Honestlty, I'm not really sure what Grommy is talking about. But simply put, speaking only for myself, if one game developer has fewer resources than another, I'm more thn willing to cut them a break on some aspects of the game. I still expect it to be a game that I enjoy, but if the presentation isn't up to the standards of a major studio that's fine. I don't expect it to be; I would still buy it if its good.

I think we took different meanings from Alan's question. For my part, if I was trying to raise money for something and some unemployed guy gave $10 and some billionaire gave $10,000, I wouldn't curse or belittle the unemployed guy for not giving $10,000. Sure from a strictly economic point of view the $10,000 is more useful and in that sense absolute, but the expectaction of what they can potentially give is relative.

It seemed to me that id always basically ignored the post DUken Nuke 'em 3d and later post Half Life approach to shooters. id just seemd to go on their merry way making exaactly the same game over and over again without even begining to acknowledge how much the shooter had evolved. Perhaps they've begun to push their game making skills as well as their programming skils. The best games made with the various iterations of the doom/quake engines were always made by other companies.

Seriously? In terms of the amount of money that might be able to donate/contribute?
-
MAybe its just a difference in expectation?

I seemed to remember a pretty mediocre at best response on this forum to it. Not "worst game ever" or anything, but not very positive either. id seems to be one of thos game developers that has everything they touch turn to gold at least until people actually play it.

Wait, wasn't Doom 3 an uninspired snore-fest?
-
id starting pimping stories in their games with QUake 2 and they have never delivered. I remain skeptical. I loved Doom and Doom 2 but the entire Quake series was boring as hell. Maybe this will be better. Have they hired any actual game designers this time around? You know to give their awesome graphic engine some actual gameplay.

I agree completely. Sadly, I think its going to get more more popular among publishers and developers since it's such a good deal for them. It's a crappy deal for gamers though.

I should point out that I don't suport whaling in any form. We don't need whale oil to light our lamps anymore; time to move on. The reason the minke whale is still around in decent numbers is because it was once considered too small to be worth whaling so it was ignored while larger whales were hunted right into near exctinction. Now that the larger whales are nearly gone, the Minke whale is considered a worthwhile target. I belive Norway also whales, and I don't think they should either. The only whaling I'm not against is the small scale hunts done by indigenous people using traditional methods.

I find it somewhat disturbing how those are constantly referred to as non-toxic. Not that anyone ever bothers to define what non-toxic means. I don't think they would qualify as harmless. Not according to the CDC anyway:

Speaking only about some of Bethesda's recent DLC, I think they are a bit pricey for the amount of content that you get. Both Operation: Anchorage and The PItt took me only an hour or two, which I think is too short and with too little new content for $10. Better to pay 2x that amount for a legit xpack. The best deal for DLC is just to wait for the gold edition of the game which wil coem with all the dlc for less than the price of the stand alone games origianl release. There it's a good deal. But how many people have the patience to wait?

Yeah. I mean, it looks a lot more like a comic book than FO3 did. but for me that's a plus. I love comic book-style graphic art. Like you said, variety is a good thing. Enough with the brown green muted earthtones that pretty much is everywhere now.

Man, compared to Fallout 3's wasteland, this game looks fab. Their's actually some bright primary colors and stuff.

No no, really, it's one of the best comedies on TV atm. Like a couple weeks ago when the Sea Shepherds attempted to use their super-expensive prop-fouler on one of the Japanese harpoon boats and they missed with it (they ALWAYS miss with the prop fouler), but when they went around to get it back so they could try again, they found the Japense were already fishing it out of the ocean and then took off with it, leaving the Sea Shepherds all crying and sad that their prop fouler was stolen. ANd then they became afraid that the Japense were going to use the prop fouler on them and started driving their boat around in circles as fast as they could so they wouldn't get prop fouled. Hmm...unintentional comedy? Maybe I'll give it a shot. I think cable has some on-demand episodes. Tragic comedy. Last season they tried to launch one of their zodiacs and it flipped over dumping some of their crew in the antarctic water. Their incompetence is both amusing and horrifying at the same time.

No the Japenese whalers have that. LRAD. Used for crowd control and what not. Supposedly they used it on the Sea Shepherds in one episde though. It was hard to tell if they really did though or if the Sea SHephers were making the claim. I meant the Sea Sheperds should use an underwater version to drive away the whales. What you're referring to is used in open air and the Japanese are using it to drive the Sea Shepherds away. Yeah, I know. I was just making run of the Sea Shepherds and their claims. I don't think anyone has actually officially identified the LRAD "devices" on the Japanse ships yet. Other than the Sea Shepherds. I haven;t seen the last couple episodes though. The sounds the "LRAD" made on the one episode it was "used" sounded completely dubbed in.

He was, frankly, totaly off - not a bit of the reveiw is that true (id est the "dog boss" he goes on about is not a boss at all). The only bad bits are the quick-time-events and you can get a third-party tool that disables those for you (it makes them automatic). OK. One can never tell with Yahtzee how much he is exaggerting as part of his shctick and how much is accurate. From his reviews of the games I've played he is usually reasonably accurate as to how he relates game events. But not always. WHat about the part he talks about where the emplacement is killing his team and a message pops up telling him to run the one teammate behind the emplacement and drop grenades on it. Was that event/solution as arbitrary and out of the blue as he made it appear in the review?

I'm just kidding around. The game looks pretty cool to me at this point. I'm just really curious as to what the single player content consists of, if anything.

I'm sold! Its like someone just wrote the best story ever, isn't it.

Yahtzee really said some bad things about it though. If he is even half right the game can't be that much fun.

AT the moment, that is the big question since as far as I know there has been no info released on what is in the game besides blowing away cartoon monsters and collecting randomized weapon parts. Just some vague references to having to go somewhere to find something. Are there towns? stores? Dialogue? Decisons that affect the world? etc and so forth. My guess is no, to all of the above, but still what IS in the game if none of that is? But the art style loosk very cool to me. So that's a plus. And I am always looking for a good free-roaming shooter.

The Sea Shepards come off as a bunch of buffoons in the show. Its amazing none of them have died yet. And they are probably doing more damage to the environment then they are preventing, trucking around in that old wreck of a boat and tossing their "non-toxic" chemicals into the ocean.
