called "adventurers" would be very expensive within a Middle Age/ Early Renaissance Europe.
  5. I loved the various factions of the Planescape universe. Rich, diverse, quirky and definitely interesting, as well as having real, believable goals, not just "conquer the world".
  6. "Hello. I am a self proclaimed expert in this field, therefore I will call Wikipedia **** without offering any explanation why and then condescend everyone else who posts about this" Because ANYONE can post on Wikipedia, and their posts will become permanent as long as they give ANY source AND the topic is not controversial/essential.
  7. If they're very very rare, I can live with that. Don't want mah bandits and random encounters to shoot me with guns. Also, I'd like guns not to be available for my party either. Not that rare, as a matter of fact. In 1410, in a battle between Poland/Lithuania and The Teutonic Order/various Western knights, the latter had an entire formation of handgunners supported by cannons. Moreover, according to Polish sources (and please remember that Poland was NOT the centre of European gunsmiths), firearms, both hand-held and larger ones, were used as early as Casimir III the Great (1333-1370).
  8. Well, when you hear the word "horror" in the description of the game itself, "dark and gritty" just pop in by themselves, don't they? And plagues are unique setting in that there is no "big bad" that you can defeat, no "happy ending" you can achieve. Moreover, they tend to bring out both the best and worst within people. Also, such an environment could solve the problem of "gold and wealth", present within another topic of this forum, as well as such issues like the availability of goods, the rarity of magical items, and so on.
  9. Thank God. Without publishers and licenses, the good people at Obsidian can go all out in ther creative orgy. Well, except for all those whiny people on the forum.
  10. You right. You are a bigot and you have a derogatory view on gay relationships, how did you word it .."yuck". Tell me something, what would people think if you said " I hope this game doesn't have African American people in it, its so controversial" ? Discrimination is discrimination, and you can try to say its your opinion as if it that makes it right but it doesn't. Are you comparing the results of slavery, mass murder and the prosecution and "husbandry" of an entire people based purely on the colour of their skin with individuals who, according to most cultures, religions and, most importantly, most people, are sexual deviants?
  11. No, Sir, at that period plate mail was already replaced by the so-called half-plate, designed to protect the wearer in melee combat and against arrows, not bullets. Moreover, most cavalrymen were themselves armed in pistols and other firearms and, when fighting against infantry armed with guns, simply charged them with melee weapons, lances and so forth, in order to close the distance before the poor footmen could reload. And once again you are wrong, Sir. "Muskets" were a wide term, used for many different types of firearms and utilising different types, sizes and composition of bullets. Please, stop this discussion for your own good. It is obvious you are ignorant on this subject, and simply employ "logic" and "reasoning" in order to continue it.
  12. This is a myth. The projectiles of early firearms bounced off of plate armor. No, Sir, this is not a myth. I have a PhD in history, so believe me, I know what I'm writing. Even crossbow bolts and composite arrows pierced plate mail easily. lol credentialism Yes, it's not a myth. It's true though that longbows were actually more powerful than early firearms. No, it is a myth. And yes, I believe that having an education in this particular subject gives me more authority in such matters than a diletantee. What's more, you are mistaking Welsh lonbgows with Mongolian composite bows. The latter could pierce through an armoured knight clean. And please, if you wish to enter an academic debate, do NOT quote Wikipedia. Thank you.
  13. I would agree. However, those strongholds, at least to my tastes, should be extremely quirky, with many options of altering it to fit your tastes, achievements and perhaps even the trophies one has gathered. I don't need a generic "warrior fortress, mage tower, rogue guild", I want something fun and unique!
  14. Even Ancient Greek playwright knew that the best ending is a bitter one, with just a little hint of sweetness. Perhaps a day will come, perhaps with Project Eternity, when a computer game will become a source of true catharsis. It already has with Planescape: Torment.
  15. This is a myth. The projectiles of early firearms bounced off of plate armor. No, Sir, this is not a myth. I have a PhD in history, so believe me, I know what I'm writing. Even crossbow bolts and composite arrows pierced plate mail easily, which is why, for example, the Pope declared utilising crossbows against Christian as a mortal sin. After all, wthin a feudal society, you wouldn't want some filthy merchant being able to shoot a kinght in shining armour dead from thirty meters.
  16. No, not "sending". Going there yourself, each and every time, which would be especially tasty in situations when time would be of essence. In reality, weapons were much to expensive to just trust someone else to oversee the repairs. After all, your life depended on it being in prime condition.
  17. If I myself would be able to choose a mature arch, I would have to pick a copy of Neverwinter Nights - living within a plague-infested city, only this time properly reflecting the outright desperation, hopelesness and struggle for survival at any and all costs. Children dying on the streets, merchants raising their prices sky-high, occult sects praying to plague-gods, madmen raving about the need to repent...and your character, slowly withering away from the disease. And, at the end, you only have enough of the cure for half of your party. Yummy.
  18. I agree. The more diverse a weapon arsenal is, the better. However, if guns were to be actually invente, three factors would have to be taken into account. Firstly, they would have to be monstrously powerful, since a bullet, even a stone one, could pretty much go through any Medieval armour like a knife through warm butter. Secondly, their cost would have to be on a cosmic level, being as expensive as magical weaponry (unless the game developers heed my humble advice and completely remove magical weaponry from being buyable in shops, in which case firearms would become the most powerful armaments money could buy). Lastly, since early firearms were very inaccurate and slow to relode, these factors would have to be included into the game mechanics.
  19. First of all, such a thing as "homophobia" does not exist. The "ilness" was invented by a gay activist in the 1970s, who also, based on the name, was an idiot (phobia ia an irrational fear of something) so please spare me you self-righteous indignation. And just because "some people" respect something, it does not mean that I have to. It's called having an opinion.
  20. Perhaps the game will take on a more steampunk approach, or go towards a mixture of fantasy and science fiction elements, vide Planescape: Torment. After all, limiting oneself to a set technological levels also limits possibilities.
  21. Sorry for asking such a simple, if not outright silly, question, but how does one gain a different title and what do they depend upon?
  22. I think, at least conceptually, that what the Warhammer setting does with magic is interesting. It is powerful, but dangerous, both on a physical levels (mutation), psychological (insanity or, at the very least, quirks) and finally the corrupion of the soul, with the wielder being in constant danger of being seduced by the Dark Gods. Depending upon how the setting and its take on magic will be played out, it may prove fairly ease to implement such a dark, gritty approach to the arcane and occult.
  23. All in all, I guess it depends upon how many copies do the developers desire to sell. Advertising homosexual relationships as one of the important points of a games would not only make more conservative people (the majority) go "Yuck", but also a lot of the more liberal ones mutter "What a cheap trick, selling a game through controversy".
  24. I guess getting a better job would go a long way towards my generosity.
