Tonight is a good night. Ottawa beats Toronto 4-3 in overtime, 2 goals by Heatley including the winner. Montreal beats Carolina 3-2 in overtime, 2 goals by Koivu including the winner. Tomorrow I get to trash talk the Leafs fan in my Management class.
  2. The only combats that were really difficult was the marathon at the beginning of the game when I was still getting used to the controls and a couple of the later fights where the enemy has those stupid retribution shield things. You'll be pounding away on them and before you notice that they've turned the ability on you're dead.

I'm watching Ottawa @ Toronto. I was about to say congrats to Sundin on tying the Leafs scoring record, by Antropov was given the goal. EDIT: Heatley has been locked up in Ottawa until 2015. Signed a front loaded 6 year deal that averages out to 7.5 million per year.
  4. They are doing that too, but why sell one of them when you can sell multiple?
  5. It's working for me.
  6. How did I know that it was Bok that posted this?
  7. My highest scoring game so far. I've still yet to record a hat trick with anyone. Koivu has several 2 goal games and Gelinas almost had a hat trick during this game, but I was a little slow on the release and he hit the post. EDIT: And in my next game I get to play them again. :D
  8. Yes, young padawan, you have learned. I'm putting off playing game seven of the western conference final against the Blackhawks. The winner of the next game goes on to play Philly ( ) in the Cup final. I just played a game against Pittsburgh that I lost 5-4 in overtime. Toskala absolutely sucked in that game. He let in three first period short handed goals. The 1st was a Crosby breakaway. He was already half way down the ice when Pittsburgh picked up the pick in their end (after my shot rebounded off Sabourin's head) and passed it to him. He made a decent deke and put it in the short side. I scored a couple minutes later to tie it up and off the ensuing face off the center picked up the puck, skated around Smolinski and put it in high stick side from beyond the blue line. Since I was down by two I was still on the penalty kill when we faced off at center. Roberts won the draw and lobbed the puck at the net. For some stupid reason Toskala was lying down on the ground and the puck went in right over him. Toskala is now riding the bench for the next few games until he learns how to stop pucks again.
  9. I'm a little more than half way through my NHL 08 season with the Habs. Turning auto aim for shots on seems almost like cheating to me. I turned it on for a few games. I then went on a seven game winning streak where I scored no fewer than 4 goals in every game. Koivu is now only 8 goals behind the league leaders for the Rocket Richard trophy, 12 points behind the leader for the Art Ross. Markov is in first for the Norris followed by Souray at 6th and Hamrlik at 12th.. Toskala is in 5th for the Jennings and Higgins is in 6th for the Calder. I went from 12th place in the East to 5th. My winning streak included this awesome game. Koivu had 2 goals, 1 assist and Kovalev had 2 goals. Am I hitting enough now?
  10. Do you have Dark Avatar as well? They also have a second expansion "Twilight of the Arnor" coming next month that is supposed to be really good. No unfortunately not - but I'm planning on buying them next time I'm going to invest in games. Is Dark Avatar good? Just about everything I've heard has been good, but I don't know anyone that actually has it.

They are trying to increase the exposure of the NHL in Europe. What better way than having the season opener in Europe? Carey Price was kept in Montreal as the backup for Huet. Grabovski and Chipchura were also kept with the big club. It'll be interesting to see just how well they do this year with all the young guns.

  13. OK, you automatically know a game is crap when it allows you to build a team that forces a player of Yashin's calibre to the fourth line. I didn't say anything about him being forced to be on the fourth line. He's technically my highest rated forward. He's on the fourth line mainly because I didn't really want to break up the chemistry I had going with the first three lines.

I'll be out all day tomorrow so I'm unfortunately going to miss the season opener. It will be nice to have watch on Saturday evenings again. It's been the most boring night of the week ever since the last season ended. Can't say I've got anything to really look at as most of the Canadian teams didn't do too much in the off season. It'll be interesting to see how Iron Mike works out (or doesn't) with the Flames and Leafs fans better stop whining about Raycroft this year. I mean, it's not like he tied the franchise goalie wins record or anything...
  15. I'm currently 18-15-6 right now and sitting in 10th place in the east. That last screenshot broke a three game losing streak. Lost three straight games by a score of 2-1. The shootouts aren't so bad anymore now that I figured out how to score on them.
  16. On the hitting, will this do? Hurray for shorthanded goals scored in the final 20 seconds! The Leafs came to me with a trade. Wanted Gorges and Halak for McCabe and Devereux (I know that's spelled wrong...). I ended up trading Cullimore, Murray and Halak for Toskala. I then went out and picked up Fischer and Yashin as free agents. Yashin replaced Begin on my fourth line and Fischer joined Hamrlik on my second defense pairing. I still hate those 40 foot wrist shot goals that everyone seems to be able to score except me.
  17. Yup. Skill stick works on the PC. And what would hitting people do? As Kor said, I'm playing the Habs. Unless you are charging the other guy, it's like running into a brick wall. How is it? The same as last year with roster updates? I wouldn't know. The last version I played was nearly a decade ago. Kor and Hurlshot might have a better idea.
  18. Yeah, those were pretty horrible hit totals. Normally, I'm between 25-30. I'm not playing the 360 version. I'm playing on PC, but I'm using my Logitech gamepad. I honestly don't know how someone would play this on a keyboard. Yes I do still have Markov. I've only made a few substitutions. Halak has been sent down to the minors in favour of my created goalie. I traded Aebischer and someone else to Los Angeles for Ladislav Nagy and I picked up Martin Gelinas as a free agent. That's about it I believe. Markov is staying right where he is on my top line as my highest scoring defenceman, points wise at least. Souray has more goals, but Markov has more points. It's not like I'm trying to make runs at people with Koivu or Kovalev, although to be honest, my biggest hit came from Koivu, but he probably should have been called for charging on that play.
  19. I played three games this morning with the skill stick. I lost 2-1 to the Flyers (see my last point in my previous post ). What threw me off in that game was the camera angle. It was an away game so the 1st and 3rd periods I was attacking down. Couldn't manage to get much pressure on them in those periods. My only goal in that game though was put in by a Flyers defenceman. I managed to beat the Panthers 4-2 and I can't remember who the other game was against, but I won that 3-1. I still need more practice deking the goalie when not coming straight at him. And Mkreku: Screw you! Stupid Sundin and his impossible-to-steal-the-puck-without-taking-a-penalty-ness! In conclusion: This IS NOT what is supposed to happen: This IS what is supposed to happen:
  20. I picked up a copy of NHL 08 for myself yesterday. The last NHL game that I played was NHL 99 I think. I'd have to go see which save files I have on my N64 controller pack. :D Initial reactions are slightly mixed. One the one hand, it's nice to be playing an NHL game again, on the other, there are a lot of little things that bothered me about the game. The skill stick is the first thing that bothered me. I played 5 games using the skill stick and managed to just barely win three of them and got blown out in the other two. I think it's really just a matter of practice. I ended up playing the next 25 games using the classic control scheme instead. Also, I hate the body check being mapped to the right stick in the hybrid controls. I think I've managed to hit someone once with that. The second thing that bugged me is that the opposing goalie can stop a puck without actually being in the net, while my own goalie couldn't keep a beachball out of my own net. I saw Ray Emery make spectacular looking saves in a 5-4 win over me, or they would have been spectacular if he hadn't been five feet away with his feet up in the air when my shot bounced off some sort of invisible wall in front of his net. At the other end of the ice, Huet is letting in 50 foot shots with no traffic a minimum of twice a game. In the above Sens game, he let in goals on the Sens first three shots. The first one is fine as he was completely deked out by Alfredsson, but the next two were slapshots from the blueline with no traffic. Not cool! When you outshoot the opposing team 60-15, spend five times as much time on the attack and still lose the game 5-4, something is wrong. I was lucky I only lost 5-4. I somehow managed to squeak in a 4th goal with 7 seconds left on the clock. The last thing that's bugging me, no one ever loses the puck when the get body checked. Some skaters are worse for this than others (I'm looking at you Sundin!), but unless you charge someone, or get a nice hip check in to send them flying, very rarely have I been able to strip them of the puck. It's damn annoying when you have one guy streak into your zone, shrug off 5 body checks and still score on you. Why is there no button mapping for slashing? My team has currently gone 11-12-0-5 and is 11th in the conference. I've won one of six shootouts I've been in so far. I decided that was enough, so I spent an hour last night in the shootout minigame just practicing dekes with the skill stick. I currently have about a 60% success rate when coming straight in, but I still need to work on coming in off the wing. That's all for now, but I'm sure I'll come up with more stuff later. At least I ended on a high note when I quit last night. I chased Hasek from the net with 4 first period goals on my way to a 6-1 victory. :D
  21. Dethklok - Hatredcopter It amuses me. I fly a gigantic monster I am captain evil stomper I get to wear big black helmet I pilot the Hatredcopter
  22. I'm all for robbing banks, but not for a 360. You don't rob banks for $300-$400 unless you have drug problems. Maybe the 360 is just the item on his list that is most applicable to this thread. Who knows what else he might buy.
  23. Well I spent this morning getting my G2 license. Now I can drive the car without having to have a fully licensed driver with me.
  24. You were only outnumbered 3-1 and you still lost?
