I dont really think there was much doubt it was going ot be June. It is the last month in Q2. That aside I was a little upset they didnt mention moon elf as a subrace. But otherwise excellent interview.

The Kommander. Edit: See here - http://www.nwn2news.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=227

All he has said in public is the old pathfinding routines were gutted and hes been tasked with writing the new code. All we know that I recall.
-
Well, not really. There is significant core codebase, which stays behind the scenes and is pretty stable (base for ruleset implementation, networking, data organization). I'd say, 'it is based around the old engine'. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To be accurate one should say its the core engine heavily modified with certain aspects re-written from scratch. You are correct the game mechanics and certain other aspects hav ebeen modified. However ignorning the parts that have been rewritten is deceving and not fully accurate to say they are 'modified' IMO.
-
How has the pathfinding been rewritten? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am not sure I understand the question or what isnt clear. The pathfinding AI has been gutted and been re-written from line 1 by the kommander. I am not sure how else to be clear on that. heh.

Am I holding a gun to your head to use the console? With that said, after you have played though it 2 or 3 times normally sometimes you just want to have fun. Hence what I did.
-
Rendering/graphics engine is re-written from scratch. Pathfinding is re-written from scratch Toolset re-written from scratch To say its the 'same engine just modified' would be deceiving.

So $50. x 100k = 5million. Seems like a lot but minus the retail stores cut, minus a few million from development costs, then the developers cut... I dont think the publisher made much to brag about. And thats assuming all 100k units were at full price which we all know isnt the case. Here in Boston about a month after release it dropped to $39. from $49.
-
If it was developed in some guys attic with a couple friends sure. 13th is fantastic to recoup your costs. However when you talk a couple million investment to develop a AAA game like this you need to be in the top 10 for several weeks just to break even. Or at worst top 20 for longer. It debuted at 13th the first week and just went downhill from there. In the end it lost money I believe.

Acually that how I took down the sheriff. Blood strike (while I have blood shield) and a couple elder blood packs later... poof... Its very effective.

"vampire.exe -console" is your friend
-
 Coolness. I like to bathe in blood when I wake up. Reminds me of Countess Bathory. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> she was just... ermm.. 'misunderstood'...
-
A shame really, Bloodlines was an excellent game, excluding some of the bugs of course. It would have been a decent seller if they beta tested it better than what they did. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I followed bloodlines sales, it never went higher then 13th on the top PC games sales list.

Never tried the axe myself... I am very disappointed they.. speaking of axe.. axed the MP from the game. I really would have liked to set up a server and play with friends and perhaps start a gaming session. Hopfully whom ever gives the vampire crpg another go will do so.
-
I sadly wouldnt hold your breath. With the so-so sales of both (reasons which are another topic) I do not think another developer would jump to make another one anytime soon. Perhaps a few years to let the memories fade and if a company such as Obsidian or other publisher who isnt afraid to dive in mature content try again. I do think you CAN have a successful vampire rpg game. Its just the right elements in the last 2 attempts have not been in place.
-
Never played IWD2 but did play the first and enjoyed it greatly. Personally I thought the story was much better then other 'CRPGs' such as classic nwn. At least it griped me and I liked the way the story blended into the canon lore. The details like that really catch my eye.

Guys kinda missing my point. I am not saying they wont EVER beable to pull off a great AAA game. I am sure this game in of itself if they can stay afloat after it will certainly help them move forward, and perhaps do so in the future. However as of now I see nothing on their resume or in the couple witcher previews I read that make me think 'wow this is going to be up there or even close with fallout or bg2' I may VERY well be wrong and eat crow. OTOH I may be back here in 12 months smugly saying 'I told you so' But either way currently I can only go with what my gut tells me and thats what it is. Cant help if it does not agree with your opinions of their ability. As for bioware poor stories recently, I should have said core game stories, not expansions. V is correct the expansion stories got better the more they released in fairness to them. I have no need to 'put down' the witcher under false pretense. I simply am not impressed with it thus far. I dont know why I have to be oozing with some massive bias or agenda because I am not giggling like a schoolgirl over this. heh. There are many games past and present I dont like, I suppose my like of the direction nwn2 is going has something to do with that as well?
-
I am very much looking forward to this. I really enjoyed HOMM series and I am certainly looking to a 3D engine of this game. The screenshots very much so pique my interest. If anyone gets on board with the beta pls do post with your impressions.

Hey, honestly with ones self is important. I respect that you are coming to terms with it. However on a (somewhat) serious note and getting the thread back on track, I realize, D did infact pose a reasonable inquiry. Why dont I feel witcher will not do well and why do I have this perceived bias with nwn2. Well its quite simple, I do not know of any AAA titles this dev house has done. In fact I never heard of them before. Certainly they might have done something, but if this indeed is there first title I personally think its more then they can chew. Their lack of experience will sink the title to little more then average, at best IMO. I think people are focusing on the eye candy too much for this title. As we all know eye candy <> game play. With the background of those involved with nwn2 I am quite confidant nwn2 has a much larger chance of being successful then the witcher. Thus my reasons for my less then optimistic view of the finial witcher product. I certainly dont wish them ill will, but I frankly dont think they have the skill or backgroud to deliver anything more then a midrange game.

Forgive me for not trolling back 6+ months of posts to find the exact occurance of events. Obviouslly time has blurred it in my memory to a degree. Did you see me dispute his correction? Didnt think so. How you perceived the witcher dev posts is up for interputation. I apparently see it in a different light then you. And he is going out of his way is my point, a simple link back to the main thread would have sufficed. He seemed to go out of his way to throw it in my face is the point I was trying to make which seemed to go over your head sadly. It really moot at this point and ancient history. However if he does have a issue with me i'd like to address it either here or PM. And I stand by that.
-
I'd be happy to get involved with some civ4 MP... do keep me in mind
-
Beating me over the head with a long dead issue and spending all that time searching and pasting and such. Yea... theres certainly no deeper agenda on his part. It seems spiteful and as if hes going out of his way to do so. I'd simply like to know what the real reason is. If something that happened 6+ months ago is still eating away at him, then thats another larger issue on his part. However I do not think thats the case. If you do not agree then we shall agree not to.

What do I want? You're entitled to your opinion. In fact, I'd welcome a decent debate about why the Witcher will - or won't - be forgettable. I don't think it's perfect by any stretch. Just don't pretend the tech is old then complain about a rude dev who already corrected those same fallacies. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We can only strive to be as perfect as you then apparently. *shrugs* I dont know what your issue is with me but this certianly isnt it, so do you mind getting to the root of the matter rather then playing games with this which is really a non-issue and long since dead topic? Its apparent to me you are just beating me over the head with this as there is a deeper, real issue. So lets cut to it and have the testicular fortitude to addess it shall we?

The old WoD V:M ruleset was based in the shadowrun rpg rules. I hear they re-wrote the rules from the ground up for this game and thus the game mechanics are very different. I have not however played the new game just repeating what I have been told, so its possible I have been misinformed.
-
I think its obvious Dhruin has too much time on his hands... that aside, I never disputed WHAT he said if you read my post its HOW he said it that rubbed me the wrong way. And I goofed about the camera angles, and forgot a previous convo about it. I was referencing another convo when I typed that when some peep misinformed me. So Shoot me... Gezz going to beat me over the head with that until I die Dhruin? I erred my bad, what more do you want from me? With that said, camera angles aside, little about the witcher makes me think it will be anything more then a forgettable crpg. If thats me 'putting down' another game because I am following nwn2 then you need to read my posts more. I would suggest its because it simply does not do anything for me. period. If you read my site, or my posts here I speak highly of MANY other games. This one just does spark any interest in me, simple as that. As for bioware, I take issue with them as the behind the scenes favortisim that goes on as well as they have not put out anything of note for the PC in years. They are, IMO living on past glory and have yet to write a half decent story since BG2. Plus, Aside from Jay W. and a couple of others their pompus, collective smarky attitude anoys me. And dont get me started on how they give obsid little control on 'their' forums. And before the bio defenders jump down my throat, I am not holding a gun to your head to agree with me. My 2 copers
