I didn't say it was bad, just ugly. The screenies that y'all been posting speak for themselves. ^_^

Well at least it looks better than something! Might have been more of a plus if that something wasn't three years old though. "

Its unfortuneate that a lot of the dsicplines were nerfed against bosses. Kind of make one feel like an idiot for dumping a ton of points into something and then finding out its worthless in the biggest fights. Celerity would have been less overpowered if so many other disclipnes weren't so useless when you really needed them

Its a shame really. I was expecting G3 to have shot at being the best crpg in a long while. Ah well, it just goes to show expectations are worthless. Every game is brilliant right up until the day it is actually released. :/

Compared to what? Betrayal at Krondor? Blade of Destiny? Lands of Lore 2?

Put me in the Never Register category. Except occaisonally when I am forced to do so in order to download patches and what not.

I'm buying it. Quite looking forward to it actually. I didn't buy any of the dl mods cause I knew that they'd be released in some sort of retail bundle eventually or a goty edition. So I get all those plus the new faction. Nifty!

What would be funny would be if a game was released and 2 days later a bunch of people who didn't like the game wouldn't show up and post a lot of utterly empty whinings about why the game is horrible and company X is a bunch of bastards for runining it. *yawns*

Heh, and I thought D2 was much more fun than D1. Improved everything really, and it hadn't gotten old to me. I still play every once in a great while. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, I kind of agree with that. D2 really was better, technically, at everything pretty much. And longer, too. If I had played D2 first I'm sure I would have enjoyed it a lot more. But I played D1 for SO many hours and D2 was more a refinement of D1 than anything else, that the gameplay just left me cold. I was surprised, too, because at the time I was really looking forward to D2's release. But the gameplay of Diablo is so "light" that even the refinement of D2 couldn't change the incredible feeling of "been there, done that". I made it through the first act and partway in to the second then just stopped. Never even touched the MP. In a lot of ways its similar to my take on Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, except the Fallout has a lot more depth so even though FO2 was really only a small refinement of FO1, it still had a lot of play value even though I had played FO1 to death. I just can't see making a D3 unless there is real change to the core gameplay. WHich is unlikely, probably.

What? We have to pay for the right to have bugs in our games now? Jeez. Bastards.

D1 was fun. D2 was so much the same that it wasn't fun. For me. Victim of overkill. Making a third version of the same game seems ludicrous.

Rumour: Diablo 3 is total crap.

Happily, its a computer game not a replacement heart. So having to wait a few days to get it shouldn't really be too much of a bother.

NWN2: Major disappointment - Character creation
Slowtrain replied to Riftworm's topic in Computer and Console
Oh stop it. drama! whether 3d graphics are expensive and resource consuming or not is irrelevant. gfx standards for major gaming releases are what they are. If Microprose were to publish XCOM today it would be laughed out of the building as a tremendous joke even though it would still be the same great game. Time was, a developer could make a crpg that was uglier than the current gfx standard, because it was just accepted that price had to be paid for a crpg dev cycle. That's not true anymore. Note here that I am talking about commercial game releases from major developers and publishers. -

Ill answer anyway because my obsession with female hair forces me to! " Female humanoids must have atleast shoulderlength hair. The shorter it is, the less attractive they become until its by the ears at which time my brain dont even register them as female. Its kind of odd. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually proper female hair length is about half an inch or a tad more than one cm. -
It wants me to register. bleah. ANyway, I am looking forward to seeing what Crysis has to offer when it ships. If crytek can take Far Cry and just make it a bit more interesting with a little character development and some inventory stuff, I would probably really enjoy it. I actually almost finished Far Cry which rarely happens to me with FPS games. So that's a big plus right there.

Bingo! The days of a crpg being cut slack because it may be butt-ugly but that's OK because its a CRPG! are over. We interact with our world visually and with todays 3d graphics capabilties there's no excuses for not making something that looks good. Are good-looking pcs the most important thing to a crpg. No, probably not. Are they AN important thing? Absolutely. For all except the hard-core role-players among us, of course, whose greatness I can only envy. -
Not from a major publisher. Howewer, if web distribtuion really becomes wide-spread, then smaller dev companies have a chance of realising niche product like that.

X2, Jag 2, Oblivion, SS2 A space sim, a squad tactics game, a FPS fantasy rpg and a FPS action game. A nice mix. On a side note, I threw out my two copies of Baldur's Gate this morning along with ToTSC. Dinally decided I wouldn't ever be playing those again. Still holding onto BG2 though. Cause you never know!

Are they going to fix that stunlock problem? Though not technically a bug, it sounds like it makes combat really unfun.

I'll wait a couple weeks to see how buggy it is. If it seems OK, I'm buying it. This is my kind of game! All stealth and slaughter and character leveling with no talk! *kicks orcs off a high ledge* awesome!

I totally agree with your belief in supporting devs whose work you have really enjoyed. I'm the same way, as much as I can be within my income limits. However, I personally think that simply supporting them blindly is sending the wrong message. That message being: You can do whatever you want and I'll still buy your game. A better approach is to simply wait a couple weeks for a game to be released, then do your research. It won't be too hard at that point to get a feel for the state of the game. Then you can buy 2 copis if you want! Now, that's supporting a game developer. I think I don't mean to be so harsh by calling gamers stupid, but its the only word I can really think of. In the sense that they are only bringing all the problems on themselves by not waiting TWO WEEKS. Two weeks. How hard is to wait two weeks. The game will still be there, you know. hmmm. Maybe all gamers some from ADD or something.

So basically, the upshot is that they released a game that wasn't even close to finished and are now putting in another few months of dev work with the gamer footing the bill AND playing beta tester. Nice. And of course there's no assurance that the game will EVER really get to a playable state. But lots of people have already spent their money. Even better. I will never understand why people either a) preorder games or b) buy a game before its bug state is known. I guess gamers have a lot of disposable income and don't mind wasting their money. But as they say there's a sucker born every minute.... Good luck on the game industry ever changing its ways and releasing games that are bugfree BEFORE they hit the shelves if gamers keep being so stupid.

I start myself with $950,000 on expert. :">
