The only thing I'm really waiting for in a gaming sense is an xpack for Oblivion. Can't believe they won't do at least one.

DMoMM has its NA release date on October 24th. Looks like it might be interesting SP but the MP appears to be a real generic addon. Somewhere I read 12 hours of gameplay, which would seem a bit light. Not going to take that as gospel though. I will be waiting for reviews before I buy it.

Weird. I used to play at 1024 as well and on mine it would only take up about the leftmost 2/3's of the screen. The inventory boxes were a lot smaller too. I had it installed on my laptop just a few days ago, but it looked horrible (deep shadows looked like a green bedspread! ) do I installed it. I need to install it to my desktop and play a game! -

Well, you should definitely pick up SS2. Though more fps than crpg, I think you would enjoy it. ALso it has no werewolfs. -

Ah. Never got very far in that one. I threw it away a long time ago. I think it went out in the same bin as Dungeon Siege. Here's hoping NWN2 does not fall prey to the same sad fate! -

I think the horror is dismal. A lot more could have been done with it. The structure is also very predictable. Fight for a bit, horrific interlude, fight for a bit, horrific interlude etc and so forth. The fighting and the horror could have been much more integrated. Despite that it managed to keep me interested almost until the end. Haven't quite finished it yet though. -

My inventory bar doesn't stretch all the way across the screen like that. Is this a different version or are youy playing at a low resolution. FYI you can change the hud colors. I think that defaukt color scheme is hideous. I usually go with starlight or nigh vision. -

Fear is a fine game. For an FPS. -
I get random lockups too playing under XP. SOmetimes I can play for a long time without one, sometimes I'll get three or four over the span of ten minutes. As long as I prevent the game from trying to utilize hyperthreading, for the most part it's great.

pseudo-french anyway. I was playing through SAve the Lady and I was amazed by how massive the level was. I had forgotten the impressive size of many of the DX levels.

Well, I raised my Modify skill to level 2 and then promptly proceeded to break my only laser pistol attempting the first level modification. :"> This left me with the wrench as my only weapon for a while until I was able to get Energy to level 4 and my agility to 3 to I could use the laser rapier I found in the security office by the engine nacelles. Since I had gone that far on the energy tree I decided to go all the way. I am currently at Level 5 energy. I finally found an unbroken laser pistol and I found a repair unit and used it on my broken one, so now I have 2 lasers! WHich is nice. I was able to mod the second one without breaking it, once I found the level 1 Modify software. I'm just entering Operations and have almost enough cyber-modules to go to level 6 energy, but I've only found one EMP rifle and it was broken. ANd without any repair skill or a repair unit, that makes it useless to me. So I will probably hold off on the level 6 increase until I find a working one. I'll need to raise my maintenance skill anyway in the meantim.

Did they get the same artists to do the avatar in all three games? Or do they just have a fetish for overly large male upper-bodies?

Happy Birthday! A forum without birthday threads is like a day without sunshine. Of course, three million birthday threads a year would be a lot of spam...

Well the energy weapons are really good against bots and cyborgs, and, as you pointed out cameras and turrets, not so good against other things. The decision to spend level 6 points on the emp rifle is a tough call since it is useless against anything that can't be knocked out by an em pulse. But the huge advantage is of course, free and infinite ammo! WHich is a huge plus for the non-hacker, who will find less ammo than the hacker and also have to fight more. AT the momemt I am undecided if I will take energy weapons any higher than level three. I will probably go for a backup in standard weapons. I should have a ton of unusued ammo by mid-game. I may however go with the exotic weapons instead, since that tree tends to be less useful against anything made of metal and deadly against everything else. A sort of counter-point to the energy weapons tree. Standard weapons are pretty powerful with the variety of ammo available. A non-hacker just can't be totally dependt on them on they wil run out of ammo almost immediately.

awesome. More converts to cult of SS2. Soon your individual will and guiding purpose will cease to be. My marine is about to enter the cargo bays and has yet to spend a point on hacking. Level 3 in Energy weapons and Maintenance. Level 1 in research. Level 3 in strength. If you want to use energy weapons early you really need to make sure you take the enery weapon posting since it starts you with a laser pistol.

I only have one Splinter Cell game and its still sitting on the to be played shelf. You just pushed it a little bit more to the front of the line.

I agree. The AI in DX was the biggest negative. Detection Response and Investigation AI has always been a problem in almost every game I can remember playing. Whether its Deus Ex. Thief, NOLF, SS2, BL just to name a few. In most cases it is out and out horrible and terribly unrealistic. Usually the AI detects you, searches for X number of seconds, then forgets it ever saw you. Bleah. Way to simplistic to be interesting. The question is how does a developer make that kind of AI "realistic" yet still fun. If it was truly realistic the AI would call a huge number of reinforcements in, includings dogs, helicopters, satellites, or whatever was appropriate given the mission environment and setting, search the place from top to bottom, find you, then kill you. Probably not the most conducive AI to a fun playing experience. I would assume there is something fun in between the 2 extremes, though I have not seen it yet.

Just installed DX GOTY edition. w00t! Not going to bother with the mods though. I think I am going to play JC as a Master Pistol and Demo James Bondian-type. Too bad the PS20 sucks so much ass. Crossbow + 10mm + Stealth rocks though! Offhand does anyone know if theres a builtin key for screenies. Don't feel like bothering with fraps atm.

Well, I don't know if I have high hopes, but I'll definitely give him the benefit of the doubt here. WHen you are the lead designer on a game like SS2, you've defintely earned some credibility and the right to talk up your games as being the next great thing. That's versus say being the lead designer on a game like DX:IW.
