  1. The wearing of robes dates way back. The leisure class, those who did no hard work wore robes. Scholars, priests, the wealthy. It was a kind of status symbol saying :I am special. I do not have to dirty my hands and do physical labor like some commoner or soldier." Just how it came to denote wizards I have no idea. I do find it silly in games such as this were the magic user is tramping around in filthy dungeons, caves, brambles, and only the gods know what. Why that particular hat? I would like to know that too. The outfits for magic users should fit the culture they leave in. Yes, some where it was posted that magic users would be able to wear armour. I was happy to hear that.
  2. I am thrilled about the whole update but especially the badge for the Obsidian Order of Eternity. Now I have that warm fuzzy feeling. Thank you.
  3. I would like to thank dlux for all the time and effort put into making this venture successful. This is not a simple task as you have to go through all the posts where we are just chatting with each others to find the new members.
  4. Oh, I know. It's just that people who pledged the extra $8 after me got there's already. Well, hopefully one the people who are handling the updates will be on and can get it straightened out. We have been doing a lot of posting in here so it is hard to keep track of people. Good you reminded them.
  5. Gensou has a template but I don't have the link. Maybe when he comes go he will link to it. It makes a nice sig bar doesn't it? We have so many choices now. Fantastic.
  6. Takes time to get the custom title. It can only be done by a global moderator. Don't worry it will come.
  7. ...uhh...of course it's selfish. After all Obsidian won't pay me out a share of the profit from the finished product, so why should I care for any stretch goal that solely is good for maximizing their bottom line ? I want Obsidian to make a (hefty) profit, of course -but that doesn't translate to the kickstarter -like at all. Well PE being profitable would result in Obsidian having a new franchise they can leverage to develop new game that we will be happy to buy and play. All the better for everybody ! True. If the game is a success, everybody wins. But realise that since this is an english board, everybody posting here was likely already capable of playing/would enjoy playing the game in english. Sure, they might prefer the game in their native tongue, but there's nobody here who can suddenly play the game because it's been translated. That is precisely my point. Obsidian isn't taking nothing away from those who have pledged. All they are doing is adding something. I just find the trslation attitude a dog in the manger attitude. I don't need so why should it be done. I don't need romance in my games but that doesn't mean I object to it in games. I just don't care. So you don't need a translation of the game but someone else does. So why should you care if Obsidian translates the game into some other language? You lose nothing by it. It isn't costing you anything. Let's talk about mystery stories that actually might be something worthwhile and something Obsidian can use.
  8. In my opinion humans are the biggest cliches in fantasy. I like to play other races. In the BG and IWD series I never played a human. My IWD parties never included a human. Humans are much over rated. As for a starting point as long as I am not a prisoner I don't care were I start. I enjoyed the starting origins in DALO but don't feel that is necessarily the best way to go. Obsidian is known for its writing so I am sure they will come up with something decent. They have already said there will be diversity even with the races.
  9. I am going to be blunt. I find this fixation on the announcement of translations depressing and selfish. Oh, that doesn't give me anything so I don't think it is needed. If this game is successful it will mean more games like it. To make those games Obsidian will need money. Are you going to help fund every game they make? Why shoudn't Obsidian make a profit off this game? Publishers have been making profits for years now. Why shouldn't the developers of the game start getting that profit. I have pledged more to back this project than I would normally pay for a game. I pledged that extra money because I want this to be a success. I want to be able to get decent games not only now but in the future. Maybe even some of the players that think that the watered down, buggy games of the current time are all there are will realize that isn't true. I can't save the world in real life but even if my contribution is small if it helps even one person that is all I ask. I am not pledging because I want a tee shirt or a forum badge but because I want games to be worth playing and paying for. Well I do want that Novella. Hokay, Nakia is getting annoyed. Thank heavens, while I was composing my rant someone came up with a really good idea. Haunted house, mystery that is just my cup of tea. :D
  10. Is anyone taking into consideration that if you do not read English you may not know that Obsidian is going to translate the game? How many foreign language game magazines have reported that Obsidian is even making this game? Has any one seen or heard of a report that Obsidian is translating the game? A non-English report.
  11. ; Welcome to the Order. Choose a unique title for yourself. Check the first post for details.
  12. Actually the pledges did pick up a little bit but I think more because of the novella. I saw a slight surge in upgrading pledges when that was released. As for localization the word has to get out to people who do not speak or read English. Some European advertising needs to be done. It will help future sales and the more translations the better. We will reach the 2 mil mark in a couple of hours. Then we head for the 2.2 goal. What they can come up with for a 2.4 stretch goal will be interesting. What might draw people in?
  13. I would love a fully voiced game but it takes resources not only of the developer but of the player. Sound can kill your performance. Also far my experience has been that a fully voiced game can be annoying. repetitious and the voices boring. That fact that the main character can't be fully voiced is jarring because you still have to go back to text. Maybe someday technology will enable a true fully voiced game but right now it isn't or doesn't seem to be possible. My preference would be that the main characters are voiced but what ever Obsidian does I will live with it so long as the game itself is good.
  14. Personally I don't see anything wrong in being a bit big headed as a group. We are unique as far as I know. We represent the power of the many who are One. We will go down in legend. We are such a varied group we could be just about anything. Pirates are fun but I think we should be on the good side. Nakia may be a rogue but she has always been a chaotic good rogue. A mercenary order that seeks out evil doers and defends the downtrodden and innocent would be my choice.
  15. I too like the idea of being able to steal small containers to keep for another day when my PC has better lock picking skills. I have never understood in games why a jewel box cannot be picked up. The box itself might even be worth something.
  16. Project Eternity: Return of the Past Project Eternity: Hope returns Project Eternity: Regaining our souls Project Eternity: Retelling the Stories of old
  17. Based on what has been said about souls returning I think Project Eternity plus some descriptive phrase for this particular game would be good. The Devs have their own ideas though.
  18. I think the developers should choose the best three or four names that fit the game and then put up a poll for the backers to choose. It would be a nice gesture and make people feel they had a part in some of the decisions. We don't need to know the details of the story. What does the name Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale tell us about a game?
  19. I could use larger text too. For DA:O some one made a mod that made it possible to adjust text. Personally even with the mod I hated that UI. What ever happened to the KISS principle?
  20. There is no official badge for the Order that I know of. I use Paint.net I would not use a shield for an avatar but do like it in my signature.
  21. For me a separate tutorial which is optional. Those mandatory in-game tutorials get very boring.
