  1. Speaking only personally, I love Godzilla movies (the one sup through about 1975 anyway), but I don't really enjoy Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Godfather. SO I have no problem saying I enjoy Godzilla vs The Smog Monster more than any of the above, but I'm not sure I can say that any of the Godzilla movies I enjoy are better than those particular films. Certainly if I went to Rotten Tomatoes and made such a claim on their forums, I would be laughed off the board, and rightfully so, I think.
  2. SO you believe there is no valid criteria that can be used to judge the quality of a movie or game? SO nothing distinguishes the quality of an Uwe Boll film from the quality of a Stanley Kubrick film? Or of one Kubrick film from another Kubrick film? There is only opinion in a discussion on the relative merit of Bloodrayne vs A Clockwork Orange?
  3. I'm trying to minimize mod usage as much as possible and just use in-game systems. The absence of a "give" option for NPC interaction is a glaring oversight, imo.
  4. Is there anyway to give NPCS better gear? I'm trying to give the caravan guard betters armor, but I'm not having much luck. I tried to do a pickpocket and put some armor in rather than take something out, but they got all hostile and started shooting me. Which wasn't in the plan. ALso, if you give NPCS stimpacks will they use them?
  5. I think it is certainly valid to say: I enjoy Godzilla vs the Smog Monster more than Raging Bull. I do not think it is valid to say: Godzilla vs the Smog Monster is a better film than Raging Bull. The former is a matter of opinion without question. I'm not entirely sure the latter is.
  6. Following that logic then: If I think that GOdzilla Vs the Smog Monster is a better film than Raging Bull, nobody can tell me I'm wrong? Because it's all just a matter of opinion?
  7. Aren't they supposed to be professional? I would expect a professional in any trade to understand the nuances of working in their chosen field. I expect a professional reviewer to be completely aware of and correct for the dangers of erroneous first impressions based on limited playing time. edit: I should also point out that many of Oblvions huge flaws aren't hard to figure out. It was only hours after release that threads were up telling pople not to place most used skills in major slots because both the skill system and leveling speeds were broken.
  8. Yeah, maybe, but it's got ragdoll, so who cares. Ragdoll is the secret key. Neo-colonialsim is not the secret key.
  9. The amusing part is going to be when ES 5 starts to get hyped. Suddenlly all the game journo's are going to be talking about all the "flaws" in Oblivion, and how ES5 is going to fix all those flaws. OF course, none of them mentioned any of the flaws in their 10/10 reviews of Oblivion initially. DId these flaws suddenly appear out of nowehere? hmm? lol. Professional reviewers shoudl be more than average gamers. Just like a professional carpenter should be more than just some dude with a hammer.
  10. Kind of a 2 for 1 sorta deal, I guess. Like a peanut butter cup. Except with teeth and horns.
  11. The whole thing was a cakewalk. my pc only died once and I wasn't even trying to do anything other than rush through the whole thing as fast possible. ANd the one death was from standing to close to one of the guns when I blew it up. It helped that my companion couldn't die. WHen I got low on health I just hid and let him do the fighting until I could get to a health dispenser. I did 90% of the combat with the trench knife. Frankly, I'm glad it was a cakewalk because if it hadn't been I just would have quit. It was a remarkably unejoyable experience. If kids today think O:A is a quality FPS experience, I don't know what to say.
  12. FYI, there is a glitch that allows you to return from the simulation and bring the Winterized PA and I think a new guass rifle back into the real world. Both have ridiculously high points for their repair (I believe the PA has over 1 million) so they never need repair and both work fine in the rest of the game. The glitch involves putting a body on the teleporter and loading it wioth weapons, or something like that. I already got a PA and Gauss RIfle from the Vault. Just a TRIFLE overpowered for a level 8 char. lol. My small guns skill isn't good enoygh to make the Gauss RIfle very useful anyway. The best thing though was the gatling lasers I got from the dead Outcasts. Those things are just smoking. After all the outcasts were dead I cleaned the place out. It takes a LONG time to walk to Megaton carrying over 1000 pounds of gear. lol
  13. I reserved my copy at the store yesterday. Not something I usually do, but this one could be a classic. Maybe. Go go October 2009.
  14. If you tilt your head up and hold your mouth open, can you drink rain to regain health?
  15. I totally agree that any movie, regardless of how iconic, after it hits a certain age, becomes a candidate for a remake. But I don't think, personally, that either Alien or Predator is there yet. Both of them are completely contemporary still. But, yeah, Hollywood wasn't built on art; it was built on money, so what can I expect.
  16. No. Someone at bethesda had a brainfart and just "I know, the FPS combat in our game is the weakest part of it... so lets make an expansion that focuses solely on that!" Its like a bad FPS. FROM 20 YEARS AGO. meh. I rushed through it and it was over quickly, happily. I'm hoping The Pitt will be better. It looks better, anyway.
  17. I finished Operation :anchorage and the outcats let me open the vault. I did and then without warning they started shooting me in the back. FOr some reason. Intentional? DId I do something wrong? Take something I wasn't supposed to? I have no idea. Anyway, regardless, shooting a wasteland legend in the back, even by surprise, even with gatling lasers,is not a good idea.
  18. I'm playing Operation:anchorage. I don't get it. Does anybody anywhere think this is good?
  19. Apparently BOTH Alien and Predator are being remade??? Alien remake is still a rumor, I guess. But still... wtf, as they say.
  20. Ragdoll is the secret key.
  21. It's like a little bit of my childhood tossed into the rubbish bin.
  22. "a fistful of poo on a tray." lol. Awesome.
  23. The faction stuff was OK in small amounts, but it really made the game less fun as it was the focus of the game. The single-player story and adventuring seemed to get pushed aside in favor of all the faction stuff. And the faction stuff just wasn't robust enohgh to make a truly interesting game. It's too bad, too, because there were so many great improvements. STALKER 3 sounds like it might be grabbing the best of both SOC and CS and mushing them together, which would be great. Bugwise, I had no problems with CS which really surprised me. I was expecting a disaster, but it was less crashprone and weirdly buggy than say FO3. edit: I've started noticing this weird bug in FO3 where cars suddenly spin around or cartwheel about for no discernible reason. I mean I assume its a bug. :/ Maybe you got one of the new perks where merely looking at stuff makes it blow up? Its more like some sort of telekinesis thing, I think. Think Force Push.
