  1. I don't know about liberals but the core gamer demographic is still overwhelmingly male
  2. If they took a picture like that today Kotaku would make it a scandal, they would all be labeled misogynists
  3. I guess they got old, or married, or both.
  4. What the... where did this come from?
  5. Well Agent Smith, I find it ironic that feminists always say that men are not qualified to talk about women, but they're gonna tell us what our fantasies are? Sorry but it's not my fantasy to look like The freaking Hulk, thank you. Besides, many of the characters I named are in great shape but they are not muscular per se, Nathan Drake beign one of them. I also mentioned that they are all pretty, charming or funny, I guess that's also part of the male fantasy and none of it is to appeal to women, so much bs.
  6. There are plenty of Chauvinist men, gaming doesn't cause this kind of sexism, as I said before there are other countries were women are not even treated like people, let me tell you something, these countries are not really big on gaming, You could say that those societies are really patriarchic and sexists, but I would say the cause is lack of education, lack of social development and also religion. Sure there are plenty, but you still don't have a case to say that gaming is to blame. I don't know who you think is "reducing" female characters to eye candy, the devs or the gamers, but I don't know how you can call it "a problem" what's the problem with enjoying some fanservice here or there? nobody is beign harmed after all. And to be fair I almost don't see any fanservice anymore, at least in western games. No, but you keep complaining about minor thing, I mean, you say I'm using a straw man argument, but then call a dress with a cleavege "overt sexualization" I mean, you've got to be kidding me. Come on man, pretty much all main male characters could drop their hero careers at any time to make a living as models, they all have great physique and they're all pretty! Chris Redfield, Ezio Auditore, Nathan Drake, Raiden (not the MK one), the new prince of persia, I could go on and on. And they're not sexualized? you can have freaking sex with Alistar from Dragon Age! And you could say that they all have good physique because of their line of work, but beign healthy and in shape doesn't mean that you have to look good, I remember Fedor Emilianenko had a pot belly and went undefeated for many years in MMA. Also their line of work doesn't justify them beign pretty and charming and all that ****. And to be clear, I have zero issues if a male character is appealing to the gaming ladies, but if a female character is visually appealing to men, well that's a ****ing crime now.
  7. I would trade all the games beign showed for a New Vegas 2
  8. Dragon Age? Seriously? Leliana's leather armor had cleavage! Oh no! The patriarchy strikes again!
  9. Too white I consider to be fighting against bad reasoning, bad logic and bad arguments
  10. I see you already have your armor on
  11. Well, last night this thread surely slowed down and I think there are 399 reasons for that No man, you're the one that keeps missing the point, I brought up violence in video games because there's no evidence that it causes violence in real life, the same way there's no evidence that having eye candy characters, male of female, causes any sort of harm, and with no evidence of harm you don't have a case to protest this so called trend. A trend that is not as prevalent as you may think, specially in the west, the RPGs I've played like Dragon Age or Fallout are really toned down, I even have a Sith Inquisitor in Star Wars: The Old Republic and she doesn't show an inch of skin. If "show off the biggest possible amount of skin at the expense of all logic and reason" means having a cleavege, then no, that's no objectifiacion, unless you want to redefine the word. You're talking about this? If this image is offensive to you there is absolutely no chance of reaching a middle ground in this conversation I never said that, but hey I see that you like to use straw man after straw man and put words in my mouth, I don't know what Rapelay is but as far as fighting games are concerned all characters are treated equally, nobody is putting women down, you have to beat the crap out of everyone all the same, and there's a ton of men shirtless or "showing off the biggest possible amount of skin at the expense of all logic and reason" but I guess you're not gonna complain about those. Man... the hyperbole is strong with this one, talk about "logic and reason" when you have zero evidence to support your case.
  12. First of all, objectification I see it as a term that applies more for real people and not video games and caricatures. And if you're fear is that these type of games "brainwash" me and I will start objectifying real women after playing Dragon Crown, that's just as stupid as saying that I will start hacking and slashing everyone in real life because I just played an action RPG. Sane people can distinguish between real life and a fantasy game. Also, objectification refers to when you treat someone as an object with absolutely no respect for their dignity and personality. I can't speak for everyone but that's not the case, if you play an RPG is precisely because of the opposite, because you enjoy they story, the characters and their personality, do they have sex appeal? sure, but that's no crime and nothing to apologize for. Other games like fighting games or platformers like Mario have super simple story and one dimensional characters because that's not the focus of their game.
  13. Obviously my respect goes out to anyone that is opposed to Real violence against women in real life. As for drawings of women in video games or comic books, well, first you would have to make a pretty strong case on how it's harmful in any way before trying to tell people that they should be against it. Unless it's a matter of artistic preference, if you just find some of these artworks unappealing or exaggerated I'm right there with you, but I think some people go way to far when they try to imply that this causes some sort of harm or that is immoral, Specially when there's no evidence for that.
  14. Of course, while little girls are getting acid thrown in their face in the middle east, just because they want to attend school, the typical western feminists is much more concerned with breasts size in video games or comic books. You're not fooling anyone, this is not helping women and this is not helping the gaming industry either. This is only a matter of some people stroking their ego by attacking anyone who doesn't share their prudishness. btw, liking attractive females =/= objectification
  15. More like internet white knights, protecting the world from the evil of big breasts.
  16. Welcome to the internet, where video games are considered a tool of the patriarchy to oppress women LOL. Someone's just had one of his nerves touched. Ok? Did you just basically said "UMAD?"
  17. Welcome to the internet, where video games are considered a tool of the patriarchy to oppress women
  18. Hello There... (and don't give me that objectification crap, what are you going to talk about next? the patriarchy?) NOT QUESTIONING HIS CHOICE OF ATTIRE AT ALL!
  19. There are many different female characters in video games and even in Dragon Crown they all look different, The sorceress is not a norm is an extreme, and she doesn't represent all women anymore than Super Mario represents all men, they are cartoony characters, not an example of how looks or should look like in real life. I find her to be over the top but I also think that people reactions to that game is even more over the top, that's why I defend them.
  20. I'm gonna shock the whole forum, even though I'm defending Dragon Crown, I also think they are a bit exaggerated, but for me it's a non-issue, I'm not gonna make a big deal about it and I think that the ones making a scandal out of this are a bit immature (PA, kotaku, the escapists, etc). And who knows, maybe their gameplay is great and it's a very entertaining action, and while the art is a bit over the top, sexual themes are already regulated by the ESRB and not every game should be E for everyone in order to achieve mass audience appeal.
  21. Are you effing kidding me? Are you gonna lie about what you just said in a forum where I can just scroll up and read myself? You didn't say "age range of 16" buddy, if you're going to argue dishonestly at least try to be smart about it, you pulled a statement out of your butt that the gamers are a bunch of 16 years old, called a FACT, and tried to use it to desqualify the person that wrote an article (I guess you were talking about a post) So don't tell me to "check my fallacies" when I call you out for using ad hominem attacks pal, and you even have the balls to call me immature when you're calling gamers "a bunch of 16 years old" just because you disagree with them? Please! I know that saying this is shocking in 2013, but yes, most men (and a few women) enjoy watching attractive female characters, and it's not a freaking crime, we shouldn't have to be apologetic about it.
  22. We are discussing drawings, and that's art weather you like it or not, we're not talking about mechanics or programming. And all core gamers are 16 years old, where did you get that information? from the same place where you learned about applied art and fine art? insulting gamers in general (when you're in a gaming forum discussing games) and pulling statistics out of your butt. Man.... this forums.
  23. So, if you'rere drawing of a woman it's art, but if you animate that drawing, give her hit points and mechanics it stops beign art? Man... this forum.
  24. The thing is, many people would still be mad because the woman on the drawing is showing too much skin and has a great body, buzzwords like sexism, misogyny or patriarchy are usually thrown around when people want to complain about that. Dragon Crown also has an Amazon with a big ass, I was referring to that.
  25. Now can you imagine what women would like if all game developers were Brazilian? all games would like Dragon Crown and the devs would be like "what's wrong? that's how our women look"
