  1. But... but... it's about the story. hmmm. I thought it was about the bisexual foursomes. *reviews thread*
  2. Modders certainly make the best of the constraints they have placed upon them, but its mostly because they're working within constraints. Alot of what Modders do, are basically HACKS, developers don't like hacks, they introduce an element of risk. Yep. Certainly modders can operate without worrying so much about breaking things or creating unintended resylts, since mods always come with an implicit "use at your own risk" attachment. Plus modders can work on only what they want to work on and ignore any content they arern't interested in. ANd they can operate very specifically in one area without worrying about the larger picture of the game. SO, I'm definitely not saying that modders are superior to developers when it comes to creating content, but rather that they can work in a way that allows more freedom to be creative and push the tools further than was neccessarily intended. Which is why I replied to Monte's post by saying I don't really think mods and dlc are in direct competition. They are two pretty different things, although they could probably both be classed as "additional content" or at least "altered content".
  3. Modders always seem to be a lot more creative with the tools then the developers though, so I don't know if it's really a direct either/or competition. Often it seems the most popular mods, or at least key ideas from them, are incorporated into the next version of the game. Certainly this ahs been the case with Bethesda and its ES/Fallout rpgs.
  4. Actually, in this day and age of monumentally inflated scores, it really isn't. Swedish PC gamer may not be getting a Christmas card from Bioware this year.
  5. If you don't own this already, you're not a gamer.
  6. Do game trailers for major game releases ever not look good? They spend a lot of money to make sure trailers look good, otherwise no point in releasing said trailer, right? So it's really not an honest look at the game to begin with.
  7. Maybe just wait until after the game is released to decide one way or the other?
  8. DRM's true purpose is to manage the rights to the products. If the particular scheme employed by a specific product is offensive to me for some reason, which it often is, I don't buy the product and do something else with my free time.
  9. You can't just take **** that doesn't belong to you against the owner's wishes. All this justification is just a load of crap.
  10. Gamer Logic 101: If the trailer looks good then the game must be good. +1 preorder
  11. wheeeeee! A countdown timer! Dunno if I can stand all the excitement and anticipation.
  12. meh. I turned in my hardcore gamer's card some time ago. I find this forum much more interesting than playing any of the actual games. lol.
  13. SUre, but that's not a commentary of gamers. Its a commentary on the games. People enjoy revisiting the things they enjoy: they read their fave books over and over, watch their fave movies multiple times, collect their fave tv shows on dvd etc. If people aren't replaying games or even finishing them once, its because the games aren't rewarding players for spending their time doign so. Not really a hardcore gamer though.
  14. Out of curiosity, what prompted you to buy it in the first place? Did you find it at a really good price that you justcouldn't pass up at the time?
  15. That's probably because most games suck and don't even reward the expenditure of time required for a single playthrough, let alone multiple playthroughs. If games were BETTER and rewarded multiple playthroughs, then people would play them multiple times. THe truth is, developers and especially publishers don't want you to play the same game over and over again, they want to get you in the doors tio buy the game, but them they want you to hurry up and finish that game and buy a new one. One of the advantages of DLC is that is does give a publisher incentive to invest in and develop a single game over time, thus potentially leading to a more complex and richer gamepay experience for the consumer. That's an ideal state and unlikely to happen, but you never know.
  16. Yep. Exactly. And the movie between seasons 4 and 5 really put an end to the mythology since Carter seemed unable to take it any further while keeping it interesting. The mythology became increasing less compelling and more meandering. In a sense, it all happened again with the new BSG. ROn Moore and the writers went through the whole "They have a plan" thing and it turned out no one had any clue what the hell was going on. Too bad, really.
  17. I always thought Duchovny did a good job as well for the most part. His enthusiasm for things seemed to wane after season 4 or so, probably due to his issues with Chris Carter, but I thought he was pretty good for the first four seasons.
  18. I used to love the X FIles when they were first on. Seasons 1-4 were some of the best TV ever, imo. Season 5 and later went downhill pretty fast, LAst couple seasons were pretty bad at times. Haven't watched them in a long time, though I do have seasons 1-4 on dvd, so I don't know how well they've aged.
  19. I have just quickly tried Morrowind, but just by looking at those pictures I'm tempted to say it has about four times the diversity in landscape when compared to Oblivion. Looks much more interesting. Morrowind's environmental graphics were always very strong. Just make sure you dl a better bodies and better faces mod of some sort. Cause, as usual, Bethie can't make people.
  20. That sounds great. Explosives are my favorite aprt of the whole Fallout 3 + combat mechanics universe.
  21. Yes, another update is coming. Gstaff announced it in the Beth forum.
  22. Do you know that there are definite plans for another patch? Or are you just being hopeful? I had assumed they were done with patching and were just doing dlc now.
  23. It appears to be a big enough problem that more people are pirating pc games than buying them. IN that situaition no one can reasonably blame publishers for implementing whatever DRM scheme they think might work. I don't really like DRM and I may choose not to buy a game that has a DRM scheme I find particularly annoying, but I no longer find myself able to condemn publishers for using even tightly restricting DRM. They need to do whatever they need to do.
  24. If a collector's edition came with a big manual filled with all sorts of game information as its bonus item, I'd actually consider spending the extra money. Better than a "making of" dvd, a bonus dagger, a bumper sticker, and a pair of plastic coins.
  25. Honestly though, at this point with all the hype and the trailers and what not, can the game not be a hit? Even if it's terrible it will still probably move a couple million copies, minimum.
