To me this all moot. Early in 2012 Obsidian was in serious trouble. They had to lay people off. They came up with the idea of doing the Kickstarter. It was successful. Obsidian now has its own game and a possible franchise . They are back in business. That to me is success.

Ready to play?
Nakia replied to gingerjordan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Since you have the game why not play it? I have played for many hours without any problems. -
James merely says it didn't do as well in sales as he anticipated. That tells us nothing about the the sales. Whether the game had successful sales or not depends on what you think. If you think that the game should have sold 1 million copies in the first three months of launch then the game is not successful.

Yes, I would like to know this too as the only reports I can find say it was successful and Paradox appears to be happy. PoE is a PC game which limits sales. Not everyone plays on Steam and I have seen no reports of how it has done on GOG or Origin. The game has only been released less than three months. They have had a successful Kickstarter for the Tabletop game and must feel there is a market for that type of game. It is not a multiplayer game or even coop so that would limit sales.

Dissapointed about expansion
Nakia replied to juanval's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
As Rabin says it is not a sequel and I do not think there was ever any implication that it would be a sequel. It adds to the play ability of the core game ad if you enter the area at a high level you are given the choice of leveling up the enemy. I am very happy with what little I know about the expansion and am looking forward to playing it. Until then I will withhold judgement. -

Eder, Sagani, Kana and Pallagina feel the most natural to me. Aloth is alright because awakened souls are not that unusual in the game. -
Noob here: any advice?
Nakia replied to MILF Lover's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
On Easy or normal this game is not that difficult but it is complex. PoE is not DA:O or Mass Effect. This is Pillars of Eternity and has its own peculiarities, its own combat system, its own story. The OP asked for help and we are trying to help. Well ye, but i think you are taking the thread title from a poster named "Milf-lover" a bit too literally //among those 3 very similar games, PoE is the easiest no matter the difficulty as it requires the least tactics to win. Basically just dont get ambushed and you won. I take people who ask for help seriously until they prove me wrong. If the only thing important to you is the combat you are missing the best part of the game. The intricate role playing part which is why I backed the game. Edit: If combat is your thing Ubisoft has a game coming "For Honor". Looks to me perfect for those who want combat, combat, combat. It is on console. -

There is a lot of good advice posted so I will not repeat it. I do want to address the report that PoE is hard. It is a complex game and requires a lot of reading. It is not a game to be rushed. Dialogue is important. Pay attention to what is said to you. Check your quest journal if you are uncertain as to what to do. Check your party members character sheet to make sure equipped items are not suppressing each other. Mechanics is important for finding traps, unlocking things, finding hidden objects and crafting. Rogues automatically get a bonus to mechanics. Priest also need mechanics for their seal spells. I give each party member 3 levels in athletics in order to increase endurance. For someone new to this type of game I recommend starting on normal or even easy difficulty which is set when you start a new game but can be changed in-game. There is also an option for an in-game tutorial I haven't used it so do not know how good it is. As already said ask questions here in the forums. -
Who is This God Person Anyway?
Nakia replied to Steve Holt!'s topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I hope not bringing in a god not created by mortals would to me diminish the whole story. Although if Wael were that god himself and he is the god of knowledge both reveled and hidden maybe he could be waiting for someone to discover the hidden knowledge. The twist could be in the soul essence itself. -
I'm not sure where they got the info, to be honest. Maybe I missed it at the presentation, but the trailer and the press release don't mention that at all. I think WorstUsernameEver has a point. The trailer gives us very little information. It probably depends how the blend the Expansion into the original game. Hopefully there will be some improvements to the original game included.

Yonjurol what i think you are doing is replacing one faith or worship with another one. Historically this is usually preceded by a time of chaos, bloodshed. It may be brief but it still happens. To me the Real World arguments are moot as we are not dealing with the real world but with a fantasy world. The real gods of PoE are the developers and they will be the ones who decide the fate of that world. My hope is that they will not chicken out and go for an easy answer. -

The world of PoE is not the real world it is a fantasy world in which magic exists, wizards, priests, chanters and others can cast spells. It is also a world where the printing press does not exists, books are still written by hand. It also seems that education is primarily limited to the well off, nobles and those favored by nobles. Although Eder a son of a farmer and a farmer himself can read which is interesting. Is the ability to read a magic talent? Despite its being a republic nobles like Raedric still have the power of life and death over their subjects. The gods do have teeth and can and will act to protect themselves. Destroying the temple of a god you believe to be dead is one thing but destroying the temple of a living god could be rather dangerous. If we do insist on comparing it to the real world then beware the depth that people can believe and react when those beliefs are questioned. A slow erosion of belief is one thing but trying to change people quickly is another. -

I have spent many years studying religion including formal theology If we define a god as being eternal, without beginning or end, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent there is only one god who fits that definition, Yahweh/Allah, the god of the Hebrews, Christians and Muslims. The Greek gods certainly don't . Zeus is the son of Cronus who is the son of Uranus. The gods of PoE are real however they came about. They have power and do interact with mortals to some extent. The Kith do worship them and do have faith in them. When the god does not act as expected that faith can be shaken, even lost. The soul is the animating force for all living things although it is poorly understood. It can be manipulated and its power can be used. A soul can be implanted in Adra. The souls of animals were implanted in Hollowborn children although that didn't work out well. As far as the writing of the story goes I think the Devs did a fantastic job or else we wouldn't be able to have discussions like this one. -

I see what you did there. Well played, sir. Well played... Though, that would basicly be Baldur's Gate. But in reverse and with more options. "The Watcher is watching you."
