  1. what's that?
  2. Never heard of it. Is it worth buying?
  3. That is a very limited view. The Antagonist is whatever opposes the Protagonist and his or her goals. One can be an Antagonist within a story without having malice. Quite. However, you'll notice that I have specifically used the word villain (repeatedly) and not antagonist. I too read Jack London books growing up, so the nature as antagonist thing did not slip by me unnoticed.
  4. I don't know if I would refer to the emviornment as a villain. I was referring more to someone acting out of purposeful malice. WHich it is refreshing to not have at the moment. There appear to be opposing agendas at work however among the major players.
  5. I dunno. I thought the grenade tossing in CLear Sky was awesome. They were fairly easy to avoid as long as you were saying attention and didnt try to dig yourself in somewhere.
  6. Hmm. I must have missed the villianry. Who?
  7. Yep, still pretty decemt. Some of the acting is a little...weak during the distraught emotional scenes, but not hideously so. This show has a pretty big cast. It's been a bit difficult to get a sense of each character since they have so little screen time, with eahc of them having to share it with everyone else. I like the fact that at the moment there is no real "villian". It will be interesting to see if one emerges.
  8. Grenades were awesome in TftD. For the frist part of the game they were really the only useful weapon. Out of a 12 man team, 6 would be dedicated grenadiers. They would run around with a live grenade in each hand and a bunch more in their packs and belts. Needless to say their life expectancy was short and they were kept well away from each other and the main team.
  9. Stalker:SOC didn't have NPC greneade throwing becasue there wasn't time to implement it properly. CLear Sky had npc grenade throwing. It was the subject of a good deal of whining by gamers because they said it made the game too hard. Which it didn't.
  10. Interesting I would have said the animations in STALKER are quite good and while the shooter AI as usual is never "good" it's certainly better than FO3. ALso the weapon dynamics and combat dynamics are far better. If FO3 was as good a shooter as STALKER: SOC, it would have been a fabulous game.
  11. Last time I played it still had a problem with textures and the then in use Nvidia drivers that caused the game to crash without warning. Turning down the textures to medium solved the problem for me.
  12. Is this a replay or the first time?
  13. Thanks, Matthew. I still have my preorder in and look forward to playing the game when it is released.
  14. While I certainly agree that using VATS less (or not at all preferably) greatly improves the FO3 experience, it's still not a very good shooter.
  15. In a game as stuffed to the gills with stupid ideas as FO3 is, I find it hard to single out the idea of radio stations for specific criticism.
  16. It's not "dumbing down", Matthew. It's either "streamlining" or "making more accessible". You of all people should know better.
  17. And? I don't get the problem. When someone somewhere says drama you immediately categorize it as boring or something? BSG was billed as a "drama" from the very start by its creators. Drama first, sf action third, fourth or fifth. Or something like that. I'm paraphrasing. There's bad drama and good drama of course, just like in all things. At the moment,. after one two-hour episode, SG:U seems all right, drama or not.
  18. Last game I preordered was Alpha Protocol. Ooops. I hope preorders don't have a 1 year expiration date.
  19. We all remember how the original game box shipped with one empty cd slot. Coincidence?
  20. I've heard various devs remark on how licensing a firearm's name can be a costly proposition. Especially when you figure it's usually just not one firearm. You do all, or you do none. Firearm companies no doubt recognize that the name of their firearms is worth some money and aren't about to let them go free for someone else to make money off of. Some games still do it. IIRC, for example Farcry 2 used authentic names for some of its weapons.
  21. Well, some science fiction is referred to as Space Opera for a reason. But I never felt that BSG crossed the line into Soap Opera. Soaps are a very specific drama format with a very specific set of conventions. BSG had a tendency to downplay pew-pew laser battles, but never went down the soap opera route. The BSG miniseries, had a ton of very riveting drama between all its characters, but relatively speaking, not so much straight action. I thought that was one of the things that made it work so well. ST:TNG was also heavy on the drama and light on the pew-pew action, especially in its best 3rd, 4th, 5th season run where the series peaked.
  22. I think using live animals as ornaments is pretty weird. Personally.
  23. My biggest problem with the Pitt was that there was so little to it. What was there was good enough, but too much of the gameplay content was dependent on hunting down the ingots. If you just get the required ten, the whole dlc is over pretty fast. Overall, I felt that the bulk of the DLC was too shooter-based, but maybe that's a limitation of the dlc format.
  24. I would prefer it personally if FO:NV went back to the more simplified ES approach of simply having a repair item (such as a toolkit) that you carried around in inventory and clicked on it from time to time to fix your gear. If you wanted to make repair more of a sacrifice, the toolkits could just be really expensive and rare, so you better only use them when you need cause they will eventually run out. But also, as entrerix said: there are more important things that I would rather see upgraded/changed, But, maybe if NV keeps the same system, just slow item degradation down somewhat, just so I don't have to spend quite so much time tracking down spare gear.
