Sure, buy it on disc in the store. I did. Two are already out; the others are coming this summer.

' Its a Bethesda game: ugly is the norm.

It would be cool if more companies did that. Take one of their games that is a year or two old, patch it up, remove the drm, maybe toss in a few extras, and rerelease it at a slightly lower price point than a new game. It gets the game back in the public eye in a nice new packahe and is bound to move a few copies.

Yeah, it probably won't be quite as goofy. But any comparisons to NOLF are a Good Thing! And NOLF2 wasn't as odd as NOLF1, iirc. Both were great, though. ALthough I think NOLF was somewhat more awesome. ANd I think its fine they went with a non-Syriana feel to the gameplay. Syriana was an awesome movie, but I like all the fun stuff I've seen from the game so far. Enough to make me go to Gamestop and put my money down on a reservation already! I'd also love to see a game play out as somber and brutal as Syriana, but I imagine it would be a tough sell. No dual wielding SMGS and a LOT of talking. -

I don't think AP is going to have nearly the Syriana-esque feel we were initially told it would way back when. I'm picturing more like clowns with fangs and handguns. Maybe some ninjas. -
*waits for Josh, somebody, anybody, to say something, anything, about FO:NV, so we can actually talk about it*

I'm thinking something in the vein of NOLF/NOLF2, perhaps a little more sexist and serious. "serious espionage rpg" went out the window along with the Syriana references about what 2 years ago? -
Stop posting pictures of my house.

You *bought* the Enhanced Edition? Why? I like the game a lot; I hadn't bought any games for a while; there were no games in the immediate future that I was going to buy, so I bought it. If other games at the time had been competing for my money, then I most likely would not have purchased the EE.

I'm only using three mods. None of which make any changes to tthe gameplay. 1) a slower leveling mod: reduced XP for combat and a much greater increase in XP needed as you gain levels. I don't know how anyone can play FO3 withotu some sort of slow leveling mod. 2) a mod that chnages my character size based on STR and END. Characters with high STR and END values are bigger than everyone else and vice versa. I love it. 3) A mod that makes the pipboy slightly brighter and more powerful which allows me to actually see in some of the darker areas now. I looked through a lot of mods and didn't find much that was worth installing. A lot of the combat mods are unneccessary if you play in RT. The combat is already hard enough.

I'm hoping for some Leatherface and Blair WItch action myself.

It was fine for me. Less buggy by far than FO3.

I already bought both the regular and the EE. Not buying a third. It does seem a bit like they are trying to make a living by repackaging the same game over and over again. :/ SOmething new plz.

The FAQ knows all Operation and ANchorage and The Pitt are also available on disc for retail purchase. The others will be as well.

This is totally true, but this setting is the first one that really interests me. So even though it's not "Fallouty", I'm still looking forward to this more than any other FO3 related bit, including the original FO3 game. Really, I don't care if things are Fallout-y or not, as long as they are interesting.

AP Should be on G4 sometime today...
Slowtrain replied to Matthew Rorie's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Is this really true for everyone? Personally, I feel I get a very good impression of how most games handle by watching gameplay videos. Games are meant to be played, not watched. IF you're not actually playing the game, you not experiencing it the way it will be intended. Its easy to be hyper-critical in that instance, of things that you will never even notice once you start playing. Screenshots are especially bad for a game, because no one plays a game as a bunch of frozen moments. Most of the comments on this thread fall into that category, -
No, no, Daikatana just smelled like week-old socks. This smells far worse.

AP Should be on G4 sometime today...
Slowtrain replied to Matthew Rorie's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Man, you guys are harsh. I bet your girlfriends hate you. Anyway, it's important to remember that WATCHING someone else play (or even worse just looking at frozen screenies) is ALWAYS a very different feel than when you are actually in the driver's seat and playing the game. -
Hmm...I think if you don't look at it as an actual GI Joe movie, it might be decent. Like, ignore the comics or any source material, and just think that they looked at some plastic toys and roughly based a movie on them. Kind of like Transformers, I know a lot of folks who were ultra fans disliked it, but I thought it was a fun action movie. I've never really understood the argument of disregarding the source material when evaluating a movie. If the director/producer/screenwriter has choosen to use previously existing a source material, then that source material is part and parcel of the criticism. If the film wishes not to be criticized at least partially based on source material, then it should do something original instead. I'm not saying that a film should/should not be a slave to source material, only that it seems completely fair to use the source material as part of ones criticisms, either positive or negative toward a film.

While its true that Oblivion had the guild quests and fee form exploring as well, none f those were particularly compelling either. Explorng was the worst because there was nothing interesting to find. To give Bethie its due, they obviously realized the huge flaws in Oblivion and worked to address those flaws: Lockpicking was giving at least a skill check. Exploring was ramped up by adding a huge number of unique findable items from pipboys to schematics to unique weapons and armor. I have hope that Oblvion was really bethie's low point in game design. Onwards and upwards with ES5. (which I really hope takes place in the Argonian swamps, but I am betting will take place in the Sumerset Isles).

I was looking through a bunch of mods. First time I've really done so. I found some mods that sets the caravans to Essential but that's not really what I want to do. I would really just like something that allows me to give npcs stuff they will use. Like combat armor, stimpacks, chems and minguns and flamers. Many of the npcs in the game are woefully unequipped to stay alive as the gameworld levels around them

The ES mod community did a fab job with both Morrowind and Oblivion. They took what shipped as a woeful broken game (both really though MW less so)and made it playable. Bethesda should be paying THEM, really. I haven't really done much with FO3 mods since the game is much better and doesn't really need them (at least for me) plus the fact the current 1.5 FO3 patch apparently makes many mods unusable, but I can only assume that the FO3 mod community has also done good work there as well.
-
It has a lot of broken pieces though. For example, the lockpick skill: My hulking 30 int/30 agi Nord with a warrior concentration and lockpicking in a minor slot can pick all the same locks almost just as well as my 60 int /60 agi Wood Elf with a stealth concentration and lockpicking in a major slot. So two completetly different, almost totally opposite, character builds have exatcly the same lockpicking ability in the gameworld. In other words: the lockpicking skill matters diddly/squat. IF so, why is it even in the game? If it isn't supposed to matter than just leave it out. But it is in the game; it doesn't matter, and it is therefore broken.

WHat is that thing sticking off of your back? IS that the haft of a weapon? Damn thing must be three meters long if it is. Is it a lance?
