  1. Ahhh.... Some people have massive amount of saves files... THAT could be a problem like is was in NWN2 and other games... Move all your save files but 1-2 out of the save directory to somewhere else safe... and see if load times improve.
  2. By droping perception you have gimped your chars ability to interrupt with spells and attack... which incidently happens to be about the best thing the mage can do over a druid... max perception and rapidfire attacks that constantly reset interruption on targets freezing them from harming your tanks/damage dealers is about the best use of Deleterious Alacrity of Motion avoiding blights blast op bug. Most importnatly however. 99% of all fights only require 1-3 spells to end. Mage UNLIKE Druid has trouble not effecting other party members has lower range spells even after patch, and has to move around the battlefield more for placement for fan of flames etc... Could also point out one VERY important fact. Your entire defense on why the Wizard doesnt suck is because of a single tier3 spell. That in itself is sucking, if the Wizard NEEDS that spell to be competitive with another casting class that doesnt need to use a single specific spell EVERY encounter. With a decent intelligence DoAM lasts for 46 seconds, which allows for many more than two spells to be cast accelerated, and any tough battle is likely to take significantly more time than what it takes to cast 3-4 non-hasted combat spells before it is done. And while 2 v 2 combat spells sounds good for druid, 4 v 3, 6 v 4, 8 v 5, 10 v 6 in favour of the wizard doesn't. I am quite happy with my: MIG 18 CON 3 DEX 19 PER 4 INT 19 RES 15 Wood elf wizard, thank you very much. I lose out on perception role playing interactions, but since I'd need HIGH perception for that, not just medium perception, those were not an option anyhow unless I wanted to shaft either MIG, DEX, or INT - merely taking a medium value in one of them, such as DEX, wouldn't be enough to put enough points in PER to reach the 14-16 level where most checks are made. As is, I get all MIG, DEX, and INT roleplaying interactions and, as a bonus, all of the RES as well, since I buff my resolve with items and rest. I've got a hard time seeing how anybody would make any build that didn't end up losing out on some role playing interactions, and I also find it hard to see how you'd build anything but a tank (with high PER, INT, and RES) that would get more of the interactions than I do, given the prevalence of MIG, INT, PER, and RES interactions.
  3. Except the Druids end line AOE spell is far better then the Wizards. Druid can also drop con to min... buff DEX to max and still have more health then a wizard with 10 con... Also not sure how much faster you think the spell makes the wizard cast but its not instant fireballs... its 50% faster... Wizard can cast 3 spells when a Druid has cast 2... Problem is one of those spells was Deleterious Alacrity of Motion... End result is wizard casts 3 combat spells Druid casts 3 combat spells... only with the 4th combat spell does the wizard pull ahead... in damage/CC 5 spells cast vs 4... Now add in the fact druid can drop con to min and max DEX... you start needing 5-6 wizard combat spells AFTER Deleterious Alacrity of Motion to match the druid... While the druid can fire off a damage or CC spell at the start of combat before a Deleterious Alacrity of Motion casting mage can... Now if you want max dex and Deleterious Alacrity of Motion a mage is awesome 1.2*1.5=1.8 attack speed... but to do that you drop multiple stats and lose out on role playing intercations in the game... Wizard gets punished anything you try compared to other casters... Anything the wizard comes out ahead in is always minor and is always arguable if its actually better off... Not having to cast a spell before a CC/damage spell in combat could be considerd the advantage... putting druids ahead. However, in any important encounter wizards get to cast a lot more spells in a given period of time than a Druid from level 5 and onwards due to Deleterious Alacrity of Motion, and wizards get enough spell slots that you aren't going to run out before you've nuked the enemy in a fraction of the time it would take the druid to do so. Druid: Safe, slow, and with big hits. But for maximum nuking, go wizard.
  4. IT could be a bug... I can only give my experience and advice on ways to fix it... Even if a bug exists not everyone seems to have it and as such you are arguing from view that it MUST be a bug on his end... even if it is a bug I find many people have programs loaded that can decrease system performence... Like Virus scanners that check every file on disk access... which can be good when using a untrusted program but should be turned off when dealing with known programs so its only on exe access. Also DaO had massive maps and large amounts of data including textures... DA2 sucked balls had console graphics and rather small maps. Trading long loading times for multiple short loading times that add up to about the same isnt fixing anything. There has been imo a large enough swelling of reports on this to the point I feel it stands out that it is more game related, than pc related. At first the loads were pretty good, the more I played the slower it got. This isn't the first time a game has had that issue, I think every time that has been reported it ends up being on the game and not a pc. So it's not "your pc sucks dude" type thing, if it ran good 2 days ago, nothing else has happened other than progressing further into the game, game. When enough report it, makes it a point of focus for devs. This is where you throw down the "blame it on Unity" card! They have addressed one bug in assocation to this issue, why not a fair chance there is more? My pc I keep it pretty lean and clean and when I read my performance vs others with other games, seems to be on par. Most games there isn't complaints of long saves or loads, sometimes though. So when you get more posts about load/save speed, probably game related. You say you can transition in 2-3 seconds max, that is a save and a load, yes that is very quick and I don't think you'd hear a word if that was happening for almost everyone, or even double that. The complaint part that pushes me towards software is "it gets slowers are you get deeper in the game" and they found 1 bug already that if you used X that caused a problem. So perhaps you haven't used X yet. History: DA:O had bad load times, people complained, someone threw down "your pc sucks dude" card. DA:2 comes out, fixed, because Bioware addressed loading in DA:2, it was on their end.
  5. Um... what loading times? Loading screen comes up then almost immedately disappears in 2-3 seconds max. My comptuer is only midrange, I suspect you have a crapload of programs autostarting and even a virus.. or just a slow computer. I wont insult you by telling you to get a new computer... im sure you spend what you feel is acceptable... but you may want to look at whats running in the background how much memory is free for the game... and try a third party(not windows) disk defragmenter which can greatly speed up loading... While virus scanners that scan on hd access(each time the game loads a file) can vastly slow things down.
  6. Might doesnt make sense, its also not used in the actual game in a magic sense.. always physical... This could be considered a bug when it comes to magic users with high might for spell power getting physical options in scripted events... Wizards spell power only on par with druids(at best), yet druids have far more health start with double the deflection modifier. Wizards also have to stuff around with spell books and limited spells that get increased by buying spells from other gilmores... One could also make the argument its a bug... that it was NOT intended by the developers for the Wizard to be a second class spell caster that is pretty much worse in every way then the rest and which costs MONEY when the other casters do not. Further asking the developers to actually look into it and see if maybe it needs fixing is not whining... Its like asking a mechanic who you paid to fix your car... and who didnt do it properly to actually do the job you paid them to do... is whining. If one does not give feed back, Obsidion cant look into it... decide if its working as intended or not and if not, fix it. So, if you buy a book and don't like how the plot develops or how it is narrated to you, do you feel justified to go to the publisher or author website and make comments like "I didn't like this and that, will you change that in the second edition to satisfy my tastes"? Obviously not. Obviously if the book is missing ten pages in the middle, you complain rightfully, since that's something not working as intended, a bug. Fun is not measurable, not a feature. People don't pay to have fun, they pay to have access to a product that maybe will give them fun, maybe not, and that's how they should think about it.
  7. Roll a druid... druid spells are on par with Wizard or actually better, you get all of them and can pick or choose per encounter... also starting stats Druid Endurance 36+12level Health 4*Endurance Deflection 20 Accuracy 20 At level one with 10 con 144 health, 36 endurance. Wizard Endurance 30+10level Health 3*endurance Deflection 10 Accuracy 20 At level one with 10 con 90 health, 30 endurance. Fact is no real reason except for abusing Blights to take a Wizard over a druid.... druid+10 defelection+50% health all spells dont need to pay to learn them or only have 4 active at a time per spell level... Obsidion screwed wizards over... not to mention that for much of the game the DRUID has better damage spells that DONT harm friendlies. I think people will find Minor blights proccing again on its own blasts will be fixed. Lets not forget we get Gilmores that do nothing... you cant enchant them... say make them add +accuracy or damage to spells... or add an extra spell slot or anything awesome like you can with normal weapons and equipment.
  8. Wrong, in the actual game MIGHT is always considered physical strength. Thats the problem, if you are going to ignore how it actually functions dont get involed in a discussion. Every damage scales with Might. That is how the mechanic is designed. It allows for, for example, caster who is not able to do damage but is able to crowd control plus something else, like be mobile. The system in place has law, order and purpose. It just goes against prejudices that, for example, Might is by the laws of nature physical strength and even contributes to appearance. No, Might allows for damage. Dexterity is not for defense but for speed, etc. It does not make sense, it does not make sense! Indeed, apparently to some it does not.
  9. Bothers me less, you can just claim that the stronger a person is the more powder then can stick in the gun because they can better handle the kick. Thats the thing... many many things a person can explain away if they want... come up with some logcial reason they can swallow... but might working for both physical/magic is not with how its implemented.
  10. What is it with people on these forums always assuming D&D... I dont have a problem with SATS NOT being D&D like, I want them CONSISTANT. MIGHT as its implemented is HORRIBLE and makes NO SENSE, it is neither consistant logcially or in the game world. Obsidion could have tried to make it consistant... by making backlore that magic takes a physical toll on the body, and so magic users are often far fitter and stronger then even warriors to master such energies.... but it does not... and it sounds kind of stupid... Yet that is what the might stat has created in POE. Magic users that wish to cast powerful spells are hulking musclemen that can snap you like a friggin twig with their bare hands. This is the actual implementaion of might in POE. The problem with many games after the 90s was they didnt provide a consistant world... and favoured action over story... This is what I mean by OLD style experience it has nothing to do with D&D, infact most D&D games were RPG light action dungeon crawlers not true RPG's in the sense they provided a deep and intensive story. The attribute system in POE was not thought out properly, infact I dare say in an attempt to distance themselves from D&D they messed crap up. POE is "old style" story telling... the Baulders gates games were not great because they were based on D&D system they were great because of the story they told... the D&D system was however consistant in the game world. Might is not consistant, it is jarring when you try to RP a mage... try to emerge yourself in the story only to have a scripted event where your mage does some superman physical feat... and you laugh at the stupidity of it... you realize why that is never, ever going to happen again, right? WoTC is the one who screwed the pooch on this... ages ago. it's time for an enitrely new fantasy battle system, and I'm actually hoping this game bridges that gap... eventually. it's about halfway there I think. next generation game will probably see something new and solid.
  11. Obsidion dropped the ball on MIGHT... totally screwed the pooch.... I didnt play Beta despite having access because I wanted a complete old style experience... I never liked the might idea... but I assumed the game would base might on Physcial/Magic depdent on char... but it doesnt... Really wishing I had played beta so I could have kicked up a stink...
  12. You are entirely missing the point... Some of us like logically consistant universe to immerse oursleves into, and Pillars due to silly decision that makes no sense subtracts from that.
  13. scripted interactions in game based on might do not make any distinction between a caster/melee. Lets take playable races. Orlan are the smallest and weakest race in game, they are also the weakest spell casters. Aumaua are the strongest and largest race in game, they are also the STRONGEST spell casters. Spell ability is directly linked in Pillars of Eternity due to mechanics... Mage needs to pump IRON if they want to cast hard hitting spells.
  14. Game Disagrees... A Player mage for exmaple is likely to have max might, and be stronger then most melee chars you come across in the game.. capable of completing might based feats of strength interactions when those MELEE chars cant. Im going to take the fact you couldnt wrap your mind around this as proof of my point that its silly. In the Pillars of Eternity world... a Mage that casts strong spells is also physically strong, this is exactly how the game sees it for example in the starting dungeons... a mage can push down the wall other chars need to use a chisel and hammer to destroy.
  15. Nothing to do with DND. Its the fact we are asked to suspend disbelief on something so totaly moronic that the average person cant. In Pillars of Eternity when Little timmy says "daddy I want to be a Wizard when I grow up" Little Timmy gets told to start bench pressing and execising for 10 hours a day if he wants his fan of flames spell for example to do anything more then light a candle. The game does NOT devide MIGHT interactions between "spell" and "physical" meaning that often times the mage/druid often is the best choice when epic feat of physical strength needs doing... You REALLY dont have any problem with this mechanic? PS-The DEVS themselves refer Pillars of Eternity system to DND during development... Go tell them off.
  16. How to kill the bears in the cave with a level 2 wizard. Stealth... cast slick infront of bears, cast Fan of Flames Twice. May take a few times... since you know.... AOE attack by the Wizard makes an accuracy check and Wizards accuracy sucks. Unless you are elf... then all good... Honestly I have to say the STAT system in the game is retarded. MIGHT effecting spells is just wrong... and how its put forward in game is physical might... In Pillars of Eternity Wizards can armwrestle most warriors and win... Case in point is level 1 Wizard pushing down a wall because he is muscles MacGee. The GAME itself repeatedly refers to situations that MIGHT is muscle based and so its actually Wizards time to step up to the plate when you need might... its a horrible mechanic that completely breaks immersion. Of all the things... that alone should never had stayed to release. So many ways to do it that didnt totally screw Role playing... its actually my biggest annoyance with the game. If they wanted to do it right they would have seperated damage increase... Might=physical damage by Physical acts. Resolve=Physical damage by force of will(Paladin/Priest abilities as example) Intelligence=Magical damage/healing. Perception=Increased Duration/AOE for spells/abilities. RP Perception is important for any class that deals with the arcane it directly effects how effective a spell will be, while two Wizards could both command the same raw power, the perceptive Wizard can sense and hence direct arcane energies more effectively increasing the duration and area of effect.
  17. Rangers dont need much to fix them.. the problem is they dont feel like masters of range... the rogue does... How to fix Rangers? My idea Default passive ability Measured Placement Affinity and experiance with ranged weapons gives Rangers an almost supernatural ability to get the best out of a ranged weapon, and to do so from what appear to be the worst possible s h o t s. PS-why is the forums censoring the word S h o t s. Effect When a ranged weapon rolls lowest possible damage it automaticly becomes a Max roll for the ranger. Effects? Pistol 22-30 Every other class has a 1/9 chance of rolling 30 damage. Ranger has a 2/9 chance of rolling 30 damage.
  18. I find the lack of slings in most fantasy destressing, and the fact when included they are often pathetic underpowered things. This thread will most likely fade into obscurity yet some may find the information interesting if for no other reason that they thought the sling was a toy(like I did, I used to assume the sling was a toy and had little combat value.) Facts about Slings(and other related weapons) Power A Sling is a length of string with a pouch in the middle and as such is a simple leaver, yet such leavers are the most efficent human powered projectile weapons, has more power then any bow, and more power then most crossbows.(assuming one doesnt goto extremes and start slinging 2kilo glands... watching them hit stuff can be fun but.. ) While a sling stone contains more energy them most other single man projectile weapons before gunpowder, it was there momentum that was important. Unlike other projectile weapons they didnt need to penetrate armor to kill, they could crush bone and damage internal organs without penetrating armor due to percussive effects. However roman medical text for example specificly stated the slings effectiveness agasint armor even when arrows had little effect, and explained how to extract sling glands from soldiers. Range Slingers outranged bows(when using lead glands) untill the longbow, many accounts of classical battles survive and place the slingers behind the archers, and yet the slingers still openend fire first before the enemy was in range of the archers. Slingers from historal accounts have between 300-400m+ range. Accuracy The slings accuracy/range is such, that they outranged the effective range of smooth bore gunpowder weapons as Europeans found out in the Asia and Spanish in South Americas. Now people maybe wondering why slings were replaced by bows if it was such a great weapon. It had disadvantages. 1.IT couldnt be used in thick scrub or very high grass. 2.Slingers had to stand meters apart from each other resulting in far less dense fire then archers. 3.The level of skill to operate slings at a level where they performed better then other projectile weapons required training from birth. To see a sling in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEuVnZq2BMA&feature=relmfu If you want more information... or to learn how to make your own. http://slinging.org/ PS-If you dont understand the point of the post.. I WANT SLINGS in Peoject Eternity, and considering how simple the model is.. it couldnt be all that much work.
