  1. I've been watching Warriors on the Hsitory channel, which is kinda the same thing. ALthough it looks at Warrior Cultures as a whole rather than individual fighting 1 on 1. So far Warriors has looked at Vikings, The Maya, English knights ,Samurai, German Barbarians. I think Terry Schappert is a great host. The show is pretty interesting, though as usual with these things there is a little too much LARPING and renactments for my tastes. I remember seeing an ad for the show you are talkign about, but at the time I thought it seemed a little too goofy to bother with. History Channel and Discovery Channel are pretty much the only things I watch on TV Edit: The show you are talking about is on SPIKE TV right? WHich is one of the reasons I dismissed the show as most likely being extremely silly.
  2. Nothing more exciting than watching a bald guy get his head squirted.
  3. Probably, that's why the unabridged audiobooks were so handy. That was a pretty clever way to get around the insane word count. I might try that nyself.
  4. lol 12 Books? Crazy. at, what, 700 pages a book that is 12*700 = 8400 pages. Seriously that has to be one of the longest continuous written narratives in the entire history of books.
  5. I expect reviewers to bring more tools and knowledge to the table than non reviewers. They are not playing the game to enjoy it any more than the QA people are playing the game to enjoy it. They have a job to do. If the happen to enjoy it, that's great. But in that instance enjoyment is not the priority.
  6. The series started off well. The Eye of the World was quite good and The Great Hunt was pretty decent. AT some point though the forward progress seemed to stop. SOmewher around Book 4 or 5 I suddenly realized this was all a huge waste of my time. And that was that. How many books did it finish at? 9?
  7. It's for the good. I really disliked A GAme of Thrones. I'd rather play Bioshock. But not Oblivion.
  8. I'm totally aware of the "just because you don't like a game doesn't mean it's bad" thing. SOmetimes its true. But there are also times, when you don't like a game and it is in fact a bad game. Francescos and OOO and the like are (were) so popular because they took a pretty broken game and made it somewhat playable. Anyway, as I said, I've had enough of sandbox games for the moment and hope Obsidian does not go that route.
  9. No. But I've never watched an awards show of any sort in my life nor will I ever. I don't get why anyone would care who wins what anyway.
  10. Feel free to provide some sort of proof, unless you're making this **** up on the spot. Regardless of what can be proved or not, the ludicrous high scores that Beth's 2 most recent games have gotten are pretty absurd. I do question how Oblivion especially rates so many 10s and 9+s. Its such a broken, tedious, buggy game. Frankly, at this point I have had my fill of sandbox games. The onyl one to do it well recently that I have played was STALKER: SOC. Far Cry 2 did it OK. In some areas at least. Personally, I'd rather see Obsidian design games along the System SHock/Deus Ex paradigm: linear story but big non-linear levels to play about it in. I'm hoping AP does this.
  11. It sounds like there is only one enemy (the Big Sister) in the entire game?
  12. I guess Syriana is no longer relevant.
  13. Technically I suppose it is a bikini of boob jiggling +5. Double damage to undead.
  14. "All its faults are balanced with its other faults."
  15. The answer is: Bethesda! Of course. They are the Viking flagship of crpgs
  16. See? Just like Bioware. lol. Point taken.
  17. Starbucks is all right. But they went down hill a great deal when they introduced the pushbutton espresso machines. Autogrinding and then pushing a button will never make great espresso. It will never even make a good one. But its probably cheaper than training baristas how to do it right. edit: I am a coffee elitist.
  18. wtf is the point of playing a combat game where you are not penalized for dying?
  19. I hope Obsidian is paying attention and is smart enough to put some cleavage in Alpha Protocol. Probably an extra hundrd thousand potential sales RIGHT THERE. LCD, ftw.
  20. I was going to say that, but then my head exploded before I could get it all out. So I didn't.
  21. Hey, any landing you cna walk way from is a good landing.
  22. That's an interesting point. I had never thought of it that way. Maybe making it more of a special use ability that can be built up the course of gameplay and making it perhaps more powerful and interesting, but only able to be used for very short periods of time at widely spaced intervals would make it work better.
  23. Its cool that you guys all like it. For me though, the very static aspect of VATS, just doesn't fit well with a first person action game. I want to be running and shooting and hiding, not standing around paused in some frozen slice of time. The concept of the targeting worked better in FAllout 1 and 2 because it fits better with the more static, deliberate gameplay of the overhead TB combat that those games had. But I give Bethesda credit for giving gamers the option of using it or not. That was cool of them to do, and I wish more games would offer that sort of choice.
  24. Bloatflies. lol. I forgot about those things. They beg the question: why are they even in the game? I do think the Bethesda devs did a pretty good job giving the robots some personality. The Protectron is pathetically weak but funny, and the Mister Gutsy and Robobrains are still fun to fight at level 12. I've only fought a couple sntry bots so I don't have any real opinon on them yet.
  25. A day without a flying off super mutant head is like a day without sunshine! But yeah, I agree. Plus most of the enemies aren't very interesting either. Molerats, scorpions, dogs are all completely uninspired. I recognize the molerats and scorpions are legacy material, but since FO3 occurs 4 thousand miles away from Fallout 1 and 2, the devs were under no obligation to keep them. ANd if they had to keep them, the devs could have spiced those critters up a bit. ANd there's just way too many supermutants in the game. You can't spit without hitting one. And they are too weak and pathetic with the excepetion of the behemoths. ANd calling the same basic enemy type supermutant, supermutant brute and supermutant master does not qualify as three different enemies. The behemoths should have been the lowest level supermutant and even they should have been pretty rare. The behemoths at least, like the Yao Guai, have some personality.
