Based on Krezzie's link the situation appears to be mostly an attempt to deal with youth crime more than anything. Mostly by trying to keep kids in school and out of trouble. As I understand it, Britain has had a problem with youth crime for quite a few years now and they appear to be getting somewhat desperate to try and fix the problem.

I would say more A Clockwork Orange than 1984

  5. If you have a 10 luck, just take the Sniper perk. Once you have that, you'll never need to carry anything bigger than the 10mm smg.
  6. Because it looks like piss, and its such a cheapshot to pull graphicswise. Either you go full cartoony like TF2 or even toon/cellshading, or you keep it regular. You dont take a regular game and slap on some cheap outlines because someone in the design meeting is a complete loon. Using linework rather than value to show form change is pretty common in graphic design. I think they are just trying to highlight the cartoon aspects of the game. It doesn't bother me much either way. Certainly the game looks fine with the outlining. It would probably look fine without it as well.
  7. What's wrong with outlining things?
  8. It's a lot like Cybermage, which was a hugely underrated shooter/rpg-esque game many years ago. Only thing I am really not seeing in Borderlands atm is a single player narrative, other than a go there/find that thing. WHich may be enough, even if that is all there is. I like the art style.
  9. I know that song. SOmetimes I sing it in the bathroom
  10. I saw Quarantine. The US remake of the Spanish orginal REC. Quarantine was decent enough. Started off pretty well, but the second half was filmed in very dark spaces and combined with the handheld camera made it hard to tell what was happening sometimes. The single camera POV causes its usual lapses in credibility (if everyone was dying and blod was flying would you keep filming etc). But overall a solid little horror movie, though certainly not overly remarkable. 7/10. Major spoiler: Which is always refreshing in an AMerican movie due to the usual expectation for some sort of "happy" ending no matter how horrible the circumnstances. Which isn't always going to be the case, of course.
  11. Ugh, I hate celery. Celery seems too bland to inspire hate. Except for those annoying little strings that get caught in your teeth, I suppose.
  12. When I hold this thread to my ear I can hear the ocean.
  13. I wish all inventories were this awesome.
  14. WHich is cool. Some of my favorite games fall into this category, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, The Witcher, Diablo. But they all, except Diablo, have a fairly strong core narrative. And the only game I've ever played that does the Diablo-style of gameplay well is Diablo. SO I'm curious if Borderlands is bringing more to the table than just a Diablo rip-off style gameplay.
  15. I'm still not clear on the rpg part of it. Is it an rpg like Diablo? Where once you get enough XP from kiling things you get a level up and can add points to a stat or an ability tree? Or are there real skills like lockpicking and speech? I'm assuming that it is the former, since that appears to be all that is required to assign the designation rpg to a game these days, but it would be much better if it was the latter. Wikipedia says the game has 160 quests? WIth that number I am assuming the bulk of them are pretty randomized and generic fetch/kill/deliver quests. WHich can be abbreviated for convenience sake as F/K/D quests.
  16. I don't know how Borderlands looked before, but right now it looks much better than Fallout 3, that's for sure. WHich is the last new game I played, so the comparison.
  17. I don't know how accurate the wikpedia entry is, but the games seems interesting although still somewhat vague. edit: Thanks, Purkake
  18. You would be guessing wrong then.
  19. Anybody know what song that is playing in the demo? It's a got a good feel which helps the demo a lot. There seems to be a sense of humor as well.
  20. It is quite the resource hog, but it makes stuff soo much prettier: While it's true that a pic like that makes AA seem necessary, I find that when I am constantly moving around in a 3d gameworld, the jaggies tend to be a lot less noticeable than when laid out in a frozen screenshot. I can see why people would turn on AA to take a nice screenie, but when actually playing, I find the trade off in performance not worth the visual enhancements. Also I dislike the subtle blurriness that AA causes, like my monitor screen has a thin film of petroleum jelly on it or something.
  21. I believe it is, stylizing can really make stuff look awesome. (it also says gameplay trailer...) The guns are supposed to be made from a bunch of different looking parts, so you have like ten different barrels for a shogun, ten different stocks etc. It's a bit like Diablo with a bunch of random stuff that has varying stats. If that is the way the actual game will look, it is pretty good. I didn't see anything that would lead me to believe it'd much of an crpg. I saw INterstate 76 crossed with a multiplsyer focused shooter. Or, as you said, Diablo. With guns.
  22. Is that in-game footage? The dancing robot was cute though. I don't know if a game can actually contain 87 bazillion guns. I don't think bazillion is even a real word.
  23. Help me, Obi-Wan JoshEnobi. You're my only hope.
  24. A quiet thread is a lonely thread.
